Props to Tomlin for benching Rudolph

I’m not sure how you come to that opinion. His accuracy is erratic (some of which can be attributed to poor OL play). His arm strength is often questionable on deep throws even when he is not pressured.

I was really hoping the guy was going to take over for Ben at some point, but unless something changes, I just don’t see it.

THIS X 10000.

As I stated elsewhere, he was progressing nicely until Earl Thomas put him to sleep. Since then, he is playing scared, rattled, and HIGHLY INACCURATE.

THE DUCK MAN is UNDEFEATED as an NFL QB

JUST WIN BABY!

I agree with all of this 100%

Much like I highly doubt every wr is suddenly unable to get open because their skillsets suddenly failed them. I think our plays are stale and predictable and we overspecialize with personal so it makes it easy to read what we are doing...

And I don’t believe an all pro studded Oline suddenly all forgot how to block...

And I don’t think that every TE on the squad became invisible because of their inability to play...

And I certainly don’t think that Two different young QBs with different skill sets are having all the same general issues because of coincidence and magic...

I think Fitchner is a bust who has no clue what to do with a young qb and who is still using mostly hayleys plays and who’s flaws were covered up by Ben making his own reads and calls...

I also think he only has this job cause he coached with Tomlin in college

At a minimum, I would have brought in Whiz as an offensive assistant by now...

Come on. Can we finally at some point just move past Whiz? Please?

Back to Mason Sunday in the most important game of the year. Count on it.

Tomlin better have him on a short leash at least.

This is a no win situation. He’s got two average prospects at QB. Duck hasn’t exactly lit up the airways when he’s played. If he goes with Duck, it’s going to make it awful hard to go back to Mason barring injury (even if Duck struggles). If he goes with Mason he’ll get crucified for maintaining the status quo. I’m just not sure Duck is going to provide the boost that everyone is expecting.

Excellent statement - there are some great options at OC out there. Should be our top priority this off season...
Neither the head coach or the OC will be gone this off-season. They like how he interacts with Big Ben. I think we will see a clean house before any coordinators go. Which won't be any time soon. Perhaps a Oline coach exchange or a QB coach brought in. Or a WR coach the most probable out of the bunch...

He is familiar with the org, has documented success making a young qb friendly offense, and is available right now... its not like he has to be a long term solution... he just checks the right boxes...

The reality is we at a minimum need a qb coach right now... there isn’t any denying it

He'd be a fool to put that lead footed statue back there ever again, red nose should never play another down for the Steelers

Maybe this falls on Tomlin. last season the Ravens had a statue in Flacco at QB, until week 9 or whatever it is, a QB with a completely different skill set comes in and they completely change their O mid season and go on a run to the playoffs and catch us for the division. When it comes to Tomlin, it's always he coordinators, maybe at some point it's the guy that signs off on all this.
Maybe Fichtner has no clue, but Tomlin signs off on the game plan every single week. Last week vs Cleveland they showed Tomlin talking to the D and instructing them, the proceeded to go out and allow a TD.

Oh I totally blame Tomlin because to me the single most important thing a head coach does is assemble a staff... i would take a head coach who can pick out a top notch set of coordinators and position coaches that develop, instruct, and help plan schemes excellently but who sleeps on the sidelines over some animated rah rah guy, or even a supergenius who gameplans well but cannot put a good staff together.
I think Cowher was a pretty basic coach who just really put a great staff together... I think thats just so underrated when judging head coaches... gms almost universally let them have their pick...

I was a big proponent of sticking with Mason all year, just to take the opportunity to see what we have in him. He's regressed and now I think you gotta go with the hot hand (Duck) until he's not it anymore. You gotta do that as long as we're in the playoff hunt.

Btw, Kozora did a good breakdown on all of Mason's problems right now.

The Duck's immediate performance once put in the game shows that the coach is a moron, he should have done it last week....

Hell yeah, remember how he kicked *** in that Raider game last year! Man, if only we had that ******* scrub back to make sure we could lose to every ******* 3 and 13 team out there. Some of you have **** memories, I'll give ya that.

Joe

Damn so he only got one game to show what he had. Smh

Edit: Even Ben has a history of looking like trash vs bad Raiders teams. You have **** for memory

So.....You don't think Mason is a ****** QB?

You may have **** for memory.

LOL, there it is, the "well Ben did it"

Ben has had one real bad game vs Oakland (06) coming off a concussion, and even in that one bad game, he completed 68% of his passes for 300+yards.
So other than that game, he's played Oakland 6 times with an average QB rating of 110, hardly a history of looking like trash vs the Raiders, and you're talking about people having **** for memory.

I think Tomlin pulled Rudolph exactly when he needed to... he was definitely rattled. Look, none of these guys are ready... i know fans want talent to be nfl ready out of the box, but thats rare... had Rudolph just kept doing the dink dunk stuff we were doing the first few games and taking a handful of shots downfield he would have been fine... but they were pushing for bigger offensive plays... and now he is forcing stuff and aiming passes.

People here would have cut Bud Dupree before this season and he is light years better than he has been... sometimes guys are going to take time...

The important part about whomever starts the next game is that they really need to just take what the D gives them, don’t second guess your reads, don’t overthink things, and don’t try to force offense...

Very true some just take longer to develop. With QBs you just don't get that over time luxury with such a dependent critical position to the outcome of games. Well unless you are a bottom feeder and your owner doesn't expect much this season. But those are hard dice to roll when a coaches time often is Not For Long. In our teams case it is for longer than the average but the leash gets shorter with time. So when you start to lose often you better quickly look at you QB if he is getting the job done. But I agree take what the D gives you and don't try to do too much. This team isn't in the luxury of being good enough to often be able to overcome turnovers. So move the chains be a game manager.

Very true! Don't forget that James Conner was the bell cow for the Steelers offense when Hodges started in the Chargers game. I say you give Hodges the first team reps this week and rely on the OC to develop a master gameplan.

This is a bit off topic, but I never see a shot of Ben talking to Mason or Duck on the sidelines. I would think he would coach them up a bit.

I didn't see Dalton talking to Finley, didn't see Manning talking to Jones during the game I watched, Brees wasn't talking to Bridgewater, hell the "greatest QB" of all time got his back up traded. I don't think these guys say much during the game to them, if they came and asked I'm sure they'd give them an answer or whatever, but they tend to just stay out of the way during the game.

As you would think they can overstep their boundaries. I have no problem with BigBen saying nothing unless prompted.
