Greetings all. I used to be a member here, but work and family have consumed more and more of my time so I drifted away. I rejoined to present an opportunity for Steeler Nation to help out a fellow Steelers fan. I live in Colorado and my son goes to school with a 7 year old young lady with health issues. She has biliary atresia and requires a liver transplant. Thankfully they have found a suitable donor, but the mother had to quit her job to care for her and as you can guess the medical bills are going to be substantial. They have set up a site for donations (http://cota.org/campaigns/COTAforAlyshaS) to help with the financial burden and I thought this would be a good opportunity for the Nation to provide support, no obligation of course.

Full disclosure, the young lady is a Broncos fan since we live in Colorado...but her dad is a die-hard Steelers fan. Again, no obligation...I am just trying to help this family out and every little bit helps.

I know this isn't really football related, but I got the OK from the mods to post it here.

Thanks,

Chad

Thank you so much! We have been helping them out outside of this effort, but to add some incentive I will match donations from the Nation through the end of the month up to $500 (I'm not independently wealthy, but I'm trying to do what I can). I have no way to track donations, so you can put them here or PM me and I'll keep track.

I wanted to give an update for those who are interested. Unfortunately we got some not so great news. Alysha contracted some kind of infection in her blood about a week before the transplant was supposed to take place so they had to cancel it. Sadly, the donor was unable to reschedule so she will have to go back on a wait list. Her blood type is O-, so it is a difficult match to find. Of course we are still hoping and praying for a positive outcome.

Another update for those who are interested, sorry for the delay but I had some family issues of my own come up.

Anyway, they were able to find another donor for Alysha and the transplant took place about 2 weeks ago. I am happy to say that everything went great and she is on the road to full recovery. They even say she could be able to return to school in a few weeks! Thank you to those who donated or even included her in their thoughts and prayers. She is a fantastic and incredibly strong young lady.
