The offensive line coached by Munchak had an outstanding season.

The running backs coached by Saxon exceed expectations, and also had a good season.

Munchak left us to be the offensive line coach in Denver, and Saxon was not given a new contract. Yet Danny Smith who oversaw a disastrous special teams unit remains?

Can someone explain what the heck is going on?

Tomlin and Saxson were supposedly very close, cleaning out Tomlins buddies with him and Porter.

Munch got a raise and is going to live near his daughter and grandchild.

Instead of everyone blaming Ben, maybe, just maybe it's the Head coach

well I guess when they say the standard is the standard, they never really say what the standard is. maybe the standard is to suck

Mike Munchak's contact expired leaving him basically a free agent. Without being offered the HC job with the Steelers, having family in Denver, now hearing the money is better and with the never ending train wreck in Pittsburgh with Mike Tomlin at the controls what would you do?
"Chewy" Smith should have been fired 2 years ago and arrested by PA State Troopers if he ever stepped foot in Pennsylvania again! If for any other reason for impersonating a pro football coach!

Nah Tom, It’s more fun to just blame Ben. Tomlin is kinda like the Pope to the Rooney’s. He’s infallible!

Hahahaha, I like that Chewy Smith comment.

As for Munch, yeah I totally understand the family aspect but one would think they at least tried to extend him enticing with more responsibilities and money but have the feeling they didn’t which is sad.I don’t believe they even made a statement like wishing him good luck and thank you for all you’ve meant to this team. I didn’t see anything. If that’s the case then that’s ******* cold on Tomlin and Art II part.

The special teams problems are because of the lack of depth at RB, LB, and DB. That’s your core special teams.

Lots of teams keep players solely for special teams. They make decisions to keep the #3 RB,#6 WR, 5th LB, 6th DB, etc based primarily on special teams ability and not on wheteher they can contribute on offense or defense.

The steelers used to do that more. Their last few guys at various positions were very good special teamers but not recently. That’s because the steelers have been thin at LB and DB so they have been keeping guys based on trying to develop them as starters rather than keeping a guy who is good at covering kicks.

I think the ST problems are more personnel related than coaching related.

FAKE PUNT Tomlin has his coaching tree right where he wants them, lol, more chestbumps!

You never know... Munchak MAY have already discussed plans for the 2019 season with Tomlin and Rooney prior to the end of the season. Maybe he was planning to leave either way -- in search of a head or assistant coaching gig elsewhere, and that's why there was no contract extension.

Yes I am still in disbelief about chewy still here. I didn't like Butler being here but with Tommy Tom's hand in the pie I can see why Tomlin didn't can Huckleberry Keith. But why the **** was chewy retained? Are they taking that, we are close we only need to tweak here and there approach? If they take that into free agency and mirror that belief, I will ******* scream.

No more need to speculate https://www.post-gazette.com/sports...cos-offensive-line-coach/stories/201901150145

“It was a family decision all the way,” he said. “This was all about family from the beginning. If my daughter lived here, I wouldn’t have taken any head coaching interviews. I’d rather be a line coach here than a head coach anywhere else, other than family.”

Playing devil's advocate, would he come back as HC is a year or two?

I doubt it. I also don't think he would be the guy I would want to build the team around a young QB, which will hopefully be Rudolph.

How does the Steelers allow Munch to leave. Where is this team heading

Well some to the senior bowl, the coaches.

The team and players will meet up in Latrobe after free agency and the draft.

:becky:

Tomlin is running out of scapegoats obviously.

Or getting new ones!!!!!!

I'm sure this would give Dumblin at least a couple of more years in charge, and possibly a contract extension, because the new excuse would be that the new positional coaches need time to implement their systems.
