Nice job Landry

Exactly he was competing with no one but himself and some(myself included) wanted him off the team to open a roster spot for someone else. I just don't call everyone who doesn't agree with me an idiot..

If Landry Jones just ended Vick's career with the Steelers he is in the running for 3rd best Steeler QB in its storied history, not bad for 1 appearance kid.

I mean let's be serious, Landry blew bags of dicks in the preseason. Who knows if he will ever be able to repeat what happened yesterday. But I'll take it. Congrats Landry. Thanks for helping finish off AZ.

What did Archer do wrong yesterday? Really, Dave, what did he do?

I don't think the criticism is so much what he has done wrong Kev, it's more like what he has not accomplished as a third round pick. There is a certain amount of production that is expected and so far being another Lupe Sanchez just don't cut it.

Great job, Landry.

Some keep saying he did nothing in preseason, but did he play with the first team during preseason?

Way to go, Landry, I didn't think you had it in you (although you showed some signs this preseason). Should note that nearly all of Jones' opportunities in the preseason have come behind a second-team O-line that has been beyond abysmal.

I was wrong for telling people they were crazy to be calling for Jones to get a chance.

I can't believe the anger and the hate that is being directed toward Tomlin after we beat a quality team with our 3rd string QB. How many times have you haters said that Tomlin would be exposed as soon as we didn't have Ben covering for his incompetent ***? How many of you said implementing Tomlin's passive cover-2 defense would be a disaster?

Well he did go for two and even though it had no impact on the game we are going to harp on that damn everything else

So.... Tomlin is an idiot because his 3rd string QB won the game? You Tomlin haters have no idea how tough it is to win a game against a better team with your backup. Tomlin just did it with our backups backup. 31 other teams would sell their souls to have a 3rd stringer get a win. Toughest thing to do in football.

Cope,

The two point conversion was a bad decision by Tomlin plain and simple. Sticking with Vick who I think had 1 total passing yard at the half was a bad decision. Hindsight says Tomlin's initial decisions hurt, and did not help

The Steelers won this game thanks to three turnovers, clutch long distance kicking, and Bryant's video game-like performance. Bryant's leaping grab in the end zone was spectacular and he turned a routine pass play into an 80+ yard score.

Better stated when your +3 in the turnover department, and have an 80+ yard score, it's hard to lose in the NFL!

Jones was solid in relief of Vick. Vick made Jones look like Peyton Manning in his prime.

I believe that I heard on the after game show with Batch that someone stated Jones just might of had his worse practice to date this past Friday. Did anyone else hear this?

I have no problem with harping on that. It was a boneheaded, quasi-insane decision.

But I just don't get why fans wouldn't be bullish on this team...

I don't see it as bone headed. 50/50. Landry has practiced those two point plays just as much as Ben

i can believe it. some guys just dont practice as well as they play.
hopefully that's Landry's issue.

As you may or may not have read from my posts, I agree that the 2pt attempt in THIS situation was poor. Not faulting the decision to stay with Vick, since he's the Vet, but I agree, he looked terrible, and during the game last week, I actually called out loud for Jones before Vick's big comeback.

The turnover margin is a HUGE positive to win games and the higher you are above +1 gives your team a much better chance with each plus turnover received. If we're talking coaching decisions, it was a big factor to play a conservative offense with Vick to lessen the percentage of offensive turnovers, paired with our new DC's system of QB pressure which leads to turnovers, which are both solid coaching plusses.

You want to know where you lack the ability to be unbiased in the assessment? It has to do with the coaches job to game plan, game manage, and prepare the team for that week. This week was a tremendous win, over a statistically better offensive and defensive team than ours. Not only did we win by 12 points when we were 6 point dogs at home, but we've done it with a backup center, backup then 3rd string QB, backup ILB, lost our starting LT and went to the backup, then some backups help on D when Tuitt and Jarvis couldn't play. If any of these backups weren't coached up or know the system well enough to perform, we'd be sunk. This is where Tomlin never gets credit, and it needs to be recognized. The next man up is a mantra that all the players repeat in every post-game presser, because Tomlin believes it and gets his players prepared.

Going to a backup LT with a 3rd string QB who throws right and is being protected by his blindside by that backup LT, should have been exploited by Arizona. They schemed pressure to that side, and what happened? Jones made the right reads on the blitzes to hit the right players to move the chains and score. Big one to Miller, and the release valve to Bryant was epic to hit that guy, and Bryant was just special in his ability to turn that into a TD. That is what it looks like when prepared backups are thrown into game action. Injuries happen to everyone, so our backups practice like they are going to be the next man up at any time, and it shows on the field when we lose key pieces to our team.

I'm currently giving Tomlin some slack overall due to the improvement the defense has shown, but the guy's judgment still pisses me off too frequently.

Yeah, they're 2-1 without Ben, but could just as easily be 0-3 due in large part to Tomlin.

*Putting the ball in Vick's hands in the crucial 3rd/4th and short sequence late in the Ravens game.

*Not the decision to go for the win of give the ball to Bell against the Chargers, but the slow developing run call against a defense that was no doubt selling out to stop the run. Bell barely made it, and a lesser back gets totally stuffed

*His utter refusal to bench Vick yesterday despite it being obvious Jones LITERALLY could not be any worse, as at least he knew the entire offense, Vick doesn't get hurt, and the Steelers may very well lose the game

*Also, you make it a three point game every ******* time after taking a 12-10 lead in that situation.....unless you're coached by Mike Tomlin. Only with the benefit of hindsight can one claim it didn't matter, as no one knew the offense was going to take off with Jones at QB. Tomlin obviously did not, as he would have had Jones in there much sooner if he did.

I was really pleased with how well Jones did. What I liked was that he got rid of the ball in 3 seconds on just about every snap and he read the defense quickly and hit the short available throws. I believe I would rather Ben sit again next week and heal some more and let Jones play.

I'm gonna save my Tomlin hate for another day because we are on a two game winning streak without Ben, and because the QB we've pretty much all universally hated since the moment he was drafted lifted up the entire team yesterday. I'm happy for the kid Landry, I'm glad he proved us wrong (myself included) and honestly.. the fact that he played such a huge part in delivering the W goes a long way in justifying the pick. I don't want to say yesterday alone made the pick worth it, but I mean.. it was a 4th rounder on a QB..

Landry if he plays (meaning if Ben doesn't) the question will be can he find his second read if the first is taken away. He knows the offense. His teammates say he is very knowledgeable of the offense and being around Ben has rubbed off on him. Can he take a another step in his development and be able to find his secondary reads when the defense takes away his first read. Hopefully we can get our running game on track early take some of the pressure off him and our new LT. Let Villunueva get his feet wet by pancaking Tamba Ali a couple of times. I'm hoping we are a better left handed running team with Villunueva. That will make us more versatile in the run game. Beachum was a technician this guy can be a physical mauler dancing Bear..

I can't help but wonder if that the reason, or one of the reasons, that Landry was so good is the fact that he went in cold and he had no time to think about it.

Will he be as good with a week to think about it?

And on the road? Same can be asked about his new left tackle?

I don't know this for a fact. But it's likely that he and BR knew each other from Jones' days at OU.

He and BR's sister Carlee, who played basketball at OU, were in school there at the same time.
