Props to Tomlin for benching Rudolph

What was their excuse last year when everyone was healthy? The Steelers aren't the only team with injuries and they have an extremely easy schedule. They are also playing against many teams with brand new coaching staffs including 4 games in their own division. They are the ones that said Rudolph had a 1st round grade. So yes this is of their making.

Ok you’re right. We should win the SB every year. After, all, look at all the other teams that are doing it. Who was that other team that won multiple Super Bowls in the last ten years besides NE? I forgot. And it doesn’t matter that we’re playing with our second (and in some cases third) string QB. Oh yes, and the staff is supposed to be right in all of their draft assessments (all though I never heard anyone say Rudolph was Ben’s heir apparent, except fans). This team should be (and would be) 10-1 or at least 11-2 if we had anyone other than Tomlin at the helm. Oh, yeah, next man up means Rudolph or Hodges should be able to run the same offense Ben runs. Did I cover all the ridiculous arguments? smh

no matter who the QB is against CLE, they need JuJu and/or Connor back. Their lack of weapons are not helping either QB. The two new guys we signed off the practice squads looked good, though.

Who's talking about multiple SBs? The Steelers haven't won a SB since 08-09 Season. I couldn't care less about what other teams have or haven't done with their HOF QBs.... oh wait.. most teams don't have HOF QBs. There are just a handful of them and you need to win when you have one because they don't come along that often. Tomlin has won 3 playoff games in 8 (about to be 9) seasons. All of those 3 games were against backup QBs and 1 of those was given to him by the bungles going mental.

Your other points are just strawmen setup for you to knock down. Fact is that they are responsible for the players they draft. They are responsible for the team. Did I cover all of your ignorant points? I think so smh

a big part of the problem is the RBs. In today's NFL, the RBs have to be able to pick up blitzes and the steeler RBs are terrible at it. Conner is OK at it but the rest, you may as well be in empty set because at least then the QB knows he has no help.

The biggest offseason miss was not signing a veteran RB. Samuel is not a RB. He's a WR who occasionally takes handoffs.

I hated the Snell pick too. I just don't see this guy as anything other than a backup RB. I'd like to see them transition Snell to FB and bring in a new RB either in free agency or a high pick.

This team is completely of Tomlin’s making, how many years have they gone without developing a young QB? He, how many years have they failed to even bring a decent one in? Sooner or later, with as many 1st round Defensive picks spent, you are bound to find a few keepers.

If there is ANYWAY to unload Coach Cool Shades on Washington, they need to do it. This team FINALLY has a few players for a new HC to work with, Tomlin has **** the bed for too many years, time for a fresh start. Maybe it would be the best thing for Tomlin too.

Just juju back would be good enough.

I love this board, man. If you say something about player X, it must mean you favor player Y. Simply not the case. Regardless of who starts, I want that QB to do well. I mean, Hodges was 5-11 for 118 and a TD. If that gets your blood pumping, go for it. Still, I just don't think it will make much difference because at the end of the day, Randy Fichtner is still calling the plays, WR still cannot consistently get open, and our running game blows, yesterday not withstanding.

As I said before, I don't think Rudolph or Hodges is as bad as they have shown, but when the OC is handcuffing you every play, I'm not sure you can expect anything better.

Orrrr on the flipside perhaps neither is simply Big Ben.So now teams are pinning their ears back rushing the QBs with less fear it will burn them white crowding the line of scrimmage limiting the rushing attack.

We have been spoiled from the coaches all the way down to us lowly Steelers fans with the elite play of Big Ben. A franchise QB can hide many of team blemishes. But yeah we all want the QBs to do well. I am for whoever is giving us the best chance to win on any given day.

Dobbs is better than both but we ain’t talkin about that right now

The offense sucks because Fitchner treats our back up QB's like they are Special Ed students not worthy of the full curriculum.

The Deuce is so detached I EXPECT him to fix it by bringing I the ex Seattle OC who lost the Super Bowl by NOT giving it to the Beast mode with 2nd and goal SB to win

A few points in defense of Rudolph. The kid has potential-he's not being coached along very well. Not just Rudolph, but Hodges well both need a true QB coach. Fichtner's offense was designed (ok it's Todd Haley's playbook with different names) for Ben and Antonio Brown. Now he has either Rudolph or Hodges operating it and he has Juju, Washington and Johnson, Connor (sometimes) and the rest are either 3rd stringers or practice squad guys. I hope Tomlin shuts Rudolph down for the season as a number 2 and brings in a QB coach to work with him during the off-season and look at a different offensive coordinator for next season-however; if Ben is back, that ain't happening..

