Next years cap space in AFC north

Boykin will be flippin' the bird at the Steelers as he walks.....it's unfortunate he was held back only because the cost of a higher draft pick with his playing time.
You are right about flipping the bird but they could have played him 10 snaps short if they wanted to. They just never fully bought into him though I thought they should have.

My first instinct was to let Spence walk, thenI remembered how often Shazier gets hurt....

Whoever said that is unplugged how free agency works. Beachum is a starting caliber left tackle in his prime. He'll go for 8-11 million a year, possibly more.

coming off a significant injury plus not a prototypical size

not so sure that is a probable outcome...

How's the other teams looking in our division? Who's in the worst condition? Any big name FA's on their teams this year?

The Ravens are screwed. Flacco contract hits insane this year. 28 million against cap, 31 million next year. Plus still have dead money issues along with high salary aging veterans.

The only thing to do, when you're painted into a corner - is wait until the paint is dry.

I believe Bell has one year left on his contract so they will be looking to sign him No. 1 this offseason.

I asked in another thread: When do we start to question the wisdom of re-signing Bell. Due to reasons beyond his control he's going on what, 3 seasons now without fully contributing? Again, not his fault but the injury curse is strong with this one.

Spence is low mileage and should come at a decent price.

The window is open, we might not have to overpay most of the FAs. If the price comes in high, cut ties - they're all replaceable.

Definitely something to think about. But, he is still young and is nowhere near the age a high use RB would start to decline. His work ethic is second to none at the position. I think they try to sign him at a reduced rate using the injuries as "leverage". But, someone will pay him if he makes it to free agency. When healthy, he is the best RB out there right now. And, that is the other thing with the negotiations. Will he be healthy and pass a physical this off-season to sign a new contract.

Can they restructure it to make it more cap friendly, or are they really screwed?

so you offer a contract to Bell before he's fully healed.

Yes they can restructure, but, there is a history to the current contract that we need to review. Ravens wanted to extend Flacco before last year of rookie deal ran out. Per Flacco's agent's advice, they chose to play out final season with no extension. Fast foward, Flacco caught lightning in bottle with his historic playoff numbers. Won super bowl... Back up the Brinks truck. That produced current outrageous contract. A contract Ravens never planned on honoring after this up coming season. Ravens want to rewrite and extend contract with less money, hence a paycut, more in line with what Flacco is really worth. I'm sure Flacco and agent are not gonna play that game. They know Ravens won't cut him... Since there are several teams who need a quarterback and have the money to spend. Couple that with aging veterans and their high salaries no longer able to produce at those salaries. Think Monroe,Zuttah,Suggs,Dumervil,Webb,Linebacker Smith. Not looking good. I think Ravens and Flacco will eventually work it out, But it's not gonna be cheap. Plus, they still have a good bit of dead money. Yes, they are screwed.

Our cap situation isn't nearly as bad as some people believe. Troy and Woodley come off the books. New contracts to DeCastro and others would give some short term relief if structured right. Timmions is a huge a hit, but there is already talk of a re-structure that would spread his remaining money over 3 years making it more manageable. Cutting Suishium post june 1 would help too. Plus the cap is expected to go up again like last year. I haven't run any numbers but i think all that would be close to doubling our cap space and then some.

Flacco won't be cut, and it will be difficult for the team to rework it. Flacco owns all the cards here. He rolled the dice and earned the payout. Ravens thought it was a fair deal, or they wouldn't have written it.

He's signed for the next 3 years. A cut this year would be 25.8M in dead money. Post June 1st they could save $18M from the 28M cap space, but they'd be on the hook for his $10M in dead money for the next 3 seasons.

Glad they are screwed, I hate the ratbirds.

The Bungholes, however have taken my #1 spot as most hated in our division. Dirty Dirty Bungholes. Do you need TP?

Brownies are the Brownies, they keep ******* themselves. I almost feel sorry for them now. NOT!

Which tells me if they do their normal there should be enough for one mid tier free agent (corner)

and it will be interesting if they resign Mclendon or try to upgrade there.

but I am betting the Steelers bring back him and Gay and Foster.

why would they let Foster go? He isn't a spring chicken why would he be out of their price range?

I think he will look for a bigger contract, and they already have so many people to sign. It would be great to keep him if he is reasonable.

McLendon must be the most under-rated player on our team. This season when he was on the field, teams averaged something like 2.2 yards per rush against us. I hope to heck we bring him back and don't have to break in someone new at that position. Everyone's favorite McCullers did absolutely nothing this season and played one snap against the Broncos.

Foster will probably have to take less to stay in Pittsburgh. I certainly want him back, but it only takes one team with a ****** O-line (and there are like 26 teams with ****** O-lines) to over-pay and we are not going to match it when we have to take care of DeCastro and already have taken care of Pouncey and Gilbert.
