Jordan DeFigio, @fidgenewton SteelerNation.com Ben Roethlisberger wants to play football next year. The*Pittsburgh Steelers want Ben Roethlisberger to play football next year.*According to The Athletic Pittsburgh’s Mark Kaboly, it could happen. But not without a huge alteration to Roethlisberger’s current contract. As it stands, he’s owed a crisp $41.25 million next year. And the Steelers […]

Marsha is in SB ten, making $25M to help his team via cap.

BB 2019= BB2020+ JuJu2020?

Good news! Get it done and train like Rocky after the ink dries.

Ben will get the money owed him this year plus a little extra and they will add 2 to 3 years to his contract. The bonus can then be spread over the 3 to 4 year total contract and save us 20 to 30 million in space this year and probably only have a cap hit of $10 million or so for maybe a few years. It will be palatable and relatively easy to deal with.

which is exactly what alot of people have been saying, and what the idiots on the radio here in Pittsburgh can't seem to grasp.

Ben is due $41 million this year I think. If so, give him a $50 million signing bonus with $10 million salary this year and then $15 million for the next 3 years. That makes his hit $22.5 this year and $12.5 dead money for 3 years if they part ways. I think that is reasonable and probably the best you will do unless he makes his salary $5 million this year.

I was under the impression that if he retires, the cap hit from a signing bonus accelerates and hits the books immediately. I could be wrong ... it happens.

Hmm...I'm definitely no cap expert. I thought his salaries went away and the bonus was spread out over the contract length. Not sure, though.. Maybe one of our cap experts will chime in with their thoughts and what an extension might look like with the "phantom" years on the contract.

Again here are some scenarios that Could happen with his contract. https://Invalid Link - Check SN Home Page/2020/08/looking-ahead-at-2021-ben-roethlisberger-contract-cap-cutting-scenarios/

id settle for some ballet, yoga, plyometrics,,, and some Tae Bo.

In the context and parameters of what an NFL qb needs at 38-39 years old. I would certainly throw in some EMS training as well. It would be perfect for him.

I'm in this boat as well. If he retires his signing bonus is due. I'm sure they will make it way more friendly and are looking for him to play 2021. I'm not sure if they look for him in 2022 as I'd be reluctant but I'd also put it up front to him that this is his last season, well unless he happens to ball out........

Roethlisberger's cap hit is $41 million next year. He's only due $19 million in 2021 (base salary of $4 million and roster bonus of $15 million).

If you want a good read on the options the Steelers have, check this out: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-contract-spells-trouble-if-he-stays-or-goes/

Per Ed Bouchette tweet, Ben told him he doesn't care about his pay this coming season! Is willing to restructure however it needs to be. Great to hear!

Can someone screenshot those? Ed blocked me on Twitter 4 years ago when I told him it seemed like he had "mailed it in" as far as an article he wrote. I believe he was praising Haley. In any event we had a little back and forth about not knowing good journalism and I finally "crossed the line" when I asked if he was drunk when he wrote the article. I took the ban as a "Yes".

Ben Roethlisberger just told me: "I don't care bout my pay at all this year!" And is willing to restructure a contract that has a $41 million cap hit for 2021 that includes $19 million in bonus and salary that can be restructured.
Ben told me he went to the Steelers first about restructuring his contract. "I want to do everything I can and made that very clear to them from the very beginning that it was my idea to basically help the team however I can this year."

Good on Ben. I'll admit I thought he was going to ride the gravy train. Looks like I was wrong (and glad to be so).

Ben will get paid if he plays this year there is no two ways about that. Restructuring is an accounting trick not a loss of income for Ben.

I don't know why but I really think Ben is going to do this one. I believe Bettis did something similar. I no he only played for a 1m his last two seasons.

Straight Maximum Pay Cut Restructure – While it’s very unlikely to happen, Roethlisberger could agree to the altering of his 2021 contract year and thus have the $15 million roster he’s due in March removed and have his $4 million base salary lowered to the allowable minimum, which in his case would be $1.075 million. Such generosity on Roethlisberger’s part would lower his 2021 cap charge to $23.325 million, a savings of $17.925 million. This scenario just isn’t going to happen but if it did, below is what Roethlisberger’s 2021 year would look like on paper.

YEAR BASE SALARY SIGNING BONUS PRORATION ROSTER BONUS CAP CHARGE CASH FLOW
2021 $1,075,000 $22,250,000 $0 $23,325,000 $1,075,000

Ben should just take 18 million as a signing bonus with a one mil salary on a three year extension... his cap hit drop dramatically ( it stays at like 23 million even if we cut him, but it will be like 28 million this year and 14 next if he retires... with the cap back to near normal next year its fine...

Why wouldn’t he do it? He’s already wealthy. He wants to win. He will get his money anyway. We get him some blockers, we climb the stairway to seven!!

Hala-******-luia. Someone gets it. Ben has a contract. If Ben didn't have a contract and wanted to play he could play for say 15 million one year. But the Steelers refinanced his contract into a corner. And you cannot make it go away. Its as simple as the plug who wants a brand new F-150 and cannot afford it. So he gets 84 month financing. He tricks himself into believing that in 7 ****** years the F-150 is gonna make him happy when he is still making his $700 a month payment for a 7 year old truck. Its simply bad math.
And to anyone who thinks Ben did something for the team by restructuring his deals think again. He just helped them play shell games with his money. He wasn't out anything.
