Steelers | Maurkice Pouncey could return soon

Tue, 15 Dec 2015 17:20:13 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (leg) may be able to return for the final two weeks of the regular season. Pouncey passed the eight-week threshold for the short-term Reserve/Injured list, meaning the Steelers could bring him back whenever they want, or not bring him back at all.

I'd go with the guys who got us here..
Pouncey can't be in any kind of game day shape, he hasn't even practiced since preseason, right?

I bet even in that condition he'd be a better backup than Hubbard

Sure, dress him as a backup.. I just meant as far as starters, stick with the current guys.

Don't believe it. Tomlin was asked at the press conference "Are you ruling Pouncey out for the regular season?". And he said "No, I'm not." This reporter took that response from Tomlin and wrote a misleading headline "Pouncey May Be Back Soon" to get clicks. Tomlin is just being coy with that response --- he continues to avoid giving any kind of legit update on Pouncey's condition. Why? Jim Wexell's opinion is that it undermines the "Next Man Up" philosophy to spend time talking about guys who aren't even close to playing.

There is no news until Pouncey starts practicing. And given that Wallace's play has been pretty good lately, Pouncey is going to have to practice for awhile (and look great doing it) before he sees the field.

You nailed it. Wallace has been better lately, and the OL has " jelled "

The Steelers have a lot of money invested in Pouncey. I'd let him heal before risking another injury. When it comes to major season ending injuries, I'm a three strikes type of guy as they can be tough to come back from. Pouncey's already on his second season-ending injury.

PS: Tomlin did get irked by Pouncey's social media posts a few weeks ago.

I agree with the above. If he is ready to practice/ take him off the list. Cut a stiff (Jacoby Jones) to make the room if you have to or even if you don't. Give him a hat as a back up when he is ready to play. No way you change the line at this point. I wouldn't care if he was Dermonti Dawson. Line play is about consistency and knowing what the man next to you can and will do.

Agree. I've always believed the offensive line that stays together as a group gets better as the season goes on, even if you aren't playing all your best players at the individual positions. Ben had a relatively clean shirt on Sunday versus what I had expected from what i felt was a very good DL. At least one sack he took I think he simply held the ball too long.

I read about two weeks ago that Tomlin was 'pleased" with how Pouncey looked in the workout facility. So at least he's training. I have not heard anything about on-field practicing.

Dated 12/8...

In addressing his four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All Pro, Tomlin said that Pouncey "looks great," after seeing Pouncey in the team's practice facility earlier in the day. But while Tomlin was optimistic when speaking about his center, he did not offer an update on Pouncey's condition and if he will return to the field this season or if the team qualifies for the playoffs.

Be careful with that. It was a case of Tomlin saying "I saw Pouncey earlier today and he looked great". Tomlin didn't say that he saw him lifting weights, swimming in the lap pool etc. As far as we know Pouncey was just in the darn building and he looked great because he just got a haircut. Tomlin was smirking when he said the "he looked great" part.

Also, Pouncey can start practicing without us cutting anyone. Short-term IR allows the guy to practice for a couple weeks before being put on the active roster. The ONLY reason Pouncey is not practicing is that he's not healthy enough to practice.

He also said he saw Leveon and he looked great...

Its pretty simple, if they weren't planning or HOPING for him to be back, he would have been placed on IR after the alleged second procedure. I hope the big fella comes back. Information has been very limited on him doing anything during practice but as the coach says, I can foresee a Pouncey return.

I'd like to say 'I trust the coaches' in this situation...but there have been so many times where I just scratch my bald-*** dome on the things Tomlin does... if Pouncey is ready and can play, I would expect to see him on the field.

I had his timeline set for next week to return to practice. That starts the 2 week window for the front and back end of his surgically repaired foot being healed.

I'd dress him in the last 2 games, if he is ready. We should be able to handle the switch against the Clowns and Ratbirds. Having him ready for the playoffs should be a benefit. I would not bring him in to start once the playoffs start. If he isn't ready to get a game or two before the playoffs, then I can't see throwing him in against a playoff team.

I think there is a lotof "gun jumping" going on. The man hasn't even practiced yet................................................. Think about that for a minute. Then realize he can practice a couplke of weeks before a decision has to be made. REGULAR season will be nearly over, but he may be good backup material for the POT SEASON run to the SB ooopppsss POST SEASON run to the SB.

Salute the nation

Would be nice if he comes back, that would mean solid depth on the interior line since he can play guard too.

He isn't going to play without practicing. But once the big fella hits the field, only thing taking him off of it is another injury. He's that damn good. Hope he's close to returning. It would be a huge boost to add a healthy Pouncey heading to the playoffs.

I give. What does smoke and mirrors have to do with Pouncy's return?

You'd have to think that Pouncey has been working in the weight room this whole time. The rest of his body should be rested and feeling good if the ankle is ready to go. No excuses if he isn't in shape to play. I wouldn't rush him into the lineup, but I'd have him ready to play if he is needed.

Like Cope - I felt that Sir Pouncey would return about Week 14 - that's this week - so, I wouldn't call it smoke and mirrors if we see him on the field for the last game of the regular season. ESPECIALLY if we have a chance to get into the post-season...
