Raven's walker in critical condition

Thoughts and prayers to this young man's family and the Ravens organization.

This was a young man, a football player, and an American, lost tragically. We should all feel a sense of remorse, regardless his decisions. Many a person has died due to bad decision making. That doesn't mean they weren't worthy of a full life.

Just a bad decision. He was young and had the $$$. I get it. Most of us were young and stupid in our lives. This dude did what so many strive to do and thats play ball professionally. Prayers for the fam and those affected by this incident. But at the same time be proud that this man made it to the NFL--let his hard work be recognized

This is why I've never owned a motorcycle. The damn things are dangerous.

What would have been a fender bender in a car becomes a fatal accident on a bike.

Chill Mitchell. Did everything right. Speed limit, dry night, helmet. Hit some loose gravel on a bend and the bike came out from under him. He slid off the road and into a tree, now he's paralyzed for life.

Accidents happen. Bob Smo drove his car down the street doing the speed limit. Had his seat belt on and a blind person ran a red light and crashed into Bob. Killed Bob instantly. Oh yeah. Bob had just had his car inspected and washed. You might think about not driving a car also if you do now. Those things kill. Period.

You want to run the numbers on how often that sort of thing happens to guys like Bob vs how often it happens to guys on bikes?

I figured not. Bikes are more dangerous. Period. That doesn't mean folks can't ride, it just means they're much more dangerous. Simple truth.

It has to start by fixing 2-parent households again.

I don't know what law or tax breaks or welfare changes we have to enact, but you can't make single family homes the predominant way to "get by" for inner city kids and predominantly African-American families. And for god's sake, we have to stop young women who already have 2-3 kids out of wedlock and can't support them from having MORE kids.

The breakdown of black marriages definitely has its roots from Johnson's War on Poverty and welfare state. There is no clearer correlation. But I somewhat agree you can't pull the rug out now 100% in one fell swoop. There has to be small steps to get black families back together. It's the only way to fix it.

Excellent analysis...

I'm thinking this thread may have to move to God and government - I've got some more to share on this angle.

I'm not disagreeing. Just stating you can die in a car just as fast as on a bike. The percentages may be higher on a bike but death is death.

Another thing, all those motorcyle accidents also include WALKERS death. Some riders are safer than others. Bob may be a worse car driver than I am bike rider........ KAPISH. Death is death, but unfortunately there is a less forgiving chance of stupidity on a bike vs a car.

Salute the nation

The problem with motorcycles is that you can be the safest guy in the world and some OTHER dumbass can utterly fail to see you and HE or SHE can take you out in the blink of an eye.

That's a major problem. You can do everything right, but you're STILL a little less visible and people STILL don't look for you very carefully. That's the ***** of it. And we're not even talking about what was going on in Baltimore. That was another thing altogether. I'm not going to make a statement one way or another about the whole "pack ride" thing. They were doing what they were doing. A young man died. It sucks *** for his friends and his family no matter how you look at it.
