Play in OT where Ben was strip sacked

Most QBs fall on the ball and protect the ball first. Ben tried to make a play and it cost us possession.

Most every bad play turnover by Ben is a result of him trying to make something happen instead of taking what they give you and move on. Live by the gunslinger mentality, die by it too. This has always been my beef with him, we don’t have to have a TD on every snap of the ball.

It was a low snap. You want him to just fall on a low snap instead of catching it and throwing it???? If someone blocks their best pass rusher it's all good. You guys make it sound like the ball was rolling around on the ground, he never lost the ball, it was under 2.5 seconds from snap to strip.

Not an excuse but the weather was ****. Hard to see into the lights with it raining and a sloppy field.

Didnt we lead the league in sacks last year?

Yes but those were mostly scheme sacks, meaning blitzes that take away from coverage. If you look at that browns play, it’s not even a blitz. They only rushed 5. The design was not to get a free rusher, but to make sure the DEs were single blocked, giving them a chance to make a play.

Too often, the steelers pass rushers have not won those individual matchups. If this defense is to go to the next level, they need guys winning these matchups. If they can consistently get pressure with 5, it makes the coverage much better.

Had JC chip blocked - Ben could have worked over to AB...

Conner couldn’t chip on the DE. Watch the MLB fake a blitz up the middle. Blitz up the middle is Conner’s first responsibility and he stepped up to make that block. Then the MLB dropped into coverage so Conner then released into his route because he was out of position to help on the DE.

The DE just won too quickly for Conner to do anything once he was occupied by the fake blitz up the middle.

That is football. Play breaks down and receivers get wide open and pass rushers run free. All protection angles change. The heartbreaking video is your big contract field goal kicker missing an under 45 yard field goal.

In a monsoon on a saturated field, because Tomlin and Randy never made an serious attempt to get the ball closer. “We don’t live in our fears” again lived in his fears.
