Pending Contract Alteration, Roethlisberger To Return in 2021

You seem to be "touching your dick" over Ben.

I've got some news for you...the Steelers ain't won **** WITH BEN for ten years now. Except three playoff games in a two-year span back in 2015 and 2016, against teams who started AJ McCarron, Matt Moore, and Alex Smith at quarterback. Ben has gone 8 out of 10 seasons, running through the prime of his career, without winning a single postseason game. You think that's going to magically change next year, when he's nearly 40?

It is time to address the future at the QB position. Hoping and praying Ben somehow pulls a miracle out of his *** next year (after not looking "terrible" this season) would be a bit more "delusional."

Exactly... Ben is not even the Ben of 4 years ago. Abs we couldn’t win then. You can’t put off something just because it’s uncomfortable and difficult. Just about every franchise has to rebuild at some point when you don’t have a legit franchise qb; and we don't have one anymore. It’s time to get on with the rebuild and stop acting like scared school girls about it.

Some of you guys really sound rediculous in wanting to hang on to a used up QB cause you can’t imagine a future without him. We move on ; just like all other franchises have before.

I think those are all a reach.
It just could be that Ben is starting to suck.

This is unfortunately it. He's still got the arm talent, but the leg talent isn't there. He doesn't want to get hit. He can't move in the pocket. His lower body mechanics are subpar on throws. That isn't to say he can't play pretty well, it just won't be consistent. He played well for about 2/3 of the season this year. A year older next year against a very tough road schedule, it may only been half the season or less. I hope I'm wrong.

We all saw him not want to get hit when he could easily have fallen on that bad snap ball. When your afraid to get hit, it’s time to move on.

You aren't addressing the QB position from the 24th draft position. You aren't addressing the QB position in a tight, low cap year (with very limited legitimate options as well). Ben playing one more year doesn't prevent us from magically finding the next franchise QB.

Ben is a steelers legend and he'll go out how he wants to go out, not as some finicky posters on a random website wish. You can hope in one hand and **** in it other and see which one fills up first...

Or you could not be a dick all the time...

Are sure you you're not addressing the quarterback position from the 24th draft position? Have a look at where the best quarterbacks in the NFL over the last 15 years were drafted. Only about half of the very best QB's of the last 15 years were drafted before 24. Rodgers, Brees, Wilson, Brady all drafted at 24 and later. Mahomes and Ben drafted at 10 and 11. In the case of Mahomes, Kansas traded up up from 27, so even though they used the 10 pick, it can be argued they addressed the QB position form the 27th draft position. Only Peyton Manning was drafted at 1 (not sure if I've missed any).

I do agree with you though that the Steelers are better to retain Ben, as the history shows that quarterbacks are more likely to succeed over an extended period if drafted by teams that don't suck, and it also helps to be given a year or two (or three in Rodgers case), rather than being thrown in the deep end, and Ben still gives them a better chance of winning than Rudolph or a rookie (I'm not as ready to write the Steelers off for 2021 as others are).

I've said it many times but it seems to be missing a lot of people. If Ben is going to come back for another year, he must commit to being in the best shape of his life - better than last year. Most forget he started the season in great shape and was even scrambling and picked up a first down or two with his ******* legs. But, about halfway through the season, he did get hurt. He stopped scrambling altogether. It was obvious something was wrong. He was still by far our best QB so he still played and he was still our best option the last 4 to 5 games of the year.

He needs to start about in another week eating right with a personal chef and working out with a trainer. He can't wait another month or two. He has to start now. He'll have a few weeks off for his body to heal. Now, it's time to get at it. ****, go workout with Marsha in the offseason, just come back in the best shape of your life. And, if he does that and doesn't get hurt again, he will be much more mobile just like he was early this past year.

And, for the morons out there, when I say mobile, I am not talking Allen kind of mobile. I am just talking about being able to move around in and out of the pocket and even run here and there if needed.

Some want to dismiss that he was dealing with an injury, but he showed flashes of ok late in the Cleveland game. I can't rule it out as a possibility. Of course he has declined. But how much remains to be seen. I take it this next season will show all. Probably his last regardless of outcome anyways. No worries Steelernation there is plenty of options behind him.

Conner should have fallen on it, not Ben. Ben’s watching Conner and Conner watching Ben. That’s all that was..uncertainty of who was going to dive on it. You think Brady would dove on one if his RB was also after it? Get real.

Physically impossible at his age and the pounding he’s taken over the years. A strong offseason workout plan has also never really been a part of season prep. I don’t expect it to start now.

this.

