Who cares about proven? And more proven than Howard, Thompson or any of the draft picks…proven to be mid, but proven none the less.
Cheap and mid both are solid qualifiers for a QB2
Hopefully he is displaced by a cheaper option with greater upside potential soon, but a team
Can do worse in regards to talent or salary for their QB2.
keep in mind the two extremely talented running backs and only one real receiver (Warren) two years ago and none last year.Allar has had a total of 3 games over 300 yrds in his career. Last year in the 6 games he played he did not break 220yrds passing and only had one game above 8yyrds/attempt. He also had 3 games below 7yrds / attempt. I don't care how physically talented someone is if he can't throw it where he is supposed to consistently. Coaching can hold you back but in big name schools natural talent usually shines though especially against physically mismatched teams. I just don't see that with Allar.
If he signs for more than vet min, it messed with the money the cards owe him. It's the Russell Wilson situation exactly. He'll sign somewhere for one year at vet min, and hope he plays into a long term deal.
I don't want him either, just explaining the money part of his situation.Still wouldn’t want him. Several articles talking about meMEme, home developing his brand ahead of the team, we don’t need any of that. He hasn’t done **** lately, Rudolf can do that just as easily.
Spend the money, not the geriatric pills.

No prob, I wasn't offended, only doubling down on your opinion of him as a player. There are quite a few players I would take over him, including Ty Simpson, who I really don't want either lolDidn’t mean to imply you did, sorry.
I have a tendency to write and not proof - read.
Thanks for the financial aspect of his deal.

Given how Khan and McCarthy have hyped up Howard this offseason, if Rudolph is still on the roster this season then Howard isn’t it. He should be the clear No. 2 if they believe there’s starting potential there.FA will answer a few questions. 2 trades I'd be watching are Davis Mills & Mac Jones. I think Mac costs too much, but Mills for a mid round pick could be interesting.
I wouldn't mind Mariota if Rodgers calls it quits. Throws a decent ball, mobile. I expect the McCarthy style offence & better WR's will hide some of his faults.
Regardless- I expect 2 QB's added either through FA or the draft before the season kicks off. Unless Howard or a rookie beat Mason, I expect the QB depth to look-
Rodgers/FA
Rudolph
Howard/Draft Pick

The Tomlinship years are hopefully over.

Not sure I agree. Howard would be the clear 2 at starter but would he be the clear the 2 as gameday backup. Those are different roles. Mason has his faults but he is always ready to come in a game as needed.Given how Khan and McCarthy have hyped up Howard this offseason, if Rudolph is still on the roster this season then Howard isn’t it. I am pretty confident it is already a virtually done deal.I don't think the Steelers are really interested in bringing Rodgers back, and I don't think the Steelers are his first choice. If they don't sign anyone in FA I'll eat those words, but I could easily see a guy like Brissett coming in to replace Mason and be a bridge to a rookie or Will.
So if the Steelers re-sign Rodgers, Khan/McCarthy, who have spoken highly about Howard want him to be the starter if Rodgers gets hurt, but he gets #3 reps during the week because Rudolph would be the gameday backup? Not sure I agree. Exactly. What does that do for Howard except delay development. That's the Tomlin plan for Howard, Wilson, Johnson. Harmon got on the field at least. So if the Steelers re-sign Rodgers, Khan/McCarthy, who have spoken highly about Howard want him to be the starter if Rodgers gets hurt, but he gets #3 reps during the week because Rudolph would be the gameday backup?
At first yes, I think he would. Unless he just blows him away during preseason, which we all hope he does. There is history for this, but it isn't under McCarthy so take it for what it is worth. So if the Steelers re-sign Rodgers, Khan/McCarthy, who have spoken highly about Howard want him to be the starter if Rodgers gets hurt, but he gets #3 reps during the week because Rudolph would be the gameday backup?
You said he’d be QB2 but not the backup. That approach doesn’t make any sense. Again, if they actually believe in Howard he has to start the offseason program as QB2. Get him as many reps as possible. At first yes, I think he would. Unless he just blows him away during preseason, which we all hope he does. Until we see the kid take an actual NFL snap it is all conjecture as well as who else we may have as the 4th option.
Actually, the Titans already gave Rudolph a shot as a #1...and he went 1-4 with an 80.1 passer rating. He is what he is: a career backup.Nobody anywhere gives Mason Rudolph a shot as #1. But Rodgers was heavy on his praise of Rudolph. I think he's the locked-in #2 unless a rookie completely outplays him- in a weak QB year.
OK, Unc.I do think Allar has more talent than Mendoza, but Mendoza is further ahead in the mental aspect. Part of that is he played in an offense that fit his strengths. Plus, he had WRs that made tons on circus catches for him.
I'm not hung up on it. I just think "talent" is a word commonly misconstrued when it comes to describing quarterbacks. Talent is natural aptitude or skill. Being 6'5" tall isn't a skill. Weighing 228 pounds doesn't signify natural aptitude. I guess being able to throw the football long and far could be interpreted as a talent, but what good is a strong arm if you can't perform in the moments that matter on the field?I don't get why you're hung up on this "talent" thing. Josh Allen was clearly the most talented QB in his draft but wasn't the first picked. It happens all the time. Allen took 3 years to develop. I don;t want to sink multiple years into developing a guy who can be Kirk Cousins level.
The draft is a projection. I want the players with upside, not a bunch of safe picks. That's how the steelers had a bunch of mediocre drafts in Colberts last few years. Maybe that was Tomlin's doing.
Willis is a question mark, too. I don't want the Steelers to use a high pick on Simpson, and I don't want them to use any pick on Allar. Maybe in five or eight years, you can come back and tell me how wrong I was after some guru NFL coach somehow turns Allar around. But I believe that you either have the clutch gene or you don't, and he clearly does not. He'll probably carve out a nice living for himself as a career clipboard holder. Nothing wrong with that.I'd rather they sign Willis. He already has a few years in a similar system. But if the choice of a high pick is Simpson or Allar, I'd rather take the chance on Allar's upside.
To be fair- that same Titans team went 2-10 with Will Levis, so Rudolph is twice the starter he is, statistically...Actually, the Titans already gave Rudolph a shot as a #1...and he went 1-4 with an 80.1 passer rating. He is what he is: a career backup.
