In American football, there has been so much emphasis on "blowing guys up", and knocking the ball loose. Tackling with proper form doesn't cause the turnovers that we are looking for. Blowing guys up does.

Nailed it. And I also have to admit that at the NFL level there are just times that they really don't have much time for technique. The guys they tackle are so friggen quick sometimes it is just easier to launch yourself into him. And you are totally right when a player launches himself into the ball and dislodge it that is what they look for. I ll be interested what happens when the heads up kids start reaching college etc.
