I love Alex Koroza's football eye, and he does an excellent film breakdown of the big Jesse James 51yd catch, and how it was set up from earlier plays, out of the same personnel grouping, running outs the previous times:

I will say, Fichner is the smartest OC we've had to date. This offense is more diverse, utilizes more players, and builds on previous plays, better than any OC we've had. Moving forward, it's going to get tougher and tougher for defense to scheme against this guy, since we can just slide personnel, and adjust to the defenses.

This is getting to be like watching the Patriots, who set their game plan and personnel grouping to exploit the other team's defensive weaknesses, as opposed to the old status quo, of keep doing what you do well until the other team stops it.

I've really appreciated his game calling and game planning with Ben. RF really understands the flow of a game and understands the strengths and weaknesses of his personnel. He does a great job adjusting throughout the game.

Actually Mr. F. seems to make in-game adjustments that the "TODD" would never even consider due to "my way or the highway" attitude. RANDY seems to know the player's abilities and understands the set up of in game adjustments. BEN Roethlesberger seems to like the OC way better and is buying into the new system or has been all along. Even the players on the field seem to be more play oriented even when their number isn't called. I don't see nearly as much "play taking off" as when todd was here. I did see AB totally take a play off but also saw a sideline coach jump his **** a little to and hopefully is was about his taking the play off. DEFINITELY and upgrade at OC.

Salute the nation

That's what the OC's job is - it's not rocket science, it's the norm. We just had dunder heads at OC lately is why it seems special.

Todd tried to set up plays as he went, but unfortunately his version of doing this was setting up jet sweeps with bubble screens. When he get's his own way, it's way too much small ball and attempted misdirection, preferably with tiny players.

I think when he first started out he was still figuring out what he wanted to do out there. Adjusting etc.

That red zone production is showing that this guy is a better version of what the Steelers had as of late.

RF seems to have hit his stride the last few games. The calls make sense and the Offense is playing with amazing intensity.

Seems they feed a lot off of Conner too. I mean the guy is not only a great story, but he's quickly becoming a great player. Ben shows a tremendous amount of trust in him and that says a lot. The OL is just killing it lately too. Brandon Williams of the Rats is a mountain of a man and is usually the big reason we can't run on them, but they were absolutely handling him last game. This team right now is fun to watch. Hope the D starts getting some turnovers and more pass rush with 4 and they'll be a really difficult team to deal with.

So what NFL team are you OC for?

Alan Faneca told a similar story, they saw something in Seattle's defense leading up to Super Bowl 40, they were setting up that Parker run all first half, 2nd half Ben saw the defense checked to that run and the rest is history

I think ABs numbers being down helps the team. They are going to matchup. The crossers and the dumps to Connor are WIDE open. There were some real nice rub patterns in the Ravens game.

I will add that Fichner's offense does a better job of putting receivers in motion to create rubs for clean releases off the LOS for short yardage plays. When you have AB and JuJu executing them, there's a reason why the Steelers had so many 3rd down conversions and a 4th down conversion on short yardage.

Ben seems to be more willing to take what's available rather than force it down the field to AB. All those crossing routes Sunday would not have happened in the past.

I've always been good with the sugar route to the wr. If the db is playing way off. It seems to me those plays are way up and the obligatory bubble screens are way down.

Yeah, love it too. So knowledgeable even at his young age and such a keen eye. I don't know if it's him or Depot, but they're showing some gifs of Mike Hilton in the Rats game, and the guy is just crazy good. Such great instincts, I don't know if I've seen him make a glaring mistake on the field yet.

Just the simple usage of the quarterback sneak, especially when you have a 6'5" 240 lb. quarterback, has made short yardage situations much more effective.

Imagine that.

And they seem to have gone away from automatically running the ball on second down after a first down incompletion, which I like.

He saved 2 TDs. One on the pass he batted down from Andrews, and one on the TFL on Jackson on the QB option right.

Especially when you have an All Pro Center and Guard to run between!

They currently have a good article over there about Villanueva's arm chop move to geek out to as well.

I've become a big fan of that site over the last few years because of Kozora and Bryan's analysis that does a great job of not always looking thru black and gold glasses.
