Didn't you say because we don't know what their grading formula was its trash!
Oh, there is more to it than just being correct in assignment, making a difference and carrying out your assignment successfully I would think is part of the grade too.
What I have been saying, but you ignore, is that PFF uses a proprietary evaluation formula. It is based upon what THEY believe is the correct assignment for any given play. Yet, how can they objectively rate an assignment for a player when they can't see or know what the coaches play call parameters were for the player at that given time? Their proprietary is subjective, based on their own opinion as to what a play assignment is if the player is performing that assignment successively. Not from what the coaches know at that given time, as they are looking at their opponents play calling to get a preferable match up. Unless PFF is listening on the play calls as they are decided and know why that play is being used, it’s all a guessing game.
Sure they can say, RT on this play, should do a kick out on this play and runs the DE up the circle. But they play call at that time was actually for the RT to hand off the DE to the TE who breaks his route to crack back a block while the RT handles the stunting LB. PFF is going to grade it wrong, where as the actual play was assignment sound by the RT from the coaches view. PFF didn’t know what the actual play call rationale was for that down and distance, because they are not using the coaches rationale, only their own.
