Per Rapoport via twitter - Wheaton signs with bears

You know Spike, they could just release all the starters and 2nd string on defense to free up some cap space and go big in free agency.

Shazier, Dupree, Harrison, Burns, Cockrell, Golson, Heyward, Tuitt, Hargrave, McCullers, Chickillo, Williams, Moats, Davis, Mitchell, Golden. I mean can you IMAGINE the trades they could stockpile. Sure there'd be a cap hit over the next year but My GOD the trades and the free space they'd have NEXT year.

And clearly, they'd have a few backups left on defense and they'd have to pick up complete trash at the end of the FA period. But the offense would score somewhere in the zipcode of 84 pts a game so I don't see it really mattering.

Coates must step up

Really Coach? Seriously?

That's like asking a 7-11 clerk to outsmart Stephen Hawking. You do know Good Will Hunting was just a movie, right?

Draft WR #1

It's settled

Us visionaries are rarely appreciated

Actually, our "D" Has been good enough. We need our "O" to score and with our WR hitch, we need more offensive weapons. Imagine a legitamite #1 next to are allready LEGITAMITE #1.

he was solid the previous season in spot duty, but in 2015 he was the cause of most of Ben's sacks, the pressure always came through the middle shortening Ben's time to throw, also had a lot of penalties. He was Horrible, I was starting to doubt my memory and looked for his stats to back it up:

6,5 sacks allowed and 11 penalties

so please just let him go, teach Finney to snap and have him as the backup C
Finney played center vs Baltimore when MP hurt his hand.

then someone else, Cody stank on 2015 and was injured on 2016, there must be a better option for the same price

That's what I've been saying!

The problem is Spike, it doesn't matter who they have on offense, Haley doesn't use them appropriately. True there were injuries to the receiving corps last year that hurt the team. But rather than make adjustments to the game plan that would reduce the burden on Brown and create better opportunities for the receivers to run routes and make plays that they could excel at, Haley continued doing the same **** he did as if he had viable #2 receivers on hand. Ultimately, this lead to terrible mismatches on Brown and a ridiculous over reliance on Bell.

We can draft all offense for the next 5 years and until Haley figures out how to use everyone and use them in creative and non-predictable ways, it's not going to solve the problem.

As for the defense, What Butler played against NE in the AFCC was as dumb a game plan as I've seen in years. A person could wonder if he was trying to get his *** kicked. Offensively, the team just had too many young receivers who were incapable of playing a game at that level and producing. Hamilton, Ayers and Coates aren't ready for prime time. Maybe Ayers and Hamilton will do better next year. Coates had 1 catch for 9 yards in the entire last 2/3s of the regular season. It would be generous to suggest he was useless. He wasn't even successful as a decoy. On the long throw in the AFCC game that the let go through his hands his ******* eyes were closed at the point of the catch. (Please, watch the replay and do it frame by frame.)

I would love for the offense to be able to score as you think they should, but I don't see it. I don't see Haley even wanting them to do it. I think he's got too much of his heart invested in ball control and THEN score.

I see it, as always. This team is "almost" good enough. But not quite.

Actually, his stepping is fine. Someone needs to teach this man how to catch. He's very much like Dwight Stone if you will.

PS: Hawking, according to those in the know is very overrated as a scientist, and as past his prime.

7-11 implies always open.

I have no faith in Coates. He had 1 catch for 9 yards Coach. 9 yards. The entire 2nd half of the regular season.

His head is full of meat. No confidence.

This!

Don't hate Cody at all. He's a serviceable backup. But the Steelers can do better. Lol to DIC, of course I remember the fister

Haley's offenses with the Cardinals and Chiefs were considerably faster paced.

The high emphasis on ball control has been an organizational philosophy going back at least to Cowher's arrival, who learned it from Marty Schottenheimer. Shortening the game as much as possible is a key aspect of Marty ball.

It's beyond merely play selection.

Roethlisberger takes a lot of heat for frequently letting the play clock run down , but apparently they coach him to do that because they want to use as much game clock as possible. It seems like when the game clock is stopped, they always hike the ball much sooner in terms of the play clock.

Both the emphasis on ball control and the "tackle the catch" approach to pass defense are two long-standing philosophies of the Steelers that need to be re-examined, as they may be becoming obsolete in today's NFL.

I see it as COACHING problems. It isn't just Todd or Butler but ALSO the Mike tomlin. This "D" scheme won't change until we bring in a totally different, NOT Dick L. Prodigy type coach. Todd can't come up with a better game plan because he doesn't have to. His bosses accept what he puts out and even aspire him in that regards. Todd was better than the "Bruce" so now the evolution needs to be moved up.....OUR move should be to promote Munch. Seamless entry, keeps the 3year window clean and I think he would better fit play / player in the play calling scheme. We can't change head coach as that would lose our three year window. We can hope our players overcome coaching deficiency and get the stairway to seven and the GREAT Eight.!!!!!

Bet he dropped the pen when he signed his Bears contract

ya think?

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Markus Wheaton's contract with the Bears amounts to a one-year deal at $6 million.

The full contract is for two years at $11 million with $5 million guaranteed, and apparently $6 million in year one. It sounds like the second year on Wheaton's deal amounts to a team option.

So the Bears gave Wheaton a deal similar to Brandon Marshall's
, who landed a two-year, $11 million contract from the Giants with another $1 million available through incentives.

I like how they are describing these future years in contracts as "team options" when ALL contracts in the NFL are pretty much team options, especially after the 1st or 2nd year. Nothing new.

I think the point is, who would you rather have on your team for one year, Brandon Marshall or Wheaton?

I guess they mean team option because all the guaranteed money is in the first year so there's zero cap hit if cut the following season
