Oakland completes the long pass for a first-and-goal at the Steelers' 7. There's 1:53 left on the game clock, and the Steelers have two timeouts remaining.

As soon as the guy is tackled, I'm screaming at the TV for a timeout. Tomlin doesn't hear me. He lets Oakland bleed the play clock down to 4, they snap the ball at 1:16, and run the ball up the middle. 37 seconds gone.

Surely, surely they'll use one of the timeouts now with 1:10 left, yes? Tomlin thinks not. He lets Oakland run the play clock down to 5, they snap the ball at 0:34, and throw an incompletion. 36 seconds gone.

Does anyone else think the Steelers could have used an extra minute-thirteen there at the end of the game?

This ************ is going to give me a heart attack, if I'm not careful. I love the Steelers, but I've got to start investing less emotion in them, as long as Mike Tomlin is at the controls.

Only thing you can do is invest less emotion in them.

Because the script is out there for everyone to see.

Do what I do. I expect top lose any time in game coaching and clock management are key. If we win that is a welcomed shock. Tomlin will always do the wrong thing down the stretch and if Ben is not there to bail him out we lose, rinse and repeat.

Tomlin is a failure, below the line, obviously.

We burn a time out every half, and they will kill you in a game like this. even with one his dumb *** didn't use it? Between that, and refusing to put Nix in in short yardage both for the play, or at the end to use some damn clock and not leave them time? It's rare that an adult is so incapable of learning **** after a decade. He's exhibit A, B and C.

Agree 100 % on Tomlin still making the same mistakes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

Even someone with average intelligence learns from his many mistakes, I think Tomlin is a bull ******** con man who is too stupid to learn. The evidence supports my theorem.

Doesn't matter when the defense can't stop anyone in the 4th qtr

They are beyond weak and pathetic, Tony Dungy blamed them for the loss, I agree

If the scheme dictates a LBer being on a WR, it is time to cut the cord on that scheme. If it is just a stubborn coach playing formations that don't work, time to cut the cord on that coach.

Just a shame we have to sit home and watch the playoffs before any change will be made.

When fans have a better understanding of clock management than the head coach.. that's a major issue.

You give the defense a better scheme and better coaches and they would play much much much better. Teams with less talent on defense than ours are better than our defense, wonder why? I guess their sce=hemes don;t have slow mediocre LBs like Williams and Bostic v=covering TES and WRS ad nauseum.

I'll have to adopt an approach like that. When I was going back through the game to get the exact numbers on the time left, etc., my heart actually started hurting...and I'm not even kidding.

Ben WAS there to bail Tomlin out...again. Except this time, the cretin never gave his franchise quarterback a legitimate chance to do so.

That ending took everything wrong with this team and wrapped it perfectly into one pathetic package: horrible defense, brain dead head coaching, and **** special teams. The 6 game win streak was a total fluke. I'm glad Boz fell on his *** because Tomlin did not deserve a second chance in that game. In my nearly 40 years of watching this team, I've never seen that kind of ending. Embarrassing.

They might start by trying to get off the damn field the first series of the game. I even said they would be gassed in the 4th right after Oakland went down the field and scored a TD on the opening drive. I figured the game was over right there and then.

I don't think I'm even watching next week. I haven't had thoughts like that ever. I couldn't imagine missing a game. **** it, I've got too many projects that I've been letting slip because of game day.
I just might get some **** done next week.

You might miss history being made when Tom Brady throws for 8 TDs in 3 QTRs.

I have been there many times the last few years. I get work done on Sunday and if possible I listen to the game on the radio. Watched a little of the first half, then hung some Christmas lights today while they floundered around against a 10 loss team. Won't waste my whole afternoon or evening on Tomlin's "smoke and mirror" play calling.

It’s like Tomlin was thinking Oakland might run out of time somehow. Inexplicable. Most people don’t notice or understand the nuances of clock management and I doubt this gets much media coverage if any. Tomlin has also screwed up clock management in some of the wins this year and was lucky to get away with it.

Poor clock management, inability to make adjustments, poor defensive schemes, doesn’t put his players in the best position to be successful, constantly out coached, plays down to the lesser teams, team is poorly prepared, always slow starts to the season, looks past the next opponent (see Jags playoff loss), has not developed any defensive backs, team lacks discipline.
Without Ben this guy would have a losing record.

So someone here, please tell me what he does well aside from being a cheerleader?

Bradshaw nailed him as a cheerleader last year. Bradshaw does not watch Steeler games as he is on the NFC network and hears from people all around the NFL on the Steelers. It is no secret that Tomlin is dumb as a brick and is poor at X and Os, in game coaching and in game adjustments. So Terry asked what does Tomlin do? he got nailed by the yinzers but he was right.

Agree to an extent. Because you also don’t expect your starting middle linebacker wait five seconds before deciding to follow a second string tight ends who’s crossed his face with zero desire to block him. Williams effort/execution on the second raiders td was garbage.

The play-by-play guy (whoever he was) is a good example, as he was kind of chastising the Raiders for letting the time run down.

Maybe he and Tomlin went to different schools together. Problem is, it's Tomlin's JOB to understand how to manage the clock.

The Raiders had no reason whatsoever to stop the clock. They had a known situation wherein they had a set amount of time and downs. They weren't going to get a 5th down, so score or not, it's in their best interest to take as much time off the clock as they possibly can.

I know YOU all know that, but how a broadcaster can be confused about it is beyond me.

Exactly wig, in fact the Raiders scored too quick as evidenced by the Steelers getting a FG attempt from chip shot distance.

I couldn't believe what they were talking about. If anything I was wondering why they were snapping the ball with so much time left on the play clock. I figured Tomlin was listening to the broadcast. Because that was horrible time management.
