The defensive line coach of the steelers provided a great deal of insight regarding the development of college players in his comments. One of the things he mentioned in his comments regarding players and their lack of technique is due to the time college coaches have with these kids many times three years, they only focus on what the kid can do when he arrives and do not spend time to develop them further to a great degree.

This would explain to me some of the comments about why a kid is raw or not polished in his game. It makes a great deal of sense when you think about it and realize the advanced skill set of the nfl player is not being taught at the college level. The comments are on the steelers web site and he is one of the better coaches as far as conveying information to the press along with Carnel Lake. Those two provide nice interviews.

Thanks for the post,Wingman. Mitchell not only conveys info well to the Press, he must do the same to his players. Just take Smith(4th rd) Keisel(6th) and even Casey-a 1st rd choice but rated the second best tackle on his college team. Now working on Mclendon, McCullers, and Tait and adding a new one. I wouldn't bet against him. His background is a reason why I am reluctant to take a talking head or a Board members opinion over his. Nice to have arguably the best OL and DL coaches in the NFL on our staff.

Good to hear big Dan is is in great shape. Here we go steelers!

Mitchell is actually the assistant head coach, a title bestowed on him both because of his excellence and in order to keep teams from stealing him away with a DC offer.

Also the time is far past for the NFL to have a minor league system... I dont know why these billionairs that always try to start rival pro leagues havent simply done a league that drafts kids out of high school and college and start a default minor league the NFL would have to buy out.
