Parris Campbell runs a 4.31

Campbell has a ton of drops. He also doesn’t run clean routes. Good in the open field.....but them drops are apparent.

I’d rather have McLaurin, runs smooth routes and has great release. Ran 4.4’s. Both can be had in the middle rounds

If we are talking OSU WR's... I would much rather have McLaurin later in the draft.

The guys who can be had later are Boykin and Harry. I would be THRILLED if any of the 3 ca be had in round four or later.

.

I'm a Buckeye fan, and love Campbell. A lot of his "receptions" were little forward toss end-arounds. A little 2 foot flip forward, if that. Several times a game. Running plays, really, but officially a reception. That probably hurt his YPC.
He's really fast, great in the open field, can break a tackle and suddenly it's a touchdown. Fun player to watch. They should have gone to him more.
If the Steelers draft him, regardless of round, I won't be pissed.

So it sounds like a system thing. How often did he get open deep on a post or go route?

They spread the ball around. A lot.
They really didn't go deep all that often. A lot of short and medium range passes. Campbell killed it on crossing routes. When they really needed a clutch play, Parris was who they went to.

being the fastest doesn't necessarily mean you are any good at WR....

Coolie,

Fast alone does not describe Campbell.

Campbell ran a 4.03 20 yard shuttle is elite. Almost as good as Rod Woodson's who ran it under 4 seconds!

A 40 " vertical leap is elite.

This man is very fast, can jump very high and can change direction with the best of them. Watch his drills at the combine. He's rather smooth.

If you have three elite level traits, speed, change of direction and jumping ability, odds are you will be a good NFL receiver. I think he has a chance to be a star if paired with a good QB,

He's faster than Mike Wallace. Not a small guy either. 6' 205 lbs, with slightly longer than average arms for a WR.

I hate using 40 times to rate players. Now the change of direction drills i can see more of an argument. Look at JuJu by comparison he seems slow, but he has how many very long TDs?? I would take production over tangibles every day

His game tape and hands-positional drills showed well.

That is why you should take the BPA not the BAA.(best athlete available).

Al Davis used to hang up on 40 times and it seemed like he had more busts than success.

Sure he’s fast, has great change of direction. Both the 40 and cones verified what his tape shows. What he is poor at is route running. He wasn’t smooth with those and a lot of his generated big plays were bump screens and bubble screens that allowed him more room to maneuver. His dropped passes has been noted. McLaurin better all around player, IMO.

so your post just proves my point.

but in addition to your love of his skills,

can he actually catch the ball? will he make the contested catches? can be beat the defender in press coverage or is he swallowed up at the LOS? so he can jump, but does he have ball skills, can he time his jump to catch the ball at his high point?

I don't fall in love with any player based on what he does in shorts at the combine.
