Post combine and diva mock draft

What is the odds the Steelers could identify a lockdown corner and then develop him?

Too late IMO in Ben's career to be playing dice.

They are ****** at drafting corners so you go the free agent route. Two if you count Sens which wouldn't cost a lot.

If any position needs to be solid for a run it is corner. A rookie might take you two to three years to develop if they do at all.

At least with a free agent corner you know what you are getting.

I agree - but, Baker is a day 1 starter. He's seen way more talent and played in bigger games than Artie Burns.

And if they can pick up Chauncey from Florida at FS - watch out! The secondary will be dangerous!!!

My picks:

Round 1 Pick 20: Devin Bush, ILB, Michigan
Round 2 Pick 20: Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina
Round 3 Pick 2: Trayvon Mullen, CB, Clemson
Round 3 Pick 19: David Edwards, OT, Wisconsin.
Round 4 Pick 20: DeMarkus Lodge, WR, Ole Miss
Round 5 Pick 3: Isaiah Buggs, DL, Alabama
Round 6 Pick 1: David Sills, WR, West Virginia
Round 6 Pick 2: Benny Snell, RB, Kentucky
Round 6 Pick 19: Jamel Dean, CB, Auburn
Round 7 Pick 5: Terrill Hanks, LB, New Mexico State

Nice draft - here's my two cents again...

This year's draft is DEEP with WR's and knowing that taking one early could cost us on the defensive side of the ball where we struggle TERRIBLY.

Many here bash our HC but he's done nothing but improve the WR corp since he got here so I believe they'll find a nice selection somewhere between 4 and 7, and, yes, I'd draft two WR's this year too...

Don't get me wrong they should of course go BPA (for the most part)

, but make sure free agency a corner is signed. I feel like that is mandatory.

Coach, Greedy Williams HIGHLIGHT REEL is SUPPOSED to impress everyone!!!

Watch the full games. Brother, stop digging this hole. You do it every year and I'm only trying to help.

Greedy Williams = Artie Burns

End of story.

So Williams is Burns? That's funny, Burns looks lost on film and I said so. Williams in position to get the ball or break for it. And he's faster.

If someone has all the Williams targets, send the link and I can do a better eval.

Q
I still stand by bringing in a true lock down corner whether that be thru the draft or FA - our apple turnover ratio has been dismal lately...

I've been vocal in brining in Jaylen Ramsey with the Bell money not used, and some pushing back of contract by Ben if needed. As for the last part, yes our turnover ratio sucks, which is why a player like Greedy Williams makes sense.

Yes, Taller TE's are going to kill Bush in coverage. I also question how well Bush can shed players blocking him. Is he worth our pick at #20, if 3-4 guys we target are off the board, probably, but don't expect Shazier.

While the game can be fun, it's unrealistic. Allen is a top 5 pick. No way he slips to #20 overall, unless he robbed a McDonald's last night or got busted selling drugs.

Here Coach - use your computer to watch LSU vs. Georgia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z25FH9zL0qE

Spoiler alert - GA lost but just watch the DB play of Baker and Williams...

Watching LSU on defense and #29. He doesn't fight off blocks, in Q1, The Bulldogs held the end but ran and Williams was easily blocked out of the play by the receiver. However, he seems fine mirroring receivers and offers very little cushion, a sign he's confident and can run. I hate corners who give up short stuff because they are too slow or worried about getting beat deep.

Q1 over, lots of running by the Bulldogs. But when they pass Williams is on his man with good coverage.

When you say watching a game, okay I have seen LSU play this year, but to evaluate a player to the fullest, you need to watch him, NOT the game.

If you have his targets per game, I'll take that link. I'm out for now.

Ummmm, you can't watch the boy play without it being during a game...you're hilarious...

What were your thoughts on Baker?

More on Williams. I don't have data on his touch down passes given up for the season ( zero as of Nov 2, 2018 ), but below you can see his targets and the lack of competitions against with ZERO TD's passes given up as of Nov 2 2018. Impressive to me. Like I said, he's got some growing to do and needs to add 5-10 more pounds. At age 21 he can.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa has not thrown an interception this season. Greedy Williams is eager to change that.

LSU’s confident young cornerback broke out last season with six interceptions as a redshirt freshman. He’s playing even better in his second year, even with just two picks to show for it.

Quarterbacks have thrown at him 40 times this season, according to data compiled by Sports Info Solutions. Williams has given up a mere 11 catches through eight games. That completion rate — 27.5 percent — puts him No. 1 among all FBS defensive backs. He has yet to allow a touchdown pass.

And now he gets to face the Heisman Trophy front-runner who refuses to turn it over. If you’re a competitive quarterback, Williams argues, you want to throw at the best cover guys in college football. He says some QBs have that mentality but most don’t. He can’t wait to see what Tagovailoa has in store for him.

“Let’s see if...

You are missing my point. Yes, you can see all players a game, but if you're doing a full evaluation on a player, you watch him 1st and the game 2nd. DO we agree? I'll chat with you are you are better / seem to know more than most of the poster here.

