So in the Pens game last noght a loud "Here we go Steelers " chant broke out... these two franchises have alhad some parallels between them of late...
Most notably, the last time the steelers won the super bowl, the pens followed it with a stanley cup win...
For the record the pens are the current Stanley Cup Champions...

Ironically both play a Boston team this Sunday... the pens are encouraging fans to bring their terrible towels to the 3pm game against the Bruins..

Hopefully this year sees the Steelers follow the pens win and give the city multiple championships yet again

Hell yeah. Only thing is the Pens would have to win again this year for it to count as winning in the same season.

At first glance I thought this thread was about me....

I'm on board for Burgh championships. The Steelers winning 7th would be an historical feat. As a Steelers fan, being the first and only to claim 6. 7, would put me in a comfy spot for the cowbruhs and 9ers to try to catch up.

Pens are my passion. I'm a hockey over football guy. So to see two hard fought championship runs has been awesome. 2016 was all about the Pens getting that monkey off their backs. The recent struggles against NYR, not having won a game inside SAP arena since 1997, and not only winning games in SAP, but hoisting the cup. -- hoping this parallels to the Steelers getting that cheats monkey off their back.

Pirates -- deliver soon

I hold 3 teams to an equal level. Steelers, Pens, and Pitt football. The Steelers 2 super bowls this era were awesome. The time it's been since the last one makes me so hungry for another. Thankfully the Pens got the 2nd of this generation this past summer. 2016 Pens cup meant so much to me. We should've won in 2011 I think it was when we lost to Boston. I wanted a 2nd cup more than a 3rd Lombardi but now I want them both lol. Can never get enough winning.

The 2016 cup meant a lot to me as well. It hushed the critics on Sid and his leadership. The cup made Sid more hungry as well.
The 2005-06 run for the Steelers was amazing in that they were a 6th seed team and nearly missed the playoffs. In the playoffs the Steelers were just a different team. 2008 was a dominant defensive season for the Steelers, all season long watching Harrison/Woodley pressure QB's was awesome. If any game that season described the Steelers, it was against the Cowboys coming from behind, Townsend pick 6.

When the Pens lost to Boston, that was in 2013. That series stung the heart for a bit. That Pens team was loaded with talent. Jerome Iginla was the big signing before the playoffs and he was non-existent all series.

Much like the Pens, the Steelers have had their ups and downs of recent. Another thing I like with both these teams is the young talent shaping the teams. On the Pens you have Sheary, Rust, Geunztel, Gaunce --- Steelers: Davis, Burns, Dupree, Rogers. So a lot of similarities.

Good luck to Pitt football as well. I followed them a bit this past season. They beat Clemson. Let that sink in

Yeah I was at the Pitt Clemson game. One of the best nights of my life.

If the Steelers pull it off this will be the 3rd time they won a championship in the same year as the pens or pirates. Now that's a city of champions!

No it won't.

Steelers won in 79/80 season. Pirates won in 79 season

Steelers won in 2008/09 season. Penguins won in 2008/09 season

This year. Penguins won in 2015/16 season. If Steelers pull it off it will be the 2016/17 season.

A calander year is 365 days so I'm correct. I swear some folks just like to argue over silly stuff.

You must be new here. It's what we DO. Welcome to SN.com. :welcome:

Lots of correlations between the different franchises in Pittsburgh clumping championships together.
Pirates, Steelers, and Pens. Heck even Pitt won the national championship following the 76 season, with the Steelers winning it all earlier in the year.

I see no reason why the title of City of Champions shouldn't return to it's rightful home.

I note that Steelers players and coaches have a habit of showing up regularly at Penguins games.

City of champions it shall be. Pens are poised to make another run too.

Did anyone catch the penguins social media site posting that video of the pens mascot coming out if the tunnel to renegade with a terrible towel and it concuding with a here we go steelers message?

lol cool I'll look for it..

Pens and boston playing right now... the result of this will foreshadow later... pittsburgh teams seem to ride the same karma wave most days

Yep so by this pattern the game should be close early... the steelers stroke first brady leaves the game while behind late and the steelers pull away

Bad connection. The Pens have Matt Murray - the Steelers have no defensive stoppers
