Ben and Mason have pretty much said the same thing. Ben is on the sideline and is available whenever needed/wanted. But, it is up to the young QB to go to Ben rather than Ben step on the young QB's toes during the game. That's how it should be.

I’m on the fire Tomlin wagon right now. That’s my opinion.
My other opinion is that Ben has been carrying this team the past 5 years or so.
Now that he’s hurt, granted there are injuries at skill positions as well. But the lack of playmaking ability that Ben has provided is severely missed.
Do franchise QB’s grow on trees? No.
But whoever his backup is, should at least be game ready.
Pin it on coaching, water boys whoever. But this team is late 90’s all over again.

Use ALL the stats and numbers you want.
But what it actually boils down to is what do your eyes tell you.
When watching our lackluster mediocre offense, ask yourself this..............
Who moves the offense better?
Who makes better decisions?
Who makes more out of nothing?
Who looks like they're more comfortable in the chaos?
The answer is CLEARLY Duck.
Now Duck is NOT the answer for life after Ben. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.
But Duck the flat tire gives us a better chance to win than Rudolph the square wheel.

Right now all I expect from the duck is to secure the ball and get 23 points per game aided by the running game.
Rudolph (and I was really rooting for him) is just shell shocked (as another poster put it) from that Thomas hit, he isn't the same and right now he is a turnover waiting to happen, his confidence is shot and the team doesn't have enough tools nor offensive game plan to take him out of that funk.
Duck just gives the team a better shot right now to Not Lose the game.
Mason shouldn't see the field again this season barring injuries, it's a mental issue unfortunately because he has the tools to be a middle of the pack QB in the NFL, a Kirk cousins, for example.

EXCELLERT post and great analogy. Duck steps in and it seems the team "wakes" up a bit. They can see what you and I see, a much more chance of something happening for the win.
Duck's tire isn't quite flat but Rudy's is near squar as he can't maneuver worth a shlit.

I wanted Mason to succeed.
I thought we may have had our successor to Ben all lined up.
But sadly, even before him getting KNOCKED THE F OUT, he was skittish, locking onto receivers, and dumping off far too frequently.
Now, sure, some of that could have been the playcalling ( I'm sure the first game or two ), but there has been enough of a pattern that it may be a bit overwhelming to Mason and he can't manage the pressure.
Mason clearly has more physical traits than Duck. There's no disputing that.
And if we had a coaching staff that could actually teach and mold, then we may be OK.
But we don't.
Duck has the "IT" factor but with very average skills.
For our turnstile O-line, depleted WR and RB corps, and lack of coaching on our staff, Duck gives us the best chance of winning for the remainder of this season.

It's true. Cowher didn't cheat.
Said it before, will say it again. Tomlin is a "high floor, low ceiling" guy.
Which is probably what attributes to him almost completing 50% of his passes!
And since he was drafted in the 3rd, that may not be unexpected...
They bumped their heads on Tomlin's low ceiling when they tried to stand up.
Cowher played a different type of game, but even with the Bus carrying the load for Ben's first couple years, Ben was VERY VERY accurate and efficient. The truth is Ben Roehtlisberger is far and away the most important reason for the offensive success of this team. Tomin is and has always been a defensive guy.
Geez, Spike... you gonna just take him out in the back pasture and put a bullet in the back of his head while you're at it?
For the record, I'd still let Bud walk after this season. 4 years of crap and 1 year of ... well not crap doesn't make him a priority re-sign.
Lol, is that all? I am rather hoping he completes more passes than not. That's my 'starting block'.

What is more important than Ben talking is for Tomlin and the OC to come up with a plan to help these rookies. The standard run twice up the middle and then but either QB in the situation of third and long is on the coaches. Setting up a full rush and then expecting a good play from the QB is lame. We still have TE's we do not use and obvious bringing them in has not helped this running fame. Ben has nothing to do with any of this.