The problem is coaching.
Ben learned enough under Cowher/Whisenhunt etc to cover for any of Tomlin’s goofs.

Now that Tomlin has more of a hand on the roster, the inability to groom a QB is evident.
Hodges is similar to Ben in terms of freestyle play, but still lacks the vision for reads. Rudolph is just flat out hesitant.

I honestly don’t know what to make. I’ll say is if Hodges is the guy moving forward, he’s capable of giving us those freak touchdowns like today with Washington’s big play.

Nope...

Please don't put Ben's faster release, multiple 6 TD games (back to back I'll remind you), 5000 yard passing season, etc...on bad coaching - especially since you're blaming Coach Tomlin.

We've talked about it for years - did Coach Tomlin have full control of the team in the early years? Who cares??? The offense EXPLODED under Coach Tomlin's watch - you cannot even compare the production under Coach Cowher's years...

But sure, let's blame injury to Ben on Coach Tomlin - he should have had a replacement cocked and ready 5 years ago...

I think Rudolph would be ok if he had any time to throw. He sucks under pressure, though, and the clowns exposed that, big time.

With Villanueva looking like a rented mule / drum / red headed step child out there, Duck and his mobility make it an obvious choice for me. I'm shocked Tomlin pulled the trigger.

I'm not sure either QB is very good, but there was one play they replayed on the live broadcast, a sack by Rudolph, he had 7 seconds, snap to sack, he had Samuels and Vance wide open underneath, he never even looked off his first read to see either of them.

I agree with all of this 100%

Much like I highly doubt every wr is suddenly unable to get open because their skillsets suddenly failed them. I think our plays are stale and predictable and we overspecialize with personal so it makes it easy to read what we are doing...

And I don’t believe an all pro studded Oline suddenly all forgot how to block...

And I don’t think that every TE on the squad became invisible because of their inability to play...

And I certainly don’t think that Two different young QBs with different skill sets are having all the same general issues because of coincidence and magic...

I think Fitchner is a bust who has no clue what to do with a young qb and who is still using mostly hayleys plays and who’s flaws were covered up by Ben making his own reads and calls...

I also think he only has this job cause he coached with Tomlin in college

At a minimum, I would have brought in Whiz as an offensive assistant by now...

Maybe this falls on Tomlin. last season the Ravens had a statue in Flacco at QB, until week 9 or whatever it is, a QB with a completely different skill set comes in and they completely change their O mid season and go on a run to the playoffs and catch us for the division. When it comes to Tomlin, it's always he coordinators, maybe at some point it's the guy that signs off on all this.
Maybe Fichtner has no clue, but Tomlin signs off on the game plan every single week. Last week vs Cleveland they showed Tomlin talking to the D and instructing them, the proceeded to go out and allow a TD.

Hell yeah, remember how he kicked *** in that Raider game last year! Man, if only we had that ******* scrub back to make sure we could lose to every ******* 3 and 13 team out there. Some of you have **** memories, I'll give ya that.

Excellent statement - there are some great options at OC out there. Should be our top priority this off season...

I notice Rudolph holds on to the ball way too long, and he still misses wide open receivers. He is terrible imo.

Fuknier should be benched too! I can’t recall more horrible play calling in all my years as a steeler fan than this season. I think Rudy’s first game he threw like 20 times for an average 1 yard down field I mean wtf! What kinda play calling is that? And this bullshit of “bring him along slowly..” *** he had a whole season watching Ben that’s more than the rookies out there playing on crappy teams had. They gave him a chance and with that said he don’t got it. He has no pocket presents, horrble footwork, not accurate, can’t scramble, no threat to run. He blows cut him now be done with it... move on...

I agree the play calling is ******, but... Joe Walton

.

This is what I'm saying. There are teams in this league that have relative no names as WR, and those guys are getting open and those teams are able to go down the field in the passing game. Take the Bills for example. Their top two WR are John Brown and Cole Beasley with four no names, and they have managed 2500 passing yards in 11 games with Josh Allen at QB. Regardless of what you think about Hodges or Rudolph, I think Fichtner is the bigger problem.

He's looked it the past handful of game for sure.

My point was everyone is blaming the Oline, blaming the RB's, blaming the WR's, the OC, etc., but that play he had 7 seconds and two guys completely wide open.
