Next year's coach?

I’d take Morgan Freeman at this point.
i'd take Morgan Fairchild, but bask in her glory of years ago... much like we're forced to do in our current state of the Steelers

I’d take the real Omar Epps at this point.

I wanted Joe Brady, but I'm going to pray every night we hire Mike McCarthy instead just so I can post about DEI every day for you...excuse me... "Good ol boy network"

The GOBN hire it will be when McCarthy produces the same results as Tomlin.

A re-tread you'll be happy with I'm sure.

If he does leave, get traded, retires, etc., who do you want?

Note - This is not a "You have no good candidates, so shut up about him leaving" thread. It's an honest question.
I don’t think trading him is an option anymore. There’s people here that said he was a “premier” coach and any team would want him. I doubt that ever was true but if he had value it was 5+ years ago.

If the job becomes available, does it lure Cowher out of retirement?

Maybe 10 years ago, but today……… I highly doubt it. He knows the grind and at this stage in his life…. He is happy where he is at.

What is the obsession with Marcus Freeman? My guy has lost to Marshall and Northern Illinois during his short tenure and features a run heavy offense.

I will say Hell no. Another old, past his days HC isn't the answer.

I want to go on record as saying that I am convinced that Tomlin was not a DEI hire. He may have been a Rooney Rule interview, but set the room on fire, by all accounts. First time I heard him speak I was captivated and excited.

He was not a DEI hire.

I'd take him just to rebuild the culture. You can damn well believe his teams would be physical and disciplined.

I don't think he'd have any interest whatsoever , but if he did, I think it would be Pittsburgh or nothing.

THAT. They wanted to go younger. The first time they heard his Tomlinisms, they were likely as captivated as the average fan was. Lots of guys get their first big chance because they ace the interview. Folks who love throwing that out there say a lot more about themselves, frankly. It's tired already.

Oh ya, he completely bamboozled them and set the hook as soon as the first tomlinizim flew out of his mouth.

But, I will go on record as saying the fact that he checked the box beside the Rooney rule was icing on the cake.

I just want this whole frustrating sad chapter in Steelers football to end.

I'm one who is saying he was a DEI hire and I pointed out the perceived benefits of hiring him. And, he wasn't an awful hire. But they could have done better.

If you recall, the coaching choices were:
  • Mike Tomlin
  • Ron Rivera
  • Ken Whisenhunt
Tomlin checked the black box, Rivera checked the hispanic box and Wiz was the white dude. Thus, the Rooney Rule specs were met. Rivera and Wiz went on to become head coaches, so its not like Tomlin was head and shoulders above the other two. Yet, at the time it was almost a given that Wiz would be ruled out due to the Rooney Rule, and despite being a part of the Cowher coaching tree, was a token interview.

FULLY agree on the heritage through Cowher. Maybe a consultant gig or frequent stops during training camp.

You forgot Russ Grimm and the Steelers absolutely made the correct call over him.

As out-dated as Morgan Fairchild is,……. She’d still be more current than our tomlinized team.

Nothing wrong with an old Hottie once in awhile……………….

He was not a DEI hire.

Not a DEI hire for sure.
Rooney Rule and DEI two different things.

And I couldn’t ever imagine DEI happening in coaching pro football profession because it’s a “must win” “must be the best “ attitude.
Funny how with DEI this “must be the best” mentality doesn’t apply in other professions that more important to humankind …aka“real jobs”.

Oops…I may have gone too far into politics…Kentucky Steeler started it!

I believe you're correct, DEI got him the interview, his ability to talk and talk and talk got him the job.
