Did anyone see the final play in the Bengals vs Ravens game? The outcome would have probably still been the same, as Andy Dalton would have had his Hail Mary pass batted down anyway, but the Raven's clearly found a loophole in the rulebook. You shouldn't be rewarded for intentionally committing a rules infraction, and that is exactly what the Ravens did. For those who didn't see it, there was 11 seconds left. They were punting the ball back to the Bengals. Instead of punting, they about five Ravens intentionally held their man, while the punter ran around in the end zone (untouched), until someone broke free, at which point he stepped out of the end zone for the safety. By that time, the game was over. Sounds like something Bellacheat would do.

It's not against the rules and it helped the win the game. Smart move by Harbaugh even if it was a little bush league.

He cries Like a little ***** when Pats exploited the rules on that eligible receiver call...

then pulls this. such a bush league play. I can't stand Harbaugh....I just wish one time....just one time...Steelers come out and stomp these ******** into the mud and bury em.

they're due, it's been a while.

The Ravens did this exact same <move< in the SB against the 49ers. Took 8 seconds of the 12 seconds left before conceding the safety. I don't know if it would have made a difference BUT at least one of those holds should have been considered a personal foul, IMO.
After looking at the rulebook, an extension of time should have been given to the Bungles based on a "Palpably unfair act" committed by the kicking team.

Section 8 Extension of a Period or a Half
BALL IN PLAY
Article 1If time expires at the end of any period while the ball is in play, the period continues until the down
ends.
PERIOD EXTENDED
Article 2 At the election of the opponent, a period may be extended for one untimed down, if any of the
following occurs during a down during which time in the period expires:
(a) If there is a foul by the defensive team that is accepted, the offensive team may choose to extend the
period by an untimed down after enforcement of the penalty. If the first or third period is not so
extended, any accepted penalty is enforced before the start of the succeeding period.
(b) If there is a foul by the offense, there shall be no extension of the period. If the foul occurs on the last
play of the half, a score by the offense is not counted. However, the period may be extended for an
untimed down, upon the request of the defense, if the offensive team’s foul is for:
(1) illegal touching of a kick;
Note: The period may also be extended for a “First Touching” violation.
(2) fair-catch interference;
(3) a palpably unfair act;
(4) a personal foul or unsportsmanlike conduct foul committed prior to an interception of a forward
pass or the recovery of a backward pass or fumble; or
(5) a foul by the kicking team prior to a player of the receiving team securing possession of the ball
during a down in which there is a safety kick, a scrimmage kick, or a free kick.
(c) If a double foul occurs during the last down of either half, the period shall be extended by an untimed
down.

I think the ref's blew it and Marvin was to dumb to realize what should have been an option. **** the ratbirds and the bungles.

Salute the nation

Yeah i would have gone with the unfair act rule or the other one that allows refs to counter unsportsmanlike play with broad responses

Would Hairball have been so smug had one of the Bengals gotten through and torn up his punters knees after he stepped out of the back of the end-zone?

That sort of **** should include 15 players on the field for the mass hold so there are 4 extras to go find Burfect and give him the business, then I have no problem with it.

Don't worry, coach cool shades isn't smart enough to come up with a play such as that.

Say what you want. It might have been bush league, but it helped them win and take over first place again. I think it was brilliant.

SORRY. Omar..... This isn't the respectable NFL of old. The likes of hoodie / the rog / Kraft / cheating / thugery / etc.etc. has turned it into what ever you can get away with nfl. Respect and class went out with spygate / deflate gate / br*dygate....... Some of the OLD SCHOOL teams will continue to exonerate what is right from wrong but overall look for houligan actions.

So what would be the remedy if The Bungles were to accept the penalty?

Would it be 4th down again and the Ravens punting again only further back or would it be Bungle ball?

I don't think anyone really knows

I was watching the game with a few Ravens fans. when I brought up the fact that that last play was textbook shady, my friends equated it to Ben faking the spike a few weeks ago

That's funny..

Ravens "Hold" for the win -- just like they did to win their last Super Bowl.

who the **** cares, the Bengals were never going to win that game, Andy Dalton is no Big Ben

The shield has been tarnished again

Wyche should have done that here:

1987: 49ers Defeat Bengals with Montana to Rice TD on Final Play

When San Francisco went nowhere in three plays and had to punt with less than a minute remaining, it appeared that Cincinnati’s 26-20 lead was safe. The Bengals ran the clock down to six seconds. With fourth down on their own 30 yard line, Coach Wyche elected to run the ball rather than punt or take a safety, figuring that keeping the ball on the ground would use up the remaining time. RB James Brooks began to run a sweep but was stopped immediately by 49ers DE Kevin Fagan for a five-yard loss.

The play took up just four seconds, giving San Francisco one shot with 0:02 remaining and the ball on the Bengals’ 25 yard line. Montana lobbed the ball into the end zone where Rice leaped high to make the catch for a touchdown. Wersching kicked the extra point and the 49ers came away with a stunning 27-26 win.

The game would have been over since time expired. Accepting the penalty is meaningless in that situation.

This is a reason why it is always smart to hold receivers at the end of a half if they are close to scoring a TD, since the outcome, even with the penalty, will usually result in a FG instead of a TD. That is because the infraction will eat time, and time is more precious than yardage against a waning clock.

Unless you're Coach Tomlin and go for it!