I agree about him doing something revolutionary with his lower body work out, yoga , ballet etc.. But its never much happend before why would it start now.

**** t*mmyb*y,..... They would have called offsides on the "D" and gave t*mmyb*y 1st and 5 to go.

As for BEN, it's a mute point as he is coming back and starting no matter what is said here. BEN is better than most think but not as good as most want. He is also an all time great STEELERS player and has already said he doesn't care about his wage and wants to do what ever helps the team in cap situation. He was mid season injured but no one knows the extent or duration.

YES, I repeat that again, YES he can be better but it hinges on "TDX27" work out regime and seriousness of that regime taken. It also depends on in season injury as he can't recover nearly as fast as t*mmyb*y induced TB12 (not the watered down **** either). BEN ROETHLISBERGER will give his all, heart and soul as he has for many years (some are blind to see).

We have no one on the current roster better but we do have a capable QB in #2 role. Add in our new OC and he won't dumb back the "O" for either QB and I see us doing fine.

He did it last year along with his rehab. He absolutely can come back in great shape if he starts now. It's his job. He needs to do the cardio he was doing and add in a solid strength and mobility program. He should and can absolutely do that. He is getting older but he still made all the throws this year and threw a ton. 40 - 50 passes in a game is impressive at the end of the year coming off his injury. My guess is he can do the same next year.

He also had the lowest yards per pass of his career in 2020.

Some of that was scheme, but he just was not as accurate on the longer throws as he has historically been.

It's not just mobility, as his passing skills showed some regression as well.

He's still decent, as he did throw for 500 yards in the playoff game, but he's not good enough to carry the offense anymore, IMO.

They have to completely revamp the running game to take pressure off of him if they want to win a championship next season, and I just not think Tomlin has it in him.

Maybe they hit the jackpot on a couple linemen in the draft and Canada is the next Bill Walsh, but I wouldn't count on either.

It's one thing when it's rehab and all that working out didn't even last him a full season. An offseason program isn't going to help his arthritis. He's old, immobile, and just physically isn't capable of doing the things that he did for 15 years on a consistent basis. We saw it last season and it won't be any better next season. The only chance they have to contend for a Wild Card spot next year is what Punx just outlined, hope you hit the jackpot on two new OL and a RB and that Canada can install his offense in one season.

Exercising and mobility absolutely help with arthritis. I have arthritis in my shoulders and elsewhere. When I started training with a trainer, the pain in my shoulders disappeared for the most part. Now, I'm not getting hit by 300 pounders but it absolutely helps.

Those passes had most to do with the play calling - some on Ben but mostly on the play calling.

Exactly... every QB under center for two years had tge same general ypa... thats scheme not ability....

Bens arm wasn’t the issue... the wrs dropped a lot and everyone’s timing was off... the route tree priorities based on defensive looks were all exposed in the second Ravens game and we didn’t change things up... the end of the year collapse was for the third year in a row because the teams offense couldn’t adapt to what defenses were doing to stop them... I mean it was fairly repeatable outcomes tgree seasons straight and ben only played two of them

The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers might disagree with your assessment there.

They could certainly address the situation. This is a quarterback-rich draft. Maybe one of the top three prospects after Lawrence won't go off the board as early as people think. Maybe Jones or Trask are available. It's too early to tell. Maybe they have an eye on a replacement early in next year's draft. Who knows? What I do know is the Steelers don't need to muddle through another season where they maybe make the playoffs (or only get close, another non-losing season, perhaps?), get their ***** kicked in their first postseason game again, and end up right back in the same boat they're in right now. That's what you're looking at if Ben returns.

Of course Ben is a legend. He's one of my all-time favorite Steelers. But he's also a shell of his former self, and "how he wants to go out" is not as important as the welfare of the team going forward. You've been ******** in your hand with Tomlin for the last ten years, and as good as Ben was, they have not a single Super Bowl appearance in an entire decade to show for it.

By the way, a poster (Steeler) brought up the dick-touching. Not me.

Are we making anything of this? I forgot Bouchette even wrote about the Steelers anymore since he went to The Athletic. Is he still connected at all?

Not from that pot stirrer.

Has Bouchette really fallen that far that he needs to stir the pot for reads? Dang...

Call him whatever click bait, stir the pot, Douchette. I just don't take a lot of stock in might might not's.

I mean **** Rooney himself indicated that it wouldn't be easy, Ed is just riding his coattail.

Another thing about they "ROONEY" statement is it let BEN know it wasn't just Ben's decision and it was the Franchise's to make.
