By: Logan Leslie SteelerNation.com* After signing a quality Cornerback to play opposite Joe Haden the Steelers have a much less glaring need at the position with the draft approaching. With 10 total draft picks and 4 in the top 100 the Steelers have the ammunition to make a draft day trade and land their next […]

Would not trade up for Metcalf let alone draft him at 20.

Bush I am ok with 5 spots, no more than that.

I think anything more than 5 spots would be very costly for a team with many needs.

Hockenson, White. I’m in favor of trading up for either of them. The only true Blue Chipper/high floor-high ceiling guys in this draft.

Surely you jest???

If we could land Q. Williams at DT...chyt!!!

Which one of the four would take if all were available 1.20 ???

1) Bush
Metcalf
2). Butler (slash had good info on him) WR
3) Q. Williams

I know I am NOT an expert but I did a little research on Metcalf and decided I'd pass till second round if I didn't get WR 1st.

Williams and it isn't even close.

Us trading up? I'd like to see it for the right player, it was VERY successful the 2X we have done it...

Bush, with as much as we only use 2 DL, what's the point of drafting a guy like Q Williams?

Well the Steelers would have to change their scheme. But Williams would make that D instantaneously better.

The point would be with being able to apply up front pressure more consistently. Which would make the corners look better, and give the D a fighting chance to be top 5 on a regular basis.

A guy like that would force the coaching staff to put him on the field, even despite their stubborness to stay with what they are trying to do out there right now...

Don't get me wrong, he's a great player, but our dline group is the strongest group on D, LB is probably the weakest group, yet we still constantly throw 4 LBs on the field with only 2DL.

Excellent question! Personally, I go with Q. Williams - stopping the run and pressuring the QB starts on the interior...

My point is with only 2 DLINEMEN, he'll
1. Be rotated out alot
2. It's easy to double our Dlinenmen when there's only 2 of them

I can't argue with that. One thing that Coach Butler has shown is the ability to put the best players on the field and adjust on the fly.

Many disagree with the above statement; but adding a blue chipper like Williams would give us reminders of the good ol' days on defense.

Just my opinion.

If I knew we'd change our scheme to use 3 Dlinenmen instead of 2 the majority of the time, I'm right there with you, would love that pick, but as is now in our current scheme a ILB like Bush will probably double the snaps Williams would.
Like I've said before, our best/most talented group on defense is our Dlinenmen, our weakest group is LB, but we still use 4 LBs most of the time and only 2 DLINEMEN. We need our talent on the field

I would agree with that assessment until you factor in Cool Shades. This "D" is his and we can see the deficiencies at hand. Fully agree if Butler's hands weren't tied.

Not sure I agree with Butlin being able to adjust on the fly.

Maybe adjust their fly, watching the playoffs go bye.

But yeah.

I'll put this here seeing how we talked about the guy a lot.

James Palmer

@JamesPalmerTV
D.K. Metcalf also improved his 3 cone. At the Combine he had one of the slowest times (7.38) and today he told me he was clocked at 7.2

D.K. Metcalf improved his shuttle today. At the Combine he ran a 4.50 (one of the lowest among WRs). today a 4.3

I'm to lazy to look up but how does that compare him to other's combine times??? My assertations were due to those slow times. If the STEELERS were really interested, I'd bring him in and run those drills again, on my field to ascertain a better feel for those hips. (Not saying anything negative of his pro day, just different field for evaluation)

it was definitely slower than most...

for reference - Oliver ran a 4.22 short shuttle and a 7.5 3-cone....

Thanks Coolie and yes, OLIVER will go top ten and I knew he was fast for his position. As for Metcalf, he is a talent but our needs are bigger than him alone. slash mentioned WR Butler and he looks pretty dang good too. Even with Metcalf's new and improved times. I still take a pass on him due to us having an ILB major need that merits moving up in need be.

with Ed Oliver you would have a deadly 4-3 that has lenth and speed
De Tuitt
NG Heyward
3T Oliver
DE Dupree
OLB Watt
MLB Williams
OLB rookie

Bermuda thinks D.K. Metcalf is a one trick pony. His slow times in the cone and shuttle prove that he doesn't run routes well...