I'm watching passes away from Williams, with the camera showing him on the side of the field him and he's and he looks solid in coverage. I love the fact he doesn't offer much of a cushion. He looks good in man or zone to me. Run defense, not so much.

Did you see the data I just posted on his lower completion per target?! Your reaction to that is what? I want to read your reply here.

No way is this man Artie Burns! That's a terrible comment. . Burns was lost in coverage and used his size and strength to make it happen for him. Williams is on his man and QB's have a tough time completing a pass against him. I suspect teams threw away from this sophomore by design. I'd love to see his target stats per season vs. the average SEC corner. I bet they are lower.

I do agree with you on Murphy no being worth our first round pick. He's a little slow, rail thin, and let's face it the Pac 10 is not close to the SEC.

I think Murphy can be a solid #2 corner, ideally picked in round two and teams would need to be careful not matching him with a speed WR or a physical WR.

Thanks bro - but I challenged Coach to watch 2-3 games on Baker. I gave him this one. Waiting to see what he comes back with...

There's only so much time in the day. Watching 2-3 games takes many hours. I have seen Baker play. He's a senior. He's a solid across cross the board type. I said he might be the safest pick at corner.

On the minus side, he's an inch or shorter shorter than ideal, and a 4.52 forty is just all right. Baker did not run a shuttle or cone drill at the combine. I want to see a sub 4.2 20 yard shuttle.

I think he will have more match up issues vs. speed WR's or taller WR's than Williams will. Remember Williams was just as sophomore, and is a 21 with a Dec birthday. Baker was a senior, who played 4 seasons, so of course he's more polished. I see Baker as a solid #2 starting corner in the NFL. He could be a good #1 corner in a zone based coverage scheme with safety help.

I would not be disappointed if the Steelers picked Baker at pick #20. I just think ( Hope ) there will be D. White, G. Williams, or Metcalf are on the board at pick #20.

Jarvis Jones had a **** ton of awesome highlights.
If we were picking guys who could make highlights, Jarvis would be enshrined in Canton by now.

the more I read about Baker and Williams, the more Baker is like Haden and Williams is like Jimmy Smith of the Ravens.

Let's play a game, Cooch.

Who's The Better Prospect
CB 1
4.46 40
grabs a lot
checked in at 6'0"
Has soft hands
Baits the QB into making throws

CB2
4.57 40
Struggles to support the run
Under 6'0"
Loses the ball sometimes
Gambles a lot

CB3
4.52 40
Under 6'0"
can be grabby

My picks:

Round 1 Pick 20: Devin Bush, ILB, Michigan

I think Bush would be a huge upgrade at LILB, but wonder if the CB need is just too significant to ignore. Yes, I get that Tomlin has drafted and developed exactly zero CB's, but one very good CB in round 1 (Murphy and Baker likely available) to pair with Haden, and go ILB round 2, and WR with Oakland's 3.

Murphy or Baker round 1, Germaine Pratt round 2? Pratt is not an accomplished LBer in terms of pass coverage, but has decent enough speed and change-of-direction to play zone in the middle of the field, is big enough and maneuverable enough not to be swallowed up by offensive lineman, and not so slow and stilted to be abused by RB's and TE's in the pass game.

If things are equal you pick a ILBer over a CB. Steelers will have to bring in a free agent corner regardless. Plus IMO their greatest weakness was in coverage at the ILBer position.

If it isn't equal you pick of course BPA.

Okay, I can buy that. And the criticism of Bush being "too small" is pretty funny. If the guy was 6'2", 250 lbs. and ran a 4.43 40, 40.5" vertical, 124" broad jump, 21 reps, who the @#$% believes he would make it to pick #20?!?

If I had a heavy bag in my garage I'd be re-arranging the stuffing out of it, but since I don't how about a post combine and diva mock draft.

1 ) Corner Back, Greedy Wiliams. I'd like Metcalf, but I think he's off the board at this point. Williams ball skills, height, and speed, and instincts are things you can't coach.

2 ) Inside linebacker, Mack Willson. An instant upgrade from who we have starting, Wilson is a 3 down linebacker type.

3A) Wide Receiver, Terry McLaurin. A taller speed WR is exactly what we need.

3B ) Defensive back, Isaiah Johnson. I like him at free safety or corner. The new theme at DB should be speed and playmaking ability.

4 ) Inside linebacker, Ben Burr-Kirven. Ultra-productive with eye-opening combine numbers.

5 ) Kicker, Cole Tracy. The best of the kickers in the draft, at least he has confidence.

6 ) BPA DL/Edge
6 ) BPA DL/Edge
6) BPA P
7 ) BPA DB

I like this overall, but not one but TWO drafted kickers? I can't say I even like one FG or P drafted, unless they are really special. With all our needs, I think we need to stick to drafting real players. We honestly have needs at:

1.) ILB.
2.) CB.
3.) Safety (but team won't admit it)
4.) WR.
5.) RT
6.) DL
7.) RB
8.) TE

Dang, that's a lot.

I agree, Bush moved into my top want. That I think could be available. As I think White won't be. When it is all said and done Bush could very well be the better player.
