Question about Hargrave with Heyward out

add a fast athlethic ROLB perhaps Feeney could be the guy is as about almost as fast as Shazier a front 4 of DE Dupee DT Hargrave DT Tuitt DE Heyward OLB Shazier MLB Williams OLB Feeney/rookie

My hope for Feeney is he becoming a Rover S/MLB like Su'a Cravens. He lacks the frame to be an OLB.

Edit: in a 4-3 like you state he might be useful

If you ask me, the 4-3 is not equipped to play in a passing NFL as a base set, Unless they have very good safeties to cover the other teams 3rd and 4th option. Most teams do not.

The base defense is shifting more toward a nickel with a hybrid OLB/S on the field.

If you ask me...

Kid isn't a nose and is miscast there. He penetrates and disrupts. Waste of time at nose taking on double teams. Next year he should strictly become part of the DE rotation.

Unless I am mistaken he was a DT in college, in a 4-3. So DE is not his natural position either. Put him at DT in a 4-3 and now we are talking.

I think they need to mix things up with their nickel package, but watching Hargrave make the most of his opportunities was a good start. Even with Heyward, the Steelers have three guys that can play multiple spots and they can move them around like the linebackers.

However, I think Hargrave's explosion has been the perfect storm of circumstances. He adjusts his position, he played against bad offensive lines and Butler was way more aggressive against these teams. Who knows what he'll do down the stretch against better competition, but the fact that this small school rookie has looked very good against bad competition is a good sign.

nickel, 4-3, 3-4, whatever the **** we need a functional pass rush and right now thinking on next season our best pass rushers are Heyward, Tuitt and Hargrave with Dupree having the potential to be the 4th. What's the use of being in nickel and having just Heyward, Tuitt and 2 OLBs of which maybe just one (Dupree) would really help? Because you can't really count on the others (Harrison will probably retire, Chickillo is still developing in to a rotational player, Moats... Meh, Jarvis ... well Jarvis just can't rush the passer). So you are wasting a player on the field that won't do any help while keeping a kid like Hargrave on the bench instead of maximizing his abilities

You put your best 4 on the line with Shazier back there with another rover (Golden, rookie, Feeney) cleaning **** up, while 7 DBs cover upfield

I am still curious: Why is Feeney often referred to as this great potential but seemingly is no where near good enough to ever see the field? If he has so much promise, why do I never see him getting any playing time? I know rookies generally don't play much (although this year we are seeing 3 play a lot, which is not normal for us), but I see his name often brought up as a legit player with great promise. I am not sure what the truth is.

he's injured. He doesn't seem to me like a great promise, seems like a true athlete with ability to play a specific role in a D. The downside is he's been injury prone, an ok gamble late in the 5th

You can only play whose on your schedule, but I want to see him continue this vs good teams and qbs
