Next year's coach?

The entire coaching staff needs to go, but Rooney doesn't have the balls to make the move. He is too worried about the money he has to pay them. He doesn't care about the product on the field. We have 2 more years of this garbage.
I've heard minority owners wanted Tomlin gone for years. I'm sure they'd gladly kick in what is needed to make it happen.

If Rooney of the Rooney Rule Ronney’s were to fire Tomlin, I have to think he would be inclined to replace him with another minority hire. Rooney replacing a black coach with a white coach would get a lot of media attention.

I keep hoping that those kind of thinking is fading quickly. The pigment of a man's skin does not represent his abilities or skill level.

Hire the next great one. Color be ignored.

Rooney rule will bring in the first female coach!

A true minority hire sure to get the press machine moving.

A give you the offensive minded Lisa Lampanelli as your next HC…obviously pressers are a huge component of the desired skillset and she’d excel just like Rooney’s guy MT.

At least make the suck entertaining

BINGO.

Regardless of what we think about DEI, the optics of firing a long-time black head coach and hiring any coach other than a black man, will be biblical in the mainstream media. As such, Marcus Freeman, Kelvin Sheppard, Antwaan Randle-El and Eric Bienemy are the front runners for the job at this point when it comes open. Of those, I'd happily take Freeman.

I would also Supe!
But being very realistic, I don’t believe that Freeman would select the Steelers

Hire Dylan Mulvaney as first female coach. The Rooneys can bask in the glow of righteousness. We won't win but that isn't important.

LOL, the idea that folks actually believe the Steelers have to hire a black coach after Tomlin is laughable. Take the damn tin foil hats off already.

An offensive minded innovative coach, that will hire a DC and allow them to run their system, I don't give a sh!t if they are white, black, yellow, green.

Mikey Sunglasses isn’t going anywhere. The Rooney are progressive Democrats who pushed for the minority coach rule. That’s why it’s called the Rooney rule. They will not risk being criticized for turning their back on a black coach and being called hypocrites/racist.

@FAB802 - see Ogre's specific take on this.

I mean, the guy has been here almost 20 years. I would think they’ve satisfied their own rule well enough that it really wouldn’t matter the color of the replacement coach.

Still, I agree he’s likely not going anywhere unless he chooses to do so.

So, you're saying 18 years isn't enough time?

Read my earlier post within this thread where I mention several perspective head coaches.
There are white and a black coach in my post.
I selected them not on race but whom I thought would and could turn this ******* mess around.
The Rooney Rule states that an NFL team must interview at least one minority candidate and I’m ok with that but it doesn’t state that team must hire one.
The Rooney’s took this thing way too far and hired a coach in 2007 primarily because of his race.
There is no way he was more qualified than Ken Whisenhunt (spelling) back then only being a DC for one year in Minnesota with the 22nd ranked defense. Prior to that he was a defensive back coach. He came in and used his silver tongue and impressed them with his speak. The Rooney’s felt like hiring Tomlin would go a long way in supporting their namesake Rooney Rule. Presented him with a team two seasons removed from a SB victory in 2005. (Please remember that 2006 was the 8-8 season, Cowhers’last season when Ben had the life threatening motorcycle accident, and the emergency appendectomy surgery).
2007 Tomlin walks into a situation with a fully loaded team with excellent coordinators and position coaches. Perfect scenario for any new head coach.
If Art by any stretch of imagination extends this con-man then after many decades as a loyal supporter of this organization I’m done once and for all. I won’t be able to get behind them any longer and will divert my attention elsewhere.
This needs to come to an end at seasons end and either attempt a trade or come to a mutual agreement to move on.
I mentioned several candidates and I’m sure there are plenty more so let the coaching search begin. Art also needs to step down now at 73 years old and let his son take over. Need young ideas and please Rooney’s, leave the ******* politics the hell out of it. We get enough politics in our every day lives and don’t need it with our football team.

It's nonsense. It's bad enough that politics is full of this ****. There is a forum in here to discuss everyone's theories on that, so let's keep that nonsense in there. The Rooney family can hire whoever the Hell they want in two years when captain standard is done. You boys carry on though, I invested a lot of money in tin foil during the last election cycle, easy money.

RED——-?

Forget the bull-**** political crap.

Hire a “FOOTBALL COACH” 1st and foremost. Blindfold the interviewers (including Rooney), make your choice.

I know the above statement is not possible but the intent is. Hire a football coach 1st and foremost. The NFL really has gone offense (gambling point) so it would be more advantageous for an Xs & Os kind of coach. A young (not to young as he needs a little seasoning) and upcoming but must have the leadership ability to delegate, supervise, represent, & teach. (Obviously more).

Not sure I’d want a “straight from college coach”, but an assistant in the NFL so as they have some experience of the commitment needed. Family man yes, firm in his beliefs, like jalapeño popper a must, and clean with a smile.

Salute the nation

The sad truth is, that he will likely be here until his contract expires. The Rooney Way is as much about that, as any "rule" they helped establish. Whoever is the hot offensive coordinator in two years, give them a look. This subject is great to dream on, but we'll be riding this out until then, bank on it.

Past behavior is the best indicator of future performance.
