It's basically just accepted that Rivers is going to the HOF. Why? Because he played pretty well for a long time? Did he ever win an MVP? Lead the league in passing? Win big playoff games? Win a Super Bowl?

Maybe we can put Kerry Collins in the HOF too. Why not? He is currently 19th all time in career passing yards. One spot ahead of Joe Montana. And he led a team to a Super Bowl.

Maybe Bledsoe needs to be in there too. 16th overall career passing and also made it to a SB. Carson Palmer is 13th and Vinny Testaverde is 14th.

How about Joe Flacco. Currently 22nd all time and only 484 yards behind Joe Montana. Flacco also won a Super Bowl.

The point is nobody is going to push any of these guys for the HOF. They were all guys who were mostly solid, played a long time and compiled some stats. So why the love for Rivers?

There is so much more passing now that mediocre guys are going to obliterate all time great statistically. Let's start the pushback now on these stat compilers who were good but never great.

Same goes for Frank Gore. Good for you, you played a million years and keep compilinig stats but good is not great.

Chargers had that game, prevent defense let Raiders march down the field with 2 min left

What about the ONLY quarterback who has 2 SB wins and yet is not in the HOF? If Rivers can get in shouldn't he? Maybe it's the children differential factor..........

If there is a draft kings fantasy football Hall of fame old Philly should get a whinny face bust. Otherwise not a chance. He has been on at least two probably three VERY good teams with big defense and numerous weapons and never advanced beyond AFC champ games. Last year was his year. They should have all they needed and got **** pumped in Foxboro.

Agreed. He's a good, not great.

Try to remember that this league has decided to hang it's hat on superstars lately. So, they try to make a bunch of them, some stick. It's the machine and marketing, not what it used to be.

I didn't realize he was talked about as a Hall of Famer. He hasn't won anything. No way he gets in based on what he has done yet.

Dan marino deserved to be in despite not winning anything for sure... jim kelly too... warren moon had those years outside the nfl to consider as well...

Rivers won one passing title right? Is that enough to warrent consideration?... i mean he probably should be pretty low on the list to get in... in this era both mannings, the ***guy, brees, ben, and rodgers for sure are ahead of him... how many qbs do you need in from this timeframe...

I mean does that mean matty ice gets in? Flacco?

Yeah... rivers probably gets in long before that guy does... winning superbowls is an achievement that punctuates your career, it isn't the sole factor to judge it on...

I don’t think rivers is a bad qb... i just think sometimes being good isn’t good enough... he had his chances and couldn’t get past the other franchise qbs in this era... he is second tier...

Most over rated player in the league. Throw his stats in the trash, this guy is not a winner.

But he does throw a pretty good tantrum.

Do you remember a certain draft situation whereby the Chargers picked up Eli knowing damn well and good that Archie wasn't going to let Eli play for that **** organization? Now we understand the reasoning, right? What could have Rivers done with those Giants teams led by Eli? We'll never know for sure, but we can pretty much guess that it's a HELL of a lot more than he's done in a Chargers uniform.

Rivers has always acted like an arrogant prick. Him, Rodgers and Newton are three of my least favorite QB's. Also P Manning back in the day. The way he would call out his teammates on the field was despicable.

I can't really fault the Chargers for not beating the cheats @home in an AFC championship game.

That isn't an easy thing to do.

Rivers played that game on a partially torn ACL didn't he? And LT tapped out?

P. Manning didn't call his team mates out, he said we had protection issues, Manning called the protections, he was calling himself out.

And the way he acts towards other team's players as well is pretty bad. But he's "feisty" and a "competitor". I've heard Ben is an OCD competitor and I've never seen him display poor sportsmanship.

There are youtube videos galore with examples. I'll try to find a good one later when I have time.

I've never looked that up, the one everyone brings up is the one after the 05 playoff games. Brady screams at player and coaches on the sidelines as well.

what is more curious to me is the coach Tom Flores who won 2 SB and never gets a mention as HOF. Not to mention, it was Flores, not Tony Dungy who was the first minority to win a SB. Somehow that gets swept aside as well. It was funny to me when they made such a big deal about Art Shell being the first black head coach. First that wasn’t actually tru for the NFL and second, Flores was Hispanic and had already won 2 SB.

I guess you could say he didn’t coach long enough but that didn’t seem to matter for Madden.

The concept of Dungy being in the Hall of Fame and Bill Cowher likely never getting in is beyond ridiculous. They are virtually the same coach with one having a slightly darker complexion.

Cowher wanted Rivers over Ben, didn't he?

the scuttlebut was that Cowher wanted the OT Shawn Andrews if memory serves. We’ll never know. It would makes sense for the steelers to have Rivers over Ben because most did. It was generally thought that Manning was a can’t miss. Rivers was probably the most ready to play immediately and Ben had the most upside but could also be a bust because he was a small school guy and liked to freelance.

I bet the steelers still would have won the SB under Cowher with Rivers because that steeler team was so strong across the board. It’s the later years when I think the steelers would have been mediocre like the Chargers if they had Rivers instead of Ben. And if the Chargers took Ben, I bet they would have won a SB somewhere with Marty and all that talent. Marty never had a QB like Ben that could actually make others better instead of just steer the ship.
