Looking for a good, Italian or just an overall good restaurant to take my wife to this Saturday. Something I can only find in Pitt. No Ruth Cris. I'm taking my wife and boys to the Game Sunday. The entire weekend is about me and the boys. My wife has one request...good dinner at a place she would like. I have one shot at this...please help.

Her fav is Ruth Cris but doesn't want to go there, she wants something authentic to Pittsburgh. She loves Italian also. The size of the Bill isn't important to her. Just don't go too crazy...I'm on a budget.:)

Olive garden. :puke:

When I come into town from Houston to visit the fam on Saturday nights prior to the game, I take them to Monterey Bay on Mount Washington. Great food, fabulous view of the city, great ambiance, and not cheap but worth it. Your wife will be impressed.
LeMont is very good too and both located on Grandview Avenue on Mount Washington. I love going back to where I grew up on Mount Washington and look forward to my game trips each year.

Screw Olive Garden. That’s where us business travels go for dinner. Really don’t want to take her there. Take my suggestions and you’ll make the little lady very happy.

If you like Italian try De Blasio's. It's about 4 miles off the Green Tree exit.
Also like Church Brew Works which is closer to downtown.

A lot of Pittburghers rave about Piccolo Forno in Lawrenceville. I wasn’t all that impressed. The lasagna has nutmeg... LOTS of nutmeg.

Oh ya if you want Italian there’s no shortages of that fine cuisine in the Burgh. De Blasio’s is very good. Won’t be disappointed. Girasole, Piccolo Forno, Cenacolo Rest. Joseph Tambellini’s. There are literally tons of good Italian Restaurants in the Burgh.

DiAnoia’s in the Strip but for Saturday call NOW for a reservation. Not real fancy, not real expensive, but it’s just that good.
Threadbare Cider House is more casual but has great brick oven pizza and a super-sized Light Brite on the wall for kids and hard cider for adults.

On the street right before you get to the Clemente bridge (Opposite side of the river from PNC) there is a great Greek restaurant. Looks a little sketch, but wife is Greek and that food was authentic. It is right next to one of those little shops that sells non licensed Steelers stuff. Use a washroom somewhere else, but the food is mint.
Christo's Mediterranean Grill

He wants to take his wife to a nice place Chico. Yes,Primanti Bros. is legendary and I go for lunch when in town, but I think he wants to take her somewhere special.

I gotta be honest. Been to Primanti Bros Twice. I will say this. Outstanding atmosphere. Every place has its local flavor. The food didn't really thrill me. Peppi's had a much better sandwich in my opinion.

Dish Osteria and Bar south side. Small so make sure you get a reservation. Food is awesome.

Trust me, this is what you're looking for. Mr. Bus and I spent several anniversary dinners there.

Oh and if you like olives get the marinated olives for an appetizer. They are SO good.

PB's is an overrated eatery. LOVE Peppi's but I think both are better lunch places.

This. Should do it once to say you’ve done it, but really not other reason.

Exactly! Strictly both are lunch places. This guy’s head is probably spinning. You ask this board a question you can damn well be sure you’ll get an answer or two or three or 100. Good stuff though since folks here know the places to go.

Whatever happened to Christopher's? Is that where Monterey Bay is now? Is Grand Concourse any good??

Grand Concourse was a little overrated I thought but I haven't been there in years so it could be better now.
It's not fancy, if anything it's authentic Yinzer steeltown mill bar, but Big Jim's is a personal favorite and has good Italian food. Guy Fieri's TV show was there, it's how I found out about it. Just east of downtown. You didn't say how old your boys are but if they are in the eating you out of house and home stage, they will love it. Portions are enormous. Good selection of craft beers. I had to eat the wedding soup with a fork.
