ram's week, this T'aint your 79 rams and sur as **** not real football...............

That can't be right, Starkey is sarcastic alot, I'm sure Goff has fumbles, but if it's 11 that's insane.

This is actually what Starkey was referring to: I found this little blurp on the Rams site.

Goff, who fumbled in 10 straight games prior to not fumbling last week, fumbled again today. That's 13 fumbles and 13 INTs in his last 12 games for him.

****, thats worse than I what I first posted.

Rams fans are more concerned with their shaky Oline play and coaches lack of using a running offense

We can't let them get out to a lead early, keep it sloppy like the Colts, and yeah, pressure Goff and hope for turnovers

Make them muck it up in the cold dirt

I agree Spike, we need a faster start than we've been in the past. That means both "O" and "D" so foot on the gas.

I'm worried about Aaron Donald rattling Rudolph in his homecoming game and first game as an NFL player at Heinz Field.

exactly this. i have visions of donald absolutely whipping the *** of every lineman we have out there throughout the game, and rudolph in the fetal position, crying for mama. the offensive line is going to have likely their best performance of the season for the steelers to have a chance.

Yeah, this is Rudolph's hand, does seems smaller than average.

ewww toe thumb!

Just cheat that extra lineman eligible over and double team him.

If that elgible can catch, hit him once or twice......... Would sure change their line thinking......... Slow em up a bit.

Maybe Zachary been hitting the Juggs....... Machine

I see Rams are 3.5 favorites at STEELERS. That would be like 6.5 if they were at home.

I'd like to see a comparison of point spread vs teams cover. I know it'll never happen but it would be curious to see and I bet the spread wins out and for some teams.......... That is by a wide margin.

On O, the RB out of the backfield will be key with Donald coming. We also need to start using our TE's again and actually call/throw quick slants across the middle. With Donald coming, Rudolph won't have time to sit back there and wait for someone to come open. We may even need to roll him out a bit to create some extra time to throw. Then again, we'll probably just have him drop back 10 yards to throw and hope Donald doesn't get there before he plants his back foot to throw. Or, we'll keep running up the middle when it hasn't worked all year.

Guy known to bust up doubles so mix up things. Double up front, pull linemen to log him on play away, chip with backs, etc. Can't do just one thing.

Fast hitting plays so MR gotta get ball out fast. Rbs gotta hit holes fast and not wait.

Keeping my expectations in check, but already getting amped for this game, and it's only Thurs. Just glad we're still in this thing, after such a horrendous first quarter of the season.

Well we will see the HEART of this team. I'm sure they won't tank and even with the jumble I still see a close victory by 5.

What about our ST, more specific why do we conceed no chance of a return run on punts or kick offs? Imagine if we could give the O just a little better starting spot. Why does the coaching continue to trot out The "non-return" man. Don't they think we need those yards?

It kind of reminds me of the last year Mike MITCHELL WAS HERE,....... USELESS and no play. Mike Switzer

From another thread....

The potential upside is Brooks-James may replace Switz on kickoff returns, which I'd be eager to see.

Tony Brooks-James eager to make a run at improving Steelers kick-return game
https://triblive.com/sports/tony-br...practice-eager-and-willing-for-shot-in-games/

The Steelers have one of the worst kickoff return units in the NFL. Could a change be coming?

Rookie running back Tony Brooks-James said practiced as a returner and would welcome the opportunity in a game. The speedy Brooks-James returned kicks for Oregon. As a senior, he averaged 26.1 yards per return. The longest return for a Steeler on any kick this year is 26 yards.

“Me and Coach have talked about it a little,” Brooks-James said, “and in practice I have done it a little bit. But I am trying to get it in a game, too.”

The Steelers did not practice kickoff returns Wednesday, Brooks-James said.

Last season, Brooks-James had five games in which he returned at least one kickoff 32 yards. He returned 44 kicks during his college career, including a 100-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff of the 2017 season.

Over his final two seasons, Brooks-James averaged 25.9 yards per return. The Steelers this season are averaging 18.3 yards per return (Ryan Switzer and Johnny Holton are at that figure), third-worst in the NFL. Only two other teams do not have at least one return of 27 yards or more.

From his draft profile:

PROS: Speed demon who's a homerun threat on every touch. Eats up angles, through the tackles but especially when working to the boundary, and is very difficult for most third-level defenders to close on when he's working into the sideline. Has returner like feel for space and ability to burn. Contact balance impresses, especially for a player of such a thin frame. Has a nice feel for attacking defender's leverage and can angle body to bounce off. Feel for leverage and flow appears again as a zone runner: excels at diagnosing upfield cutback lanes and has the explosiveness to slip by unblocked read keys. Has stop-start suddenness to make pursuit defenders whiff. Profiles nicely to a high quantity of receiving reps; already used heavily on bubble screens and flare routes.

