Porter served notice.......

You like you some troll huh? Need attention?
I see. So you’re of the belief that the Pittsburgh Geriatrics, coached by Chef Boyardee, a fatty who hasn’t won sh*t in 15 years, and a GM who is incapable of drafting talent, not to mention the oldest QB in the league, who was old and sucked balls last year, is somehow going to equate to us being a threat?

Mmkay.

New HC, new coaching staff why not wait and see how it unfolds?

Mmkay.

On the plus side, our roster is sh*t whether we have him or not.
This is not accurate.

We won our division last season with this roster AND one of the 3/4 worst coaching staffs in the league. There are some quality players on our roster. Really, the makings of a decent squad. The 'issue' with our roster isn't that it is crap, it is that it is unbalanced. And as much as I hated Tomlin we can't blame all of that on him. Most, but not all.

Someone else mentioned that the organization understood that Tomlin and Co couldn't develop a skill player if their lives depended on it. That is a major contributing factor to how our roster is so out of whack. Khan et al had to scrape together a group of older vets who were (are) seasons past their prime to be competitive. Then they overvalued certain players for whatever reason and presto we have a massively overpaid Watt, Heyward, and others.

I would absolutely trade Watt before I gave up on signing JPJ. The kid can play at a key position. Watt has faded badly each of the past two seasons which is a very real indicator that he's on his way downhill. Of course, we can argue whether he's been used correctly, the effectiveness of the defensive scheme, etc. Mr. Watt was the highest paid non-qb in the NFL last season. And that got us 11 sacks. 8th in the league.

It looks like you may be right -- Spotrac (what I was referencing) and OTC have very different numbers, but looking at OTC it seems that the Dolphins may have already eaten a lot of that dead cap money. Hopefully those are the true figures, and if that's the case, I'd be OK with re-upping Porter in the low 20s. But making him the highest-paid cornerback in the entire league as @SteelerSask2 suggests would still be a mistake. Porter has had one half of one very good season...let's not go crazy here.
Im not stating whether they should or not. Im stating they will. And it isn't that he is necassarily the best. Its just the price of rice. Ive looked at his numbers vs. the highest paid. Its comparable. His not giving up a TD is pretty huge. Now Id argue that was somewhat a product of the defense. Tomlin was not big on Cover 1 and zero. So he had help. Im not sure how far it will exceed 30. But it will be a hell of a lot closer to 30 then 20. Bank on that.

We backed into the division by 1 point in the last regular season game because our opposition was weak. We did not dominate with a 10-7 record.

Yes, only the NFC East had fewer wins than AFC North (even NFC South with an 8-9 division winner still managed one more win than AFC North), only two second placed teams apart from Baltimore had a losing record and four second place and one third place team had a better record than the Steelers.

Art doesn’t give 2 ***** about SBs

Pay the man, it’s not like they’ll be paying top QB money any time soon.

By the time they get one in place (on tha 2nd contract) Watt will be done and who are they building the D around at that point?

Had to check the date to see if this was 4-1 post
“in 27 in the very important QB draft”
Yep…next years draft is always where the Steelers QB is hiding, maybe that’s why these April fools still don’t have one.

Meet at the bar tomorrow, there’s a free beer special tomorrow!!! I saw the sign

Wise words in the midst of this post.

I want them to come away with a QB that actually has a chance to make starter.

Most are saying pick a throw away and see if you get lucky……….

The higher the smoker the higher the cost and when you have no franchise QB, I’d spend the cost to try on a legitimate prospect.

2nd / 3rd round make the pick because you have a chance.

Going through season after season with a Geriatric, is no way to spend those seasons / careers of others.

Tomlin’s Steelers did what Tomlin’s Steelers do…

They were dangerously average and able to make the most of the rest of the division missing their starting QBs and barely squeezed into the playoffs given all the fortunate breaks that went their way.

Then they did what everyone but the most blind eyed, optimistic Steeler fans thought they would do and opened another Tomlin can of post season SUCK.

They were who we thought they were.

I would double dip at QB this and every subsequent year until they find a guy…the continuity of waiting til next year is such a flawed strategy.

Take one in the 2-3 range be it Beck, Nuss or whoever their guy is AND then throw another late round flyer at a pure developmental guy and see if McCarthy can work some magic.

If Howard or a late round guy can’t cut the mustard vs the earlier pick or 🤮 Rodgers/Rudy then ps it is for them.

Howard has earned nothing thus far other than a chance imho, his presence shouldn’t affect the draft strategy more than that they shouldn’t draft 3 this year.

Exactly, we took a "year off" last year by signing the Geriatric. Grant it was under the superior leadership of a coach & staff who is no longer here (thank you).

Why take another year off, we have a much more QB developer as a HC and should be swinging for the fence.

WE HAVE GREAT DRAFT CAPITAL TO MERIT A 2ND OR 3RD, use it.

Frustrating as hellA, but also somewhat entertainment in a twisted way.

Peyote Bound......................

The main difference going forward is that now the Steelers have a head coach who knows what he's doing in evaluating quarterbacks. The last guy had no clue.

You can pretend that 2027 isn't going to be a good draft for quarterbacks, but right off the bat you have Arch Manning and Dante Moore coming out with an additional year of college experience -- those two guys were a big reason why 2026 was previously thought to be a good year for QBs. Next year, they'll be entering the draft without a doubt, older and more seasoned, and they will both be potential franchise quarterbacks.

Moore wasn't even on the preseason radar last year. It was Manning, Nussmeier, Allar, Sellers, Mendoza, Beck, Klubnik, Green, and Leavitt. Moore, Simpson, and Mateer caught attention during the season, but they weren't preseason favorites as top draft picks. As we saw it play out, virtually every one of those prospects either didn't develop or regressed.

No, he just wasn’t on your radar. Moore was the Gatorade player of the year in Michigan. As a freshman, if you would’ve seen his first completion at UCLA, you’d have known he was worth keeping in mind. I can see it in my head right now. So yes, he was on some peoples’ monitors. Unfortunately, the Chip Kelly show took over. Moore transferred to where he initially committed, Oregon. Thank god for Dan Lanning, quarterback rescuer and zany offensive scientist.

I must've missed Moore's name in the dozens of QB draft rankings articles I read ahead of the 2025 college season.

Oh, and now Mendoza says he won't be in Pittsburgh for the draft even though he will be the first pick. Hey James Harrison....sack his @ss!

I never stated or implied that we 'dominated' anything. I agree, we 'backed in' IN SPITE of having one of, if not THE, worst coaching staffs in the NFL.

My points:

* we do have SOME very good players on the roster
* we also have some old, overpaid players on the roster
* a talented coaching staff 'could' move forward with the players on our roster AND
* compete for and maybe even win our less than stellar division

All of which points to signing JPJ rather than letting him walk.

It’s irrelevant. There’s only a handful of situations where being undiscovered or under the radar has value. Those situations are the transitions: from H.S. to college, transfer portal, college to the draft and free agency. Now, Moore is relatively known.

No mention of Maiava from USC? 22 years old and I think the decision to return should help him develop. He’s a guy I will be watching as well. He started off great then faded. We will see.
