NFLPA ranks Steelers dead last in latest survey

The primary issue is the field and deservedly so. Art2 does replace the field twice a season, but unfortunately the SEA who owns the stadium allows Pitt and the High School playoff games so, PIT has no control.

UPMC Southside facility lease expires in 2030, so there is already assessment being performed bringing the new facility to Acrisure with new development. Not sure where but those who live in the burgh would have a better idea about its placement.

All that other stuff is a red herring, as these new stadiums the past 10 years are so much bigger and have huge footprints on site. So bigger “player family area’s” or designated family boxes is horseshit. Most of these players are compensated well enough to buy tickets.

You can bet your fans *** that the NFLPA would fail a ton of stuff to the betterment of team and fan experience.
 
Yeah, that field is a disgrace and it caused Killebrew the knee injury he suffered .
You’re right Drink, the high schools need to find other venues but they are stuck with Pitt.
Pitt should have never torn down Pitt Stadium since they really need their own venue.
Art II is certainly not Bob Nutting but he may be closer to Mike Brown the Bengals’ owner.
Yes he spends on the roster but this facilities rating is a very bad look for the organization.
Come on Art, do better!

Steelers only get 1/2 the practice facility. Pitt gets the other 1/2, it is a much nicer 1/2. That explains the toilet situation, the building is set up leagal code wise, just more toilets are located in the other 1/2 of the building. Just a plumber's explanation, it wasn't caught on the splitting of the facility.

There is a formula used to calculate #of stool / urinals / laves / water coolers / ect. Per # of occupancy).

As for the condition of the Acrisure field surface, they will have to figure out less useage. High School football can be eliminated without any concern. Their fan draw can be handled by most larger high-school stadiums.

Pitt has a lease agreement, so thay stay.

No one knows that. What field is ranked the best? Are there any knee injuries on the top ranked surface? There can be different factors in knee injuries you so cannot point to just one thing.

Apparently, the Dolphins are #1. They do nothing year in and year out. So it may not translate to wins on the field.

Maybe I'd rather have the players pissed off about something than too comfortable.

Art2 has no say about Pitt and the high school playoffs using the stadium. SEA has control of the field use since the Steelers financed the stadium through the SEA. After the season ended there was talk about changing the type of grass turf being used. Since PIT uses the field the majority of the time they are to pay for the new turf. Guys on Sirius XM had mentioned Philly’s turf (a hybrid of several types of grass) had been recommended to all northern outside NFL playing surfaces because of its resilience. I think CHI and the Pack uses the same turf). Art2 is far from a cheap owner. Sure the organization is fiscally conservative. They spend money smartly on their players but not on “flash luxury” the players. They would rather spend the $$$ for the fans experience. With the Hall of Honor exhibit being a great example as well as the other stuff. If/when they move the southside facility close to the stadium, there will be even more improvements.

Drink is on point, an arrangement decreasing games being played will only allow the turf issues to be resolved. Otherwise, some form of artificial turf will be needed….something NOBODY wants.

I like the possibility of trying out the grass used by the Eagles. That sounds like it would possible work so maybe they move in that direction.
Art is making a ton of money and would love to see him invest more in the facilities. He can do both, fan experience and facilities.
I still think within the next few years here the Steelers are going to want a new stadium. Where the hell they would build it I haven’t a clue.
 
Ike hit the nail on the head with the lease through 2030. Something will be in motion by then—isn’t that why they brought on David Morehouse?

The bathroom thing seems overblown. Are all these guys taking a dump at once? I got to 5,000-seat high school stadiums with two toilets and a few urinals. There’s never a line.

I don’t know the layout of the high-school championship games, but for some reason I think it’s four games in one day.

Eliminate that and that in itself would stop one sod replacement..

That is the primary issue the field managers have with keeping the playing surface available. I wouldn’t want their role with Acrisure based upon its usage. The lease expires in 2030 so I’m sure there is a plan already in place regarding the 5 year option PIT has with the SEA.

With the stadium updates already in process Art2 discussed several weeks ago, maybe separating or increasing the Steelers locker room will help with the “report card”. Dan Rooney (Art2 son) is starting to take on more franchise responsibility and transitioning to organization president is following exactly what Ambassador Rooney and Art2 did in 2001. The younger Dan is more progressive than his father (he handled the Ireland Game situation exclusively), so maybe he will be more like his grandfather when he takes over.

Fortunately early 2031 will be a big year for Pitt as their lease ends then. There is speculation that Pitt will REDUCE home seating on their games upon renewal with the SEA. That is if there is no alternative available. Alumni that I know have told me that there is supposed to be a huge housing expansion for Pitt in Oakland, so I have no clue about long term direction for the university’s football program.

Seems like the SEA has a tight grip on the balls of anyone who has a desire to have presence on the north side shore area. Didn’t the Pens go through a troubled time regarding PPG replacing the Igloo?
