Munchak and Saxon gone, Danny Smith remains?

The special teams problems are because of the lack of depth at RB, LB, and DB. That’s your core special teams.

Lots of teams keep players solely for special teams. They make decisions to keep the #3 RB,#6 WR, 5th LB, 6th DB, etc based primarily on special teams ability and not on wheteher they can contribute on offense or defense.

The steelers used to do that more. Their last few guys at various positions were very good special teamers but not recently. That’s because the steelers have been thin at LB and DB so they have been keeping guys based on trying to develop them as starters rather than keeping a guy who is good at covering kicks.

I think the ST problems are more personnel related than coaching related.

Then, why do not the Steelers just f-cking eliminate the damn position then? i mean WTH. How much worse can this **** get than that goddamned fake punt?

Honestly, the ST guy should have one job. tell the players "don't block anyone, once the punt is off, run off the field, let it bounce and them down it. Only way to assure there is no penalty. On a KO, KR same thing, except the KR would have to actually catch the ball and down it right there."

0 penalties on ST.

I, seriously, doubt the ST coach made that call.

After hearing Art II's interview on The Fan today I'm convinced that he thinks a participation trophy is good enough.

I told you they think there is only minor tweaking needed. Also with the team winning there is no sense of urgency from the top down. That was obvious from the lack of coaching moves. And none of us should be shocked if they repeat that bullshit bottom barrel free agency approach again.

I mentioned the same thing in another thread. They believe that one bounce of the ball or one PI call and they are in the playoffs. They don't see anything really wrong with this team. A few more draft picks and a few less mistakes and SB here we come.

Not that special teams was not a problem, but seems to be a re-occurring theme year after year no matter who the head coach or ST coach is. They need to find the Munch of ST...

That was a well designed play. It was the head coach who decided to run it in a stupid situation. It would have been a great call on 4th and 3 but on 4th and 7 or whatever it was, it was dumb. You can't plan on a run picking up that many yards.

It was a good play and the defense was set up for it to be a success, but you're right, poor timing with the call. A couple of blocks were missed, but even if they make them, it's still a stretch to think Nix is going to pick up that many yards.
