I like what I saw and read out of Ian Wild. Could be a special teams star. Tackles well and has " it " when it comes to finding the football vs the run. Wild did very well on special teams in the CFL 9 27 tackles ) , which isn't easy because the playing field is even larger.

Get to know him:

Pro Day results show a very good 10 yard dash and 20 yard shuttle. Speed is just okay.

Hope you're correct.....ST's are a huge Achille's heel for the Steelers. Field position is incredibly important and the Steelers seem to always suck hind tit on it.

With our defense in transition, solid special teams play is even more important.

he could get a spot with all the injuries we are suffering. At least he will earn a PS spot if he keeps doing well

All for it, hope he sticks. Our ST need a lift and maybe he is it.

Sounds like he has a good shot at making the team.

They've had him next to Shazier training with the 1's at ILB due to injuries.

I think they're seeing if he can cover SS and ILB while contributing on special teams. I think he could push Garvin for his spot on the roster.

Right now I think Wild should make the team, but odds are he will not. Wild could play a little in the nickel, as he's a better cover and chase player in comparison to say Sean Spence.

WILD IS NOT making the team at the expense of SEAN SPENCE. Lunacy! However, Wild's play may just be the reason that you saw Golden get back so quickly and if I were Ross Ventrone, I'd be trying my damnedest to get back out there to remind them why they kept me on the 53 after the call up last year.

And I doubt if he pushing Garvin either.

His problem is he is a tweener. I'm not sure he is fast enough for safety and he doesn't look near big enough for LB and inside LB is so stacked how would he beat out Spence/ Williams anyways. Full effort guy. love to have him on SP teams but it becomes a positional flexibility deal. A guy like DHB is really just there for SP. Teams, but you know he could be a 4th reciever in a pinch. If Wild is the 4th best safety behind Mitchell, Thomas, and Will allen and he is a good SP. Teamer he has a shot. Otherwise no.

He has played well. It will be interesting to see who stays and who leaves. There are lots of guys that only play for a few years before they get bumped from a roster. Some guys get 3 or 4 seasons and the dream is over for them. He might beat some of the guys that arrived the same way he did and become their replacement.

Are you ******* CRAZY? that guy is a ******* loser that will never ever produce. Take him. one less problem for the NFL

He has zero chance to make the final 53. This reminds me of Coach pimping Dante Brown over Willie Parker because Dante Brown made a couple TD runs (through giant holes, no defender even touched him) in the 4th quarter of a couple preseason games.

I'd hardly call Garvin a lock for a roster spot, he's the 5th inside LBer and a special teamer. I think Garvin's spot is definitely up for grabs with the likes of Wild, Fogg and Darby in the mix. We could very well see an extra DB taken at Garvin's expense.

HUH? I was fond of Parker. He showed too much speed and playmaking in the pre-season. I think your brain has some facts mixed up. Reverse the names, and you've got it correct.

We see this every year, young guys playing their guts out while the more experienced guys play the more conservative role and work on consistency. Garvin has played well so far this year and he is a known quantity both on teams and as a back-up while guys like Wild, Fogg and Darby are showing their athletic ability and position diversity. In the end I believe what we have seen in the past, the Steelers like experience above all else.

How many times has Tomlin bypassed the PS for guys working the UPS warehouse because they have played on and even started in actual games somewhere. My money is on Garvin, Golden and maybe even Ventrone if they are healthy come September as long as there isn't a decent vet available after the initial cuts. History says it takes a hell of a player to make this team from the free agent signings, it's been done but a not whole lot.

I'm rooting for Fogg Grant and Fort to make the roster Fogg hopefully sticks over BW webb then you can replace Webb on special team with a kid like Ian Wild or darby. But from all accounts Fogg and Grant as corners both have a nose for the ball as Fogg's 6 training camp int's can attest to.
Also rooting for Chickillo to make the 53 then be slapped onto the practice squad....

I think Garvin is close to a lock as is Doran Grant. Garvin is pretty damn valuable on special teams and Grant has certainly showed enough as a 4th round pick to stick around this season. Fogg is probably 50-50 as the #6 CB.

Fort has no chance at all. Chickillo might make it if we keep Adams on the PUP, but he should be nervous about what happens when #26 takes up a roster spot.

I think Wild has more special teams value than Fogg. Villanueva has looked pretty good in the pre-season. You could say he's better than Adams was when Adams was forced to start. Maybe Adams on the PUP would not be a bad thing.

Fogg will be kept for his potential at CB. Garvin will be kept to play special teams. Wild will be cut. Villanueva is not better than a healthy Adams yet. But Adams is not healthy enough to be on the roster so he must stay on PUP until he can actually practice football.

This could be a 5th safety vs 6th corner type of debate. Give me the guy who's better on special teams, and has played better in camp and the pre-season games. That would be Wild. Fogg to the PS.

Villanueva has played well and has upside. He gets a spot. Adams is hurt and is a free agent soon.....No way should the Steelers risk not keeping the big V.

As for Chickillo, Harrison will be retiring or hurt soon. I hope he retires playing on the field. Jarivs Jones can be a free agent after the 2016 season. If the Steelers do not keep Chickillo in 2015 they might regret is in 2016.