So lets game plan for this week....

Special Teams
Don't **** up. I mean, that is all we really have in a return guy. Same advice to coverage and XP/FG I guess. I guess also be aggressive trying to pin punts near the goalline and leave the Rams the longest porch possible.

Defense
Stay aggressive up front and pressure both Goff and Gurley. Yea, it is going to cost us a few chunk plays, but the aggression up front is helping create turnovers on the back end. The defense isn't shutdown, it is opportunistic. Play the strength and don't try to be something you aren't.

Offense

Isolate Donald as best you can. I'd say get help from FB but not sure of Rosies status after last week.

I know folks are going to hate this, but keep a fair amount of swing passes going to the RB's. Why? Because teams stack the box against MR and for various reasons we can't get deep (MR struggles, WR open struggles, protection issues, etc). The other way to loosen the box is to widen the field. The entire point of the swing pass and WR bubble screens are to keep the defense from getting to tight int he box. This isn't the only thing they need to do, but they need to keep some of this going love it or hate it.

Find the medium routes. Quick Slant, cross, TE pop passes, hooks, etc. They don't seem to like throwing over the middle with MR...it all goes to the sidelines and even then they don't throw out routes. But you gotta get something going. I think McDonald and Vannet (sp?) should be featured more.

Keep taking the downfield shots.

If you get a lead, keep moving the chains. Everyone ******* about blowing leads, but the offense can help protect a lead but getting first downs. Being predictable with run-run-longpass is not conducive to winning...keep the foot on the pedal and keep moving the chains.

Protect the ball. For ***** sake, protect the ball. I get it, turnovers happen, but secure the ball. Focus on the ball. Make Plays for MR. Lots of chatter about Ben's first year here but what I don't see is something Ward said..."Make plays for the QB". I know, veteran recievers and RB and whatnot. Still, you wanna win you gotta make plays.

My Key Players for Offense not named MR are Vance McDonald and DJ. Get those two active and life will be good.
My Key Players for Defense - The guys up front. Dupree, Watt, and Cam are balling. Would love to see Hargrave or someone else start feeding on that success as well.

That is my quick points. What say y'all.
Read my mind.

I'd seriously consider bringing the wildcat back this week to slow Donald down. I'm not kidding...

The kid can fly...I'll wait and see...

Steelers always seem to have an eye for players like this...you never know. I'm hoping like hell Brooks-James gets to line-up for a KR or two.

Couple of thoughts on his highlight reel:

- very first play, looks like friggin' AB, the body posture, running style, the little wiggle move, the acceleration...all of it. Had to rub my eyes, thought I was watching AB tape from C. Michigan.
- shows great vision on the 100+ yard KO return, smooth as silk, made his cuts perfectly following his blockers.
- shows great hands on some of the catches, including that first TD. Impressive for a RB.
- the kid has wheels, no doubt about that.

All this back at Oregon of course, this is a whole different ballgame. Besides the fact Switz looks like he's running in sand, it seems our KR blocking has been below par. That has got to change, regardless of who the returner is. But from the bottom of my heart I hope Tomlin gives this kid a look this Sunday. Switz is a known commodity, someone who won't take too many chances and won't make any dumb decisions, but his ceiling to make splash plays is about 2 & 1/2 inches off the ground right now. Field position matters, a lot. We suck real bad returning kicks, it's time for a spark.

I'd also love to see Diontae Johnson on a few PR's as well. Let Switz handle it if it's a short kick, but if the Rams are backed up punting the ball, let DJ show what he can do.

Spencer shined last weekend I think. What was Colbert/Shades thinking? That could've added a whole another dimension to our offense. Better starting field position, less pressure on the O and D, even possibly a score here and there. I dont get it.

The Rams seem pretty fluky with a few superstars. I think we squeak out a win if the Steelers have a good start and dont screw up on both sides of the ball.

They have a solid pass rush and are good at passing it. Despite their struggles this year they remain a dangerous team.

Steelers will need to win the turnover battle and convert redzone plays into TDs to have a chance in this one.

I give the Steelers D an edge but clearly the Rams O has an advantage.

If I was a betting man this is a game I wouldn't put green on the Steelers, but I don't bet and never pick against the Steelers.

Mason this is a game we need you to be more accurate. Just move the chains and get the ball out of your hands quickly.

I won't mind if he dinks and dunks all game if he controls the TOP. Which will be key to pulling out a win besides winning the turnover battle.

As their O has enough weapons to make this still developing D struggle. So keep them off the field with long time eating drives.

I have that trait as well, even in my "FREE" pick-ums or anything, no matter what, I don't pick against the steelers, never ever have.

You are dead on as to TOP battle, STEELERS need that greatly in their favor and must score TDs and not just FGs.
