Possible Government Shutdown

remember how the Dems were playing the popular vote angle for Hillary?

now that the popular vote is not FOR a government shutdown, they shut the **** up.

I have been exempted from furlough due to my emergency essential status as a LAR. So I am good to go. For now, anyway.

I keep hearing how popular DACA is, something like 87% of Americans favor it, so you think I would know SOMEONE that supported it. I don't.

I figure we might as well do it, they're already here. But first we have to make sure that the border is secure and we don't have to go thru this crap again in another 5 or 10 years. Build the wall first.

Here is a link there are many out there confirming this. Many illegals come from Caribbean islands, do you think they swim to Mexico
and cross the border. This is the reason they want to stop work visas for Haitians, too many of them are running off and staying.

The vast majority of illegals are from Mexico and Central America. The vast majority of illegals live in California, Arizona and Texas.

Do you think Illegal Airlines flies only from Mexico and Central America? And lands only in California, Arizona and Texas??

Schumer's shut down becomes Trump's triumph.

Glad it is over, but I still think Republicans will cave in the end and give the Democrats DACA. And when that happens, Sarge will never vote for a Republican ever again.

This was a big nothingburger from the very start of the weekend.

WAY too much time by main stream media on this. Very minor blip in the scheme of things (always is, always will be). It's basically political roshambo and it should be treated as such watching it (in other words, laugh your *** off as they make ***** of themselves).

Will Sarge vote for a Democrat instead?

I guess I'm biased but I think Republicans won this round.

DACA is not being done "by itself" and still has significant strings attached to it by the Trump administration and congressional Republicans in order to get passed.

My hopes that DACA gets done in one big legislation that includes totally revamping immigration policy (merit based vs. family connection based) is one step closer to reality. In that regard, I'm happy today.

I would say make our immigration laws reciprocal with every other nation. Whatever your laws are for an American to legally move and work in your country is what our laws will be for your citizens to legally live and work here. Which pretty much leaves out Mexico.

The crazy thing about this whole immigration argument is that going to a merit based system would actually VASTLY favor illegals that have been living and working in the U.S. over the last two decades and move them way up the list.

If you have a job already, that helps in a merit based system. If you speak English, that helps in a merit based system. If you have a person in the country to vouch for you (or employer or boss), that helps in a merit based system.

The law of supply and demand will still mean we bring in low-skill workers (especially in California). You just have to use a merit based system to decide who gets in to fill the quota you want to set as a country or state. And all these current illegals (at least the good ones) should have a leg up on everyone currently in Mexico or elsewhere.

so, they caved

"It's Morally Reprehensible: Liberals Livid With Senate Dems Over Shutdown Deal"

Progressives and immigrant advocates are furious at Senate Democrats for agreeing to end a short-lived shutdown without any guarantee that they’ll win protections for undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as youngsters, seeing it as a full-scale capitulation by the party.

The majority of Senate Democrats voted Monday for a bill to fund the government through Feb. 8, less than three days after standing together to force a short-lived government shutdown. In doing so, they managed only to secure a promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that he’d allow them to bring the DREAM Act to the floor for a vote if no deal is reached before then.

The deal infuriated the left-wing groups and immigration advocates who had cheered their Friday stand — with many warning of recriminations, the first major schism on the left since President Trump’s election.

“It’s morally reprehensible and political malpractice. It’s [Senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer’s job to keep his caucus together and stand up for progressive values and he failed on both fronts,” Ezra Levin, a leader of the Indivisible Project, told TPM shortly after the vote. “We’re going to be holding the Democrats accountable who caved.”

Democrats caved on the shutdown, and they’re admitting it

Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.), a potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate:

“I don’t believe he made any commitment whatsoever and I think it would be foolhardy to believe he made a commitment.” Cc: Democratic leadership.

Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) says she’s “very disappointed” in deal because there’s no guarantee House will pass fix to help Dreamers.

"It's Morally Reprehensible: Liberals Livid With Senate Dems Over Shutdown Deal"

Limbaugh was positing today that Chuckie and most of the other Dems in Congress aren't really as far left as their base is but the base is where the money and legwork comes from.
This is fun to watch.

The only people I know with favorable DACA opinions are my own two daughters who have classmates from as far back as elementary school who are here under this bogus program. They are very emotional about it. I tell them it's on their parents not the American people that they should be sent back.

As I said, it’s Trump being Trump. Negotiations by walking away. The other party caved.
