When the hell did Lebeau ever us 2DL the majority of a game, and then we close the score to 20-17, we have one timeout, you know they are going to run and try to kill clock we still use ******* only 2DL and they gash us For thrthirty yards and kill 3minutes of game time.

Last week Denver would go 3 WR, and we'd stayin our daman base defense resulting in one of our LB's on a damn WR.

At least Lebeau would've blitzed more.

You have no idea WTF you are talking about. This is Tomlin's and Butler's scheme. They are playing Tomlin's Tampa 2 ZONE defense.

We get crap for pressure with the pass rush and that zone 2 is as bad as it gets. We are much better off pressing hard at the line and taking our chances. We are getting KILLED in the middle of the field each week by anyone. And if the team has a good TE he has a field day.

Heres what blows me away. Last week we switched the defense up in the second half to a more in your face pressure defense and pitched a shut out. This week we start with the same D we were getting torched with last week, and we stuck with it the whole game. Why not try what was working last week especially against a new QB??

To be honest I don't know how we even win 8 games with this defense. It is a joke. We do nothing year in and year out to try to improve it. Even if we do make the playoffs what chances do we really have with our up and down offense.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the Tampa 2 a D that relies on a front FOUR to get pressure and apply tight coverage with the 7 other guys? We don't run a 4-3 so I don't see how this can be even remotely true. The safeties maybe be playing two deep, but that is where the similarities end.

You're talking about a Tampa 2 base defense. That's like saying that a prevent defense is played from a 3-4 defense. It can be but it doesn't have to be. The 3-4 usually rushes 4 anyway. They just use a LB to rush the edge instead of a DL. They use Timmons or Shazier to drop into coverage which makes a cover 2 or a cover 3. It allows the defense to look into the backfield and take areas or zones which are smaller. Every team in the league run a version of it regardless if they play a 3-4, 4-3 or any variant of those.

What we need is a young black coach for the D aka Tomlin's replacement. We already have to many white coaches with Munch (doing great), Haley (doing pretty damn good) and Butler (in the corner trying to make lemonade). Handcuffed by their own rule the Rooney's have to replace Tomlin with another minority. Given our propensity to promote from within we need to promote J Peezy to asst Head Coach/ LB coach.

After our D gets scorched next year maybe J Peezy takes over as D coordinator, then maybe 1-2 years til he can take over for capt cool shades. We needed an exit strategy from Tomlin, but gave him an extension.

Butler I think shows potential, but unfortunately has to try to play an antiquated scheme lacking the proper players to execute it.

What do the Steelers call the defense that has only 2 defensive linemen on the field? 2-5-4? It seems that defense was employed quite a bit yesterday as well with very little success.
