I just ran through the condensed version of the game on NFL Rewind. I did some basic play charting. nothing too detailed, just something to scan down. It may become interesting to see how the play calling unfolds over the season (assuming I can find the time to chart all games). Anyway, I did it in Libre Office (calc) - not sure if there is an easy way here to share. I am happy to share the file if anyone wants but need to workout a file share. I don't want to email to 50 people. Is there a way to share a file through the board? I guess I could also figure out google doc. Thoughts?

For anyone curious, a quick scan of the defensive chart and we ran 70 defensive snaps by my count. 50 were in some sort of 2 DL front. In most of those cases Watt and Dupree are on the line with 2 "Bigs" (DL) to create the front. Watt played both hand down and standing up. I did not count the LB's or DB's in the 2 man DL sets. I would guess most were nickle CB in the game and not the 3 safety formation we keep hearing (especially with Davis out). I don't recall seeing a 2DL front without either Barron, Bush, or Bince so I don't think any dime either, but like I said, I did not look for it.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to get too detailed...just get an idea how much there were in a 2DL 2OLB front over 3 DL. About 71% of snaps we were in the 2DL line if you will. I didn't run through the down and distance to correlate beyond that yet.

2DL ...I am curious the game last year what percentage they were in it....

Everyone knows pressure up the middle is the way to disrupt Brady. Why the hell would we not let our three best DL PUSH THE MIDDLE, especially Hargrave??

Doesn’t matter if we have 8 in the secondary, no pressure, Brady completes.

I didn't chart games last year so no idea. I am sure a google search might turn up how often they were in nickle. That would be a reasonable swag at a comparison.

Just scanned my notes - looks like Watt had his hand down about 21 out of those 50 fronts. I noted chick did a few times as well so nearly half the time they run the look, LOLB had his hand in the dirt like a DE. I don't know if it is called or if the player chooses his set based on offensive personnel/formation.

and they had to plug in a replacement OC last week due to an injury. I too would have thought more Hargrave. Just goes to show you how much the game changed. NT is just not emphasized as much as speed on the backend. Not that I agree with it, just stating what the tape showed.

My head just exploded. Fortunately it wasn't SCHEME!

Has any team won any playoff games running only 2 DL's?

I don't know about last year. But even if they ran 100% 2 DL last year you still have to adjust this year. Dupree was manhandled by a rookie LT. Having 2 DL against Brady last night was stupid beyond believe. The only way Brady has ever lost a single game is when the defense can pressure up the middle. You can't send Bush up the middle. He was manhandled by the OL last night every time he got around one. You need a NT for that not 2 wide gap "bigs" and an undersized LB. That's just ******* stupid.

I think I figured out a share with google drive:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1crHAOwdWYvc9GJPG5CIpwgy9QtFYQv7E/view?usp=sharing

someone let me know if that worked. If folks are interested, I can keep sharing when I find time to run tape.

If you do look at it, keep in mind this is rough stuff. Read the notes tab for some explanations. I wasn't trying to capture a complete play name or call on offense, just the down-distance and general play type, direction, and result. So, essentially 3 run plays...gut (dive, iso, etc), Off Tackle (basic power, g-scheme, stretch, etc) and sweeps. They could go left or right. I was more interested in the Run-Pass Ration and perhaps charting out some tendancies on down-distance as season evolves. Anyway, its rough stuff. I don't claim perfection, but close enough for the average fan to become cliff claven dangerous at the bar.

I'm sorry Vader. Did you not hear the coach say it WASN'T SCHEME?

I don't even understand what you're talking about.
