With the board already up in arms about this pick & Dontae Johnson being picked @ #66 we may as well get this started early....

We could've gotten him in the fourth round, and taken Winovich. I'm sorry, but this was a panicky type of move, and shows me they were hoping to get Metcalf. Stupid move.

But, with that said, I REALLY like the Layne pick. So 2 for 3. And it's not that I don't like Johnson, just a huge reach, but I hope it pans out.

we could have had winovich and boykin.
even tho i am not a fan of the trade to get bush, i would have been thrilled with this haul.
im totally disgusted with that wr pick. embarrassing actually

He was rated a low third rounder in a few places... i think they could have traded down a few spots and gotten him, but not rounds....

it "shows you" they were hoping to get metcalf?

Would have preferred Butler but I don't hate Johnson. Especially if it's true that he was going in the next couple picks if we didn't take him. I actually think we've had an amazing draft so far. And there is still lots of talent left. I ain't mad at all. Diontae will have these AFC north DBs on skates for the next 10 yrs

Layne is a solid pick, he was rated as a second rounder in most mocks, even saw a late first prediction. Don't know much about the other guy Johnson but our scouts who have a decent track record rating receivers see something in him that caused them to place him high on their draft board. They picked him ahead of some quality receivers so let's hope they're right.

the johnson pick is frustrating for sure. 5-10 180 4.5 Akron the second pick of third round... almost a 2nd rd pick. ok colbert is the guy that drafted some good receivers like brown in the 6th but he's also the guy that drafted willie reid wr in the 3rd and limus sweed in the 2nd. hoping this johnson pick doesn't fit in that group.

I will say this. The Steelers never seem to want to please there fans too much. They so easily could have done this: put up a late pick and move ahead a few spots and take Metcalf. Sit where you are and take Winovich. Draft Layne and then take Boykin. You make any of those moves and I feel like they stole the draft. They would have gotten a clear war daddy and two seconds. That is more or less like paying no price to move up and take Bush. Instead they make the head scratcher move on the Toledo wr. And I agree they have developed some nice wr. They have plenty of misses too. I just think they so easily have knocked it out of the park.

I said it wrong, what I meant was this reeks of desperation. I think they wanted either Metcalf or AJ Brown, and since both went right before us, we panicked. It's happened many times, including taking Artie Burns when the Bengals took William Jackson III.

But again, I'm not anti Dontae Johnson, and his style seems to be a good fit for our offense. Overall, I'm pretty damn happy with the first two days of the draft. I guess I just really like Winovich and was hoping to get him. But we didn't, and the fact remains we are better now than we were two days ago.

Layne is a good pick. Johnson is a suck *** bizarre pick. I hate it. I wanted one of the tall, fast guys with good hands. Johnson has none of that. He will struggle to make the team.

For day 3, hopefully, we use some of our late picks to move up near the top of the 4th round and take the BPA. We don't need all of our picks so go for quality.

How can you make this assessment about Johnson???

When terminology like "AB clone" is directly linked to the kid, please...

Yes, there have been a few bad picks at WR, but, generally speaking, the Steelers have been stellar in the selection process.

The team may not get AB production out of Johnson right away but the potential is there so R-E-L-A-X and enjoy the show...

OLB and TE are the remaining pressing needs and we have plenty of picks to get them.

A small, small school guy vs. A big, big school guy. How often does New England miss on a guy like Winovich. Who knows what will happen but if I'm betting I take Winovich as a solid starting Pro and our guy out of the league in two or three years

I understand the question of value, but to diss him anymore than that without seeing him play is a little overboard.

I want to see if those quick feet translate with a jump up in competition.

But I think he was what a special teams award winner for punt and kick returns? There is some quicks that I am intrigued with.

Also we can double down and get Butler who I see is still available!

Potential may be there but I see nothing that puts him on the team ahead of Switzer, who is a pretty good WR and is our No. 1 special teams guy. He could get ahead of Rogers. The kid is going to have to show something in pre-season to make the team. I don't see his roster spot anywhere near a given. I hope he turns out to be the next AB but there were a handful of guys I would have rather had. As I said countless times, I want and think the team needs a tall, fast guy with good hands. Diontae might have decent hands but that's about it.

So you would rather have Burress than AB is what you are saying. Watching this guys tape he screams AB to me in ability. If we get anything close to that he will be worth it. He will make the team. I see him starting in the slot very quickly with his ability to get off the line.

But no that isn't about it. His body control. His quick feet off the line with an ability to beat the press. His electric return ability.

Not in the least. But, AB is special and very, very rare. You can't even think of trying to compare Diontae or anybody to him. That's insane. I am saying that the make up of our team and how the NFL is playing these days, a tall, fast WR with good hands is a huge advantage. Our only "big" target for Ben this year will be McDonald, if he is healthy (and that's always a big if). For Ben's final few years, another big target would have been huge. Now, he won't have it unless we take one of the remaining decent big fast WR's left in this draft. Reading reviews on Diontae, it's a mixed bag. For his sake, he needs to be better than what I've read his negatives are because Switzer is more than capable of handling our return duties and Switzer was better than Rogers last year in the slot.

Look, I hope all of our draft picks make it and thrive. But, as I have said, I think our team needed that big target for Ben. Diontae is a project. I don't see him contributing at all this year unless we have injuries or he just blows Switzer out of the water with his returns. Can he do it? That remains to be seen.

I think as much as Ben wants a big receiver it is overrated. I will take a guy who can actually get off the line and make quick breaks over a big guy who is an easier target to jam at the line and has a limited route tree. I am not saying this guy will be AB but he has some attributes that excite me much more than a straight line lumbering hulk like Metcalf. Time will tell I just don’t get the instant hate. It is not like he is a Dri Archer like midget.
