Try to make it semi-realistic.

Feel free to do your own rounds of wants. You can do as many rounds as you wish.

I only know guys in the first round for the most part. I would make no arguement with your first round guys. Washington is a luxury not a need. I dont think you could really go wrong with any of the others. Payne being a nose I see as less of a need than mlb or safety. Im not ready to give up on Hargrave though his second season was dissapointing. This team will badly need a coverage inside linebacker. Get it in FA or draft but it is a distinct need.

Yes staring at who is available and who I think will be off the board. I keep thinking free agency will be our ILber-huckleberry.

PS, I do know that FA acquisition(s) could change need dramatically pending upon acquisition. AND isn't Griffen a ILB or SS type guy and what does he weigh??? anyone?

One I saw I loved was LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH he looks like a beast and would shore up the middle for years.

Fine but too risky IMO in RD 1. I took him to RD 3 as I docked him for every question mark.

Yes he looks like a ILB, little bigger than his brother who is a S.

Sort of a hybrid-tweener with speed.

I know he has a handicap but I like his willpower/ determination. D could use someone like that inject some emotion into that unit.......

I wonder if he will have tackle problems, but so far nothing has held this back.

He has more heart then 1/2 the "D" combined............................ I'll be glad if we get him and I think his tackling will be just fine as he has his method of overcoming that handicap. SPEED is amazing and his stregnth seems right up there as well, KEEPER

I am more worried about him getting off blocks more than having tackling issues.

Although at times it isn't unrealistic to think he will struggle with both.

Really want the kid to make it though...........

Kerryon Johnson from Auburn looks like an interesting mid-round prospect for a RB.

I don't think the Steelers will retain LeVeon Bell....so he would be a nice replacement if he's available!

The more information that comes in and the more I see, the more the list changes. What happens to Bell impacts the draft. And of course, there is free agency. I hate picking DB's until they work out.

Inside Linebacker Evans
Inside Linebacker Vander Esch
Safety Reid
Defensive Tackle Nose Tackle Payne

Rd 5 )

Offensive tackle Cappa
Punter Dickson

Rd 7 ) BPA DB or OLB

say which ones on your list did you watch clips of?

:boink:

BTW Coach no way do I take a one year wonder with a injury history from a small school in 1. That has a high ceiling for bust potential. Reid seems like a round 2 type. Was thinking of adding him to the want list. Been wavering on it. And no way do I want a punter in 5. With more urgent needs at T/RB/WR/G/S/CB/OLB/ILB....

While I worry about one-year wonders, Vander Esch's combine performance impressed me to the point where I have no questions about his physical ability. Just a hunch he's a smart player with good football character.

I was not sure about his speed, strength, or agility prior to combine...he proved they were excellent. With that combine performance and nickel linebackers becoming more of a need, he could be a top 20 pick.

Evans didn't work out...why?

As for Punter, Berry is bottom of the barrel. The Texas kid is once in 5 drafts type of prospect at punter. A good punter is want a leaky defense needs. Berry rated 31st overall. If we had say a top 5 punter we'd probably get back about 150 yards in net and get a guy who can kick us out of trouble.

Reid just ran a 4.44! I tend to doubt he's there for us in round two. Let's see how he works out...I'm okay with him in round one if the top LB's, Payne and S's are off the board as say my 5th choice.

Reid is he runs well could be a late first round pick. I tend to doubt he's there for us in round two. Let's see how he works out...

I read somewhere he is still recovering from a groin? If true that could factor in on why he didn't.

I am back n forth with Evans. Might prefer him in 2. Not that he would last to our second round pick.

Esch looks like the part athletically. But can rise to the level of competition? Can he stay healthy? In his one good year why was he inconsistent? He still has some question marks. For me too many for a round one prospect.

If you want to play con with Evans, the Alabama DL is beastly, and can make it easier for a ILB like Evans to shine. So you have to ask how would be look on say an average SEC team.

Being on a great team is also a knock.

Possibly all gets factored in. His statistics aren't bad but they aren't eye popping either.

Not that I think he will bust, but he might just be an above average ILber. I prefer a little higher ceiling.

I heard the S Harrison didn't participate either due to a sore hammy.

Perhaps Evans and Harrison will workout on Bama's pro days..............

In regards to LVE,

First- No idea how you can make that assumption about his character/smarts. That Jowell kid, maybe.

Second- His results were good, but certainly not excellent. He also didnt look super smooth in those drills.

Oh those results are excellent. Not good, but excellent. I bet his SPARQ rating is in the high 90's, meaning he tested better than 90% of players drafted at his position.

As for his football smarts, the guy is described as having a virtual radar to where the ball is and where it is going.

I seldom have access to character reports or wonderlic, but I do think you can judge a play a bit by how he interviews to the press.

One thing you have to remember here is the defensive staff is on very thin ice, could possibly be their last draft. Top picks will be a safety, ILB, and probably a three down te, not in that order. We come out of this draft with a way to slow down and or stop drunkcowski or we will be look8ng at new coaches. That being said I wouldn’t be surprised that if LVE is there when we draft, we take him. That being the key. Many of the guys on everyone’s wish list will probably be gone. LVE could probably help plug the gap against the run and maybe slow down tes running slants with a safety or db over the top. Maybe even pass rush up the gut on a crisscross blitz don’t know but he’s on the Steelers list and will get a serious look.

trade back and get both reid and vander esch (sp?)

OK, Coach, you've been bashing Barry for 2 years now. A year after saying Monday WAS the better punter, before he suited up in training camp, and you were dead wrong. So what makes a great punter to you? I want your quantification, because you have mine, and I've written articles on it. What makes a good punter?
