QB Kyle Trask @ # 24 to Steelers-Orlofsky's BOLD PREDICTION

Trask just seems like a replica of this guy Mason Rudolph who came into the pros just a few years back

Imagine what SANTA could have done with two "rednoses"

What the hell, it's mid-April....Let's start some stuff on the board....

Hey, if we want any **** out of you........ we'll squeeze yaz.........................(JK)

I've seen Trask predictions of top 15 to mid third, hell I read (way early in draft discussion) that they'd take Trask over Larwance, go figure. The cheatriots are looking to move up to get "their" QB which may mean that a team is deprived of a QB and may take Trask before 1.24....... which leaves the question of will he be there at 1.24 and would the STEELERS pull the trigger?

We have some pretty deep needs. I'm pretty sure this is BEN's last season and it could go either way.........SB run or 6-11. It all comes down to how much VALUE they have assigned him. BPA and hopefully to fill a need. I think Trask will be there in rnd 2 and come down to him or a RB. I hope like hell we use our 1sr round on NOT trask but if we do I, like many here, will welcome him in to our family.

not that i'm wholeheartedly endorsing Trask, mind you, but i don't think that's a very close comparison at all. not sure how good he'll end up being, but i'd bet dollars to donuts he'll be a helluva lot better than rudolph will ever be.

I’ll point out that since Ben has turned 32 or 33 there has almost every year been a potential qb we argue about being worth taking if he falls to us and to date not one has fallen that far.... most see their value peek after the combine and go top ten to fifteen... remember how last year tua was going to fall due to injury...

Im not saying he is absolutely the pick if he is there, but if Dan was still in charge and they felt the kid has it to be a long term answer, they’d pull the trigger and deal Rudolph for a third or fourth cause they don’t want a virtual repeat of the Marino fiasco 40 years later...

He has the frame and the touch... he isn’t mobile but he isn’t exactly statuesque either... he can survive inside the pocket ok... his line was totally crap....

the other think to think about is that the knocks on his arm are actually less than the ones on brady or brees coming out... he has some minor mechanical things but nothing showstopping

the bottom line is if they take a runningback over this kid and he pans out they will be kicking themselves for the 15 to 20 some years he plays....

The smart choice is still fixing the line... but it’s never a bad idea to get a qb...

Id trade down in the first, take a tackle, if trask falls to the second trade rudolph for a pick and package a second and a third to get him.... use our second on a center or rb.... and whatever we get for moving down on the other position .... or some blend of that

He kind of plays like Kurt Warner.

He's a really good prospect who would have been a top 10-15 pick most other years, but this QB class is just so deep.

The Steelers should consider him at 24, IMO, but they won't

Here is the reality of the Steelers taking a replacement QB high in the last 4 years. considering the person would have to be on the board or reasonable proximity to move up in a trade.
2020 Steelers took Chase Claypool. Jalen Hurt was still on the board. no idea what he is yet.
2019 Steelers moved up to take Devin Bush no way they get to one for Murray and not sure I'd want him. Only other guy is Dwayne Haskins who is currently on the roster.
2018 Steelers took Terrell Edmunds. Lamar Jackson was on the board. He had a huge splash, but he may be Kordell 2.0
2017 Steelers took TJ Watt and there were no QB's taken anywhere near his pick, plus I don't see one guy in that whole draft I'd trade for Watt.
So in a nutshell, the Steelers could have had Larmar Jackson or Jalen Hurt in the time when you started to go "Should we take a QB here". I don't know much about Trask, but I doubt he is a sure fire long term starter. I pass. Play out the year. Sink or swim with what's on the roster in 2022 (unless Ben gets hurt and they sink this year). And either draft in 2022 or 2023 if Rudolph isn't the guy.

My sincere hope is that Trask is available at 24 (which I believe he will be) and some ultra desperate QB needy team gives us an offer we can’t refuse to jump up and grab him...and not the usual Steelers running the fastest ‘on the clock to podium time’ like they do every other draft.

a little suspense would be nice

Get your popcorn ready

He's a mid rounder if someone takes him late 1 or early 2 it could be a EJ Manual all over grat college QB forced or rushed in flames out in 2-3 years, I think he is a late 2, better than Mond and Newman

Unlikely, as a team that desperate is going to be making an offer that can't be refused long before the 24 pick.

I can't see taking Trask. He's OK but i don't see a special talent. This team has much bigger needs in the first 3 rounds and there will be better prospects available. If a guy like Lance or Fields falls to 24 then you grab him because of the upside.

Other than that they should not be looking QB until at least Rd 4 and a guy like Mond ot Davis Mills. I'm not a big fan of Mond. every time i saw him he was mediocre, but he does have upside. Mills is smart but doesn't have many starts.

Aside from that, i wouldn't take a QB until Rd 7 or UDFA. I'd like to see Brady White in camp because he would be a great fit in Canada's scheme and an upgrade to Dobbs at least.

Well I agree with pretty well all you say except that little tidbit.
While I love TJ......that would be the day I wouldn’t want Patrick Mahomes before him. Believe me if we had Mahomes he would be legendary in our dear Steeler Nation.

It always comes down to whether you think he has a legitimate chance to be a franchise guy or not.... you simply can never afford to pass on that type of guy... period... of tge Steelers are as some reports are saying, looking at him as a guy who is going to explode upward in two seasons then yeah i see them making a play for him.... but I don’t think that it will be at 24....

You are correct. Mahomes and Rub and Tug Watson were taken. Mahomes was 20 picks earlier. He would be worth the trade but it wouldn't have happened. Not 20 picks.

Well,I was commenting on your comment of saying you would not trade ANY one for TJ in this draft,lol.....
And of course as unrealistic as it would have been,KC moved up from 27 to 10 for Mahomes. Giving up a 3rd and 2018 first. Not quite 20 picks, but 17 isn’t too shabby.
Cheers.

The draft is a very funny thing. You get KC moving up 17 spots for a third and next years first. They get a generational player. Then you get the 49ers moving up where they went for a kings ransom and possibly taking Mac Jones who is someone I thought meh if he really slides the Steelers might take a shot at.

You are defining "mobility" in a manner differently than most. The hype about Lawrence, Lance and Fields is not their ability to move around behind the LOS to buy time to deliver the ball, as much as it is their actual running ability. Trask is pretty good at moving around in the pocket. I have seen dozens of throws he made against some decent SEC pass rushes where he maneuvered left or right to buy time, or stepped up as he delivered the ball.
I never said that Ben had the same type of hype as those three guys, and I didn't say he had the same level of mobility. To me, Ben simply had to be "mobile" enough to make all of those throws which I described. And from what I've seen from Trask, he doesn't remind me of Ben at all in that respect. Trask buying time in and around the pocket is not the same as Ben breaking outside in a full sprint and accurately completing long passes all over the field, which he did routinely earlier in his career.
