No, this thread is predicting another SB championship - I don't think they have it in them. It is asking why we seem to play the Patriots more than any other non-division team. I get that we play the AFC east next year, but it seems like we play the Patriots every year. Is there a simple explanation for this?

There's a set formula for determining the schedules. No conspiracy.

Its like every four years teams will play a division. But the Steelers do tend to play the pats often. I'm sure ratings/fan interest go into scheduling
 
So they are going to call PI and holding penalties this week. Would have been nice.

You play every team within a certain division in your conference based on rotation, and within the two other divisions, you play the team that finished within their own division the same as you did the previous season.

It's pretty easy to verify.

For example, this season the Steelers played the AFC west, and given they won the AFC North last year, played the division winners of the AFC East and South.

Yep, so seeing as we finished 2nd in the North this year. we will play the 2nd place team in the West and South. and we play the East this year as well as the NFC East. So the Browns always play the the last place teams and still find a way to suck
 
Last year we were division winners, so were the Pats. You play the div winner in each Division. Next season we play the 2nd place div winners.
 
I have no problem with whoever the Steelers play.

This is a huge factor in the Pats success that the AFC East is usually garbage. Usually, one other team rises to mediocre and the others suck. That's how the Pats have one of the easiest schedules nearly every year. That's how they get the bye so often.

This schedule formula has been in place since the first year after divisional realignment (When they add a 4th division in each conference) Which I believe was '02. This is why the NFL announces opponents for the next season the day after the regular season..

Kind of remarkable with this formula, Cleveland still cant get it right.

Or Oakland...
 
Add in the WEAK division, the home field extra curicular advantage, the officiating (not as much recently), the extra stretch of the rules and you've got a winner. Some of these things are wanning, so I expect to see less n less division championships out of them. **** sticks
