On fourth down if the team runs the ball, what happens to the clock while the offense goes off that the defense comes in?
This question came up during our Steeler Party in the Ravens game. I didn't hear it mentioned anywhere so maybe the clock just stops.
The Steelers had the ball on BAL23 with 1:01 left in the game. Baltimore no time outs. Fourth down. Scobee just missed a 49 yard kick the last time he was down there and now facing a 41 yarder. If you run the ball, will the clock continue while the teams go off the field while giving you a chance at a first down? Leaving them with not much time on the clock?
Just curious. Since Scobee missed the kick and Baltimore went down and scored tying the game up eventually winning the game. Guys in our living room were yelling for them to run the ball on fourth down to use up the clock.
