Pre Draft Visits

Kind of interesting. From all reports A'Shawn should be gone 10 picks before we are on the clock. I honestly have found him unimpressive and was hoping he'd go before we pick. Though I think he's a good run stuffer I don't think he will even offer more than to take up blocks and stuff the run. I feel you can get that type of play out of McCullers so why draft a guy in the first for it.

Negative, Ghost Rider. Now, while Bama had an exclusive front seven, Mr. Robinson was very significant in stopping the run and creating the gaps for the LB's to get to the QB. I watched EVERY game last season and he didn't have one "game off". I think Jarran Reed is another possibility, but, like you said, I would have put money that A'Shawn would have been LONG GONE (Jarran, too) by the time we pick at 1.25...

more visits today:

The Pittsburgh Steelers were busy entertaining four more pre-draft visitors on Friday and today’s list included three defensive lineman and another defensive back. Maryland defensive end Quinton Jefferson, South Carolina State defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, Northwestern defensive end Dean Lowry and Mississippi safety Trae Elston

I'm calling it right now. Shaq Lawson will be our pick at #25.. he's going to fall right to us. I love his versatility to play a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme. He will be an absolute steal.

Cravens isn't a safety in the NFL. He will have to play MLB. Plenty of other players like OLB or Safety for us in rd 2.

I just saw Cravens on NFL network stating in his own words he didn't understand the move to LB and he is a safety in the NFL. He said he learned value in being able to play near the line but prefers safety and feels that is wear he fits in the NFL.

Homer. :fat:

He can't cover well enough. Most teams are split on him being a safety or an ILB. We won't go after a maybe, there are plenty of actual safeties to choose from.

He'll play where the coaches tell him to play !!!!!! The days of a tweener telling a NFL TEAM WHERE THEY'LL PLAY IS LONG GONE.....AND THOSE PLAYERS ARE GONE......

what about a guy like Nkimdiche? A front of Nkimdiche, Heyward and Tuitt would be massive, strong and quick. Also interchangeable.
Go CB/DB in the 2nd and 3rd?

i don't think he's a fit. He worries me a bit too because for all his talent, he didn't dominate as often as he should have.

This draft is so deep with guys who fit what the steelers need on the DL. I can't see taking any DL in the first unless they think they found another Dontari Poe, a guy who can play both run and pass. I think that guy is Billings and that's it.

As i've played around a bit with some mock drafts, it just doesn't seem like the best strategy to take DL in the first.

I'm still not all done deciding which guys i like at each position, but it seems to me the best scenario for the Steelers is OLB, CB, DL, S with the first 4 picks.

The wildcards are WR and OT. I keep coming across scenarios where OT or WR are the best pick in RD 2. How? It's pretty simple if there's not a worthy DB available. Again with DL being so deep, it makes sense to grab a top OT or WR because those positions are thin. OT drops off a cliff after the first few picks maybe 5 or 6 OTs and then the rest are all a crap shoot.

Martavis may not be in future plans, or at the very least, you have to plan as if he is not. Look at how the Browns screwed themselves betting on Josh Gordon. WR is now the key to the Steeler offense. AB is a stud, but who else? Wheaton is OK but he has not been something to fear. Coates is a great prospect and showed flashes but he is still an unklnown. WR is still something that needs to be addressed.

It is very possible that if they did not get a DB in RD1, that in RD 2 they will be looking at a pool of DBs who are all about the same as guys who can be had in RD 3 or 4. If that is the case then why draft an average DB when a guy lke Doctson may be sitting there?

I really like that Lowry as a late round steal

I hope they talk to Fuller the corner.

Yeah, I was hoping he might slide to us in R2.
