Per Mark Madden, AB related

I don't know if it is hate...a lot just don't like how self-absorbed he is. In the end I hope they sign him. Ben has a few more years left but with so many players with the "look at me" attitude I don't see us winning anything. This team needs to embrace "Team". Until they do they will most likely fall short. As the Bus once said . He was on better Steeler teams then the one that he won the SB with but the SB team everyone put TEAM first. I think that goes a long way.

Exactly, you can't say one negative thing about any player on here without being labeled a hater.

10 years ago rbs were worth more than wrs... that aint true anymore... brown is a guy that commands triple teams... add a true #2 to that and the offense is extremely set...

I hope so....but there is more to winning it all then just talent. Maybe sometimes talent can do it. We have seen here though talent alone can't. We need more. Some of our top players are not team players. They are showing the younger players that it is ok to just do your own thing. The more we won the more AB did his own thing. To bad he didn't FB live the locker room right after the NE loss.

The fact that two separate people have claimed Dez Bryant to be better then AB is unreal. Dez Bryant isn't even a top 5 receiver in the NFL. He disappears for games at a time. The only reason he's relivent is because he had a bunch of problems, he's always talking, he plays in Dallas, and every fifth game he makes a spectacular catch (one of his 4 catches for the game). AB is probably going to the hall of fame one day and Dez won't ever sniff it. Keyshawn Johnson 2.0

Someone please answer how AB has cost this team wins by "doing his own thing". Everyone is basing his "selfishness" and him not being a team player on media reports that have no proof. Want to know how his teammates feel about him? Look for Pouncey's Twitter post about the situation.

Any long term analysis of giving Brown $15 million/year is probably not going to look good.

But when your franchise QB is leaking indications of retirement, you don't play the "long term game" anymore. As numerous people have said, this is a 3-year plan now for the Steelers. Not a 5-year plan. I don't really like that, but I can't really argue against it either.

That's why we aren't going to use a high pick (first three rounds) on a QB. That's why we're going to continue to cut some corners on salary cap in weird places (backup QB, kicker, punter) to make up "keeping the core group" together, especially on offense. The Steelers already have the biggest disparity in the league between offense and defense salary cap allocation. That's going to go up even more this off-season when we give contracts to Bell and Brown.

We are turning into the mid-2000's Indianapolis Colts. That team, under Polian, invested heavily in a "core group" of offensive weapons around Manning and then used a majority of their draft picks to keep the defense young, fast and versatile to let Dungy/Kiffin teach them their way.

I'm not sure it works (they did win a Super Bowl) but that's the method of operation our teams seems to be emulating. I would also argue that method doesn't work against the method of operation and coaching Bill Belichick and New England use. Like Indianapolis in the 2000's, they often came up short against Belichcik, Brady and their methods of building teams. The idea of a potent offense and opportunistic, fast, turnover-dependent defense never seems to work against New England.

We'll see if we can overcome that mountain in the next 3 years like Indy did in 2006.

The head coach is the one that mentioned this how star players go from team to team, not the media.

lots of credibility for pouncey seeing he supported hernandez:

I just get tired of all the first down celebrations he and Bell do after EVERY PLAY. I think that in itself shows immaturity. Cripes, act like you've been there before.

What celebrations do they do after 1st downs?

Do you mean the first down signal? I would hardly call that a celebration.

Time for the "Free Antonio" Hat...................

Why not hand the ref the ball and go back to the huddle? Too boring? Crazy thing is, the Ref will give that very same signal so that everyone knows it is a first down. They even pay the ref to do it.

I get it. If it is 3rd and say, 19 and you just made a hell of a play to get the first down, stand up, give the signal. Got it.

Running for 4 yards on 2nd and 3 and giving the signal is dumb. Especially when you do it EVERY TIME.

We are never going to agree on this. I see it as a bunch of look at me non-sense. Just play the game.

I'm with you. Also don't get the celebration after a routine tackle. I imagine players from the 70s Steelers D looking at some of this **** and going, what the **** are you celebrating about?

What? Are you saying you don't like Mitchell's stare after he makes a hit and tackle 15 yds down the field after giving up a first down?

I absolutely love when it's 3rd and 20-something and Mitchell goes for the knockout blow on the WR, and gets a penalty for a first down.
*******. love. it.

those players from the 70's would probably cloths line a few of are own for today's actions of celebrating................

Salute the nation

PS. JOE GREENE or JACK LAMBERT would break Mitchell in half for his stupid ******* actions. They were winners on the field and they also elevated those around them to TEAM first play.

I wouldn't pay him more than 15mil per season. Now, the Steelers might.
The reason? Two words: TY Hilton.
Dude just inked a 5yr/65mil deal. That's 13 per year.
AB is a DRASTICALLY superior player.
Couple that with AJ Green getting 15mil per year...AB has better stats.
Not sure how this will turn out.
I hope he is retained. However, you have to stop the Brinks truck somewhere.

Steelers, Brown begin talks on long-term deal

Michael McClymont*Feb 16, 2017 2:08 PM

Antonio Brown*is going to get paid, and likely by the*Pittsburgh Steelers.

General manager Kevin Colbert told reporters Thursday that negotiations on a long-term deal have begun, as relayed by*Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Colbert added that locking down one of the top receivers in the game is a "priority" for the team.

"I can say unequivocally we want Antonio Brown to retire as a Steeler, just as we want*Le'Veon Bell*to retire as a Steeler," Colbert said,*according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Brown's current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2017 season. He would be a marquee unrestricted free agent heading into 2018.

He's also been criminally underpaid; Brown played the 2015 season with a $1-million base salary, 2016 with a $1.275-million contract, and has a restructured $4.71-million deal for 2017.

He led the NFL in receiving yards in 2014, placed second in 2015, and finished fifth with 1,284 this past season.

"criminally underpaid" but was paid extremely well before he exploded.

one could say he was paid TO explode like he did.

Well, I think when this deal is done. folks head on this board is going to explode. I believe it will be a 6yr (maybe 7) deal. with 45-50 million in signing bonus(guaranteed for the first 3 yrs). with the total contract coming in around 75-80 million.

He is worth that investment. he is 29 yrs old, to my knowledge never missed a game do to injury until the Wildcard concussion hit last year. which mean he'll be on the field( that's all you can ask for). has a work ethic like no other and well no doubt play until he is 38-40 yrs old. not to mention the Salary Cap will most likely keep going up,up and up over the years.
