This story about Chuck Schumer is almost too wild to believe. For at least 30 years Schumer has written and spoken about Joe and Eileen Bailey, a middle-class couple living in Long Island. He has provided detailed backstories about the couple, including their occupations, their children, family medical scares, and their opinions on immigration, the Vietnam war, tax cuts, etc.
The problem? These "people" don't exist. Schumer made them up and has been telling phony stories about them for more than 30 years. This John Oliver segment goes into some details on the fictional family:
Unbelievable. Schumer bases his political decisions on how a fictional family, one he made up, would view the issue.
