Pickett to the Browns

Lloyd I asked AI if the Rooneys influenced the pick of Big Ben

DID DAN ROONEY INFLUENCE THE STEELERS DRAFTING OG BIG BEN?

"Yes, Dan Rooney influenced the Pittsburgh Steelers' decision to draft Ben Roethlisberger in the 2004 NFL Draft, specifically over the more likely pick of Shawn Andrews. The Steelers had initially considered drafting Shawn Andrews, an offensive tackle, but Rooney steered the conversation towards Roethlisberger, who was later selected 11th overall"

We did get a HOF QB out of it....Lloyd, can give the Rooneys a pass for going 50% success rate? I mean we got a Hall of Famer out of it
I never complained on Rooneys choosing Ben, it was obviously the right choice. But following up with Pickett? Set us back 5 years. And they don't brag about that choice.

Why would they brag about misses? They are hunting for QBs that class was weak but they still tried to swing.

Most rookie QBs struggle and a 7-9 TD / INT ratio is not bad for a rookie QB. Especially considering the Tomlin / Canada handicap. Pickett also had a winning record here which should not be overlooked. Pickett was doing better in his 1.5 games post Canada but was not given a shot after that. To say he put the team back 5 yrs is ridiculous. Tomlin is in love w/ old washed up QBs like Wilson and Rodgers. I get trying Wilson out he was very cheap, but the odds of us resigning him were slim. We only got Fields because Pickett bailed. We could have started 2024 w/ Pickett and drafted or picked up a backup. Drafting Pickett did not set the team back years, the failure to develop players and any sort of real offense is what is setting the team back.

Not that it makes any difference now, but I believe any QB would be hamstrung in the current Steelers offensive philosophy of no turnovers, including KFP. My fondest moment is when he ignored Oh Canada resulting in 6, the look on Canada's face was priceless. I have no hate for Kenny and he played no part on where he was drafted. I hope he gets a chance with a real OC and HC and does well.
There are many reasons to question Kenny's skill level in 2025:

A.) He doesn't seem to have a feel on where to throw the ball. Over 50% of that is Clown-lin's fault.
B.) He gets scared too quickly and bails out on the play before he truly has to. The play ends up in a sack too often.
C.) He doesn't see wide open receivers, just doesn't notice them.
D.) He's fragile. A few of the hits that knocked him out where a stiff breeze.

Like you, I don't wish bad things for him but we should never have drafted him. And Clown-lin compounded issues.

They should have, but Art was the force that mandated that they choose Kenny, no one else. Of course, it's hard to find proof that Art called the shots on Kenny being the pick but had it worked out we'd be hearing about it just like when the Rooneys chose Ben.
I don't know, a lot of reports around the time said Colbert wanted to leave the Steelers with their next franchise QB.

So let's say Pgh doesn't draft KP. 2022-2024 don't get wasted to start. That's 3 wasted years right there. Rooney was the only team who was gonna take KP in the 1st round that year. That was a failure. And have we stopped wasting time, yet? If Rogers finally signs and does nothing, another wasted year, up to 4. What's on tap for #5? Progress? Or more F'in around with Clown-lin and company? Or haven't you noticed the treadmill yet? Running in place, 9-7. Gee whiz, doesn't it feel great?

Great post ZonaBurgh, appreciate yaz.!

I feel near the same way. I don’t wish bad on him or any Ex-player, but also realize they are gone so hardly follow them other than an occasional glance.

Pickett was only here for two years. Nothing stopped the Steelers from making a trade to take a QB in last year's draft.

If you read the Cowher biography, he states that story is overblown. IIRC the talk about Andrews was before Ben dropped. Once he dropped to 11, there was no argument against drafting him that Rooney had to counter.

Dude, Stop. If The Steelers don't draft KP you'd be on here bitching and moaning about "Clown-lin" sticking with Mitch and Mason and not drafting a QB which set the Steelers back 3-4 years.

What if they sign Rogers?
Lloyd: "Should have stuck with Mason, Clown-lin SUCKS!!"

What if they stick with Mason?
Lloyd: "Should have signed Rogers, Clown-lin SUCKS!!"

What if they start Howard?
Lloyd: "Should have drafted Sanders, Clown-lin SUCKS!!"

blah blah blah...you're a broken record. You have all the answers, if only Art Deuce would hire you as a consultant, they'd be champions in no time at all.

Bleeder is spot on, you're a 🤡

You’d still have Cllowyd-Lin SUCKS as an end product.

Say Pittsburgh doesn't draft KP. What makes you think the alternatives would have done any better? Remember, Trubisky was the plan for starter for 2022 even after Pickett was drafted, and if Pickett wasn't drafted Rudolph would have been the primary backup.

So we’re “set back” for years that haven’t even happened yet from KFP when not missing any draft capital or cap space from KFP? There are literally zero remnants of that selection and you’re suggesting KFP is the reason they’ll be average this year…c’mon we all know they’ll be average, but can’t blame that on KFP this year.

Please explain how that miss will be holding us back this year and next…just kidding

No need to try
