Pirates Opening Day

Saw the highlights. Looked like a great day to go to the ballpark and a great reception for the new guy.

I don't keep up with the Pirates anymore so I am not familiar with the players. Is Cruz a weak link in the field or just having a rough start to the season?

Right now, both. But he will not be a weak link for too much longer, I think. The fact is that Cruz is not an intuitive CF right now and needs as much time in the outfield as possible to improve. His issue is that he did not get much time in CF this spring due to the world baseball thing, and because he is so fast he sometimes intrudes into areas that the LF or RF can and should handle.

His fielding will improve. His approach to and results when facing LH pitching is the real story - he is killing lefty pitching so far. He hits lefties like this, he will be a huge offensive force. He is going to K a lot, that's just the way he is and the way baseball is right now, but he could well be a guy with 35 2B's, 30 HR, 40 SB. Will he hit just .230? Probably. But if he registers XBH like I think he will, no problem really.
