Mike Tomlin Press Conference 12pm Today

Yea as much as I wan't fault Tomlin for the culture that has made guys like AB, this whole AB fiasco is on AB.

AB is who he is because Tomlin and Rooney have ALLOWED him to become who he is. The "minor annoyances" and distractions that have been permitted and rewarded are why we are sitting here today. I don't blame a child for being a brat, I blame the parents for allowing that to develop and encourage it.

Tomlin isn't a perfect coach, but overall I thought he did a good job with that press conference. There is only so much you can say in the nature of this business, especially with respect to people's jobs, but he certainly alluded to changes that will be made.

Cutting this of all press conferences short was a chicken **** way of handling it. This breakdown was not addressed. Only AB double talk. I can't wait until the rest of the story comes out. Cool Shades wasn't so cool today.

Sounds like Tomlin knows he has to change his discipline method and the culture. I’m guessing this is what he’s been told needs to happen immediately.

How does a coach that has never been a disciplinarian think that he is going to just flip that switch when that is not who he is? It comes across as disingenuous and fake. Tomlin is who he is, trying to make him be something that he is not will never work. If you want a disciplinarian style of coach and regime then bring in the people that are that way, not someone who now has to try and be something he is not.

The press conference was about AB acting like a clown, about a single player after a disappointing season. That is all you need to know.

The only other players asked about were the inside linebackers and for some reason Aditi asked if they would negotiate with Bell.

The outline for communication with Brown was clearly stated. It is as such:

Brown said his knee hurt and didn't practice Wed, Thu.
Tomlin told him to have it MRIed on Fri
AB did not get his knee reviewed by MRI
AB skipped Saturday's walkthrough and did not contact the coach.
Tomlin decided AB would sit due to lack of communication (or being honest about his condition)
Rosenhaus called on Sunday saying AB can play
Tomlin told Rosenhaus that AB will not be playing
AB came to the game, and had a pre game discussion with Tomlin.
AB was at the game during warmups
AB left sometime during the game.

Those are the facts, and it sounds to me like AB is not being honest.
I agree.
I think those of us who criticize Tomlin lose credibility when he is criticized unfairly. I think short of divulging his conversation pre game with Brown, which no one is going to do he couldn't have been more open about what happened. Honest? I dont know and probably never will. I will take him at face value about what transpired. The Ben part? I dont know.

And you failed to mention or should I say Tomlin failed to mention the reported blowup at practice where it was said that AB threw a football at Ben's feet because Ben had asked him to re-run a hot read route

I know what you listed Cope is what Tomlin said, hell I heard the same thing but I'm not buying it. That dog don't hunt. That to me sounds like a pre-fabricated list of details that Tomlin discussed with the Steelers PR folks. He's not going to say what really happened in practice.

I agree. I don’t think ownership can expect him to just change who he is. Doesn’t seem realistic.

So two things.

He skipped a walkthru
He didn't go get his MRI.

Sounds like a suspension is in order.

I would give him two games off without pay and fine him.

nothing will happen. AB will be suspended for the first two preseason games of next season.

I tend to agree with you but AB is not a child. He is a man. And we are not privy to the communication when he transgressed. The big problem was when AB was up for contract and it was a big one. He was a media darling and all anyone talked about was his work ethic. So if they would have sought a trade because he was not a team guy behind the scenes would you have supported that. Bit of a rock and a hard place.

It was detailed so they wouldn't get in trouble with the NFL for faking an injury report.

He was directly asked the question. He acknowledged the disagreement but denied that he thought it led to the absence. **** happens in locker rooms ALL THE TIME. Full on fist fights

These types of issues deflect from our ability to focus on what matters most....our on the field performance.

And who is the architect of the seemingly endless, all-too-predictable crapfest games against garbage teams? Did the Steelers culture allow losses to astoundingly bad teams time after time after time after time between 1972 and 2006?? If not, what changed? Did the Steelers culture generate these stupid drama-queen moments before 2007? If not, what changed? Did the Steelers culture result in a repeated lack of preparation, and discipline, and stupid penalties, and a tissue-soft defense that is incapable of turnovers before 2007? If not, what changed?

The Steelers, like most teams, reflect their head coach - unprepared, undisciplined, arrogant, and obstinate. And until the team fires Tomlin, it will remain that way, but be vastly worse when Tomlin successfully drives Ben to the broadcast booth.

Time for a change. Steeler fans cannot simply shake their heads and say, "Oh, they won't fire Tomlin." Become vocal. Demand accountability. Demand his *** be fired.

People do whatever they get a reward for doing...6 years old, 18 years old, 40 years old, 70 years old. Age has nothing to do with it. You do the things your get a reward for doing and you don;t do things that you get no reward from. I never said they should have traded him before now, but you sure as **** don't go out to the media and the world and call his antics a "minor annoyance" and basically let him know that you have no issues with his behavior. I don't need to be privy to their communications, all I need to do is see the results to know that whatever was communicated was ineffective and obviously did not punish or deter future transgressions.

Exactly! Skips walk thru, skips MRI and to me that points directly to him being pissed about something and no injury and I think it goes back to the reported altercation with Ben at practice. He was pissed and felt disrespected and felt Ben called him out in practice so he does what AB does, pout, miss practice, walk thru, and expects to play. Hell, he had a perfect example from last year when ******* LevBell missed walk thru prior to Jax playoff game and still played. Come on guys, don't buy into this crap. Hell, Jesse James just about told you the issues as well as James Harrison.

Tomlin: "Distractions and things of that nature are part of the job in today's NFL. I don't run away from it. I embrace it. I don't use it as an excuse.... Is it a challenge? Certainly. Am I appropriately compensated for dealing with those challenges? Certainly."

Tomlin said the skipped walkthru is "very significant." But overall characterizes things as (paraphrasing): It was a busy week with a lot going on, so I didn't have time to sink my teeth into what was going on with AB.

"More than anything, there was a lack of communication." But Tomlin takes partial blame because there were a ton of moving parts in the prep for Sunday's game that siphoned his focus.

Tomlin: "Yes, changes will be a part (of the offseason into 2019 season)... We are not gonna be resistant to change."

Not sure what some of you are expecting to hear at a coach's press conference. Here's a clue....you're going to hear Coachspeak. You aren't ever going to hear a coach grovel at the feet of the media pleading for forgiveness for screwing something up, which is what people seem to be expecting. Not ever going to happen on any team, anywhere. They also will not throw a player under the bus publicly even though everyone knows they screwed something up. They'll say it in a way that makes you read between the lines for yourself. It's the nature of being a coach.

I can't imagine how you guys would react if Bellicheck was the coach and you got "yes" or "no" as the answer to every question, It would be a message board apocalypse every press conference.

7-2-1 to out of the playoffs

Not much to say about the most epic collapse in Steelers history

Will be interesting the punishment. If no time off my attention goes from AB right back to the Coach. As of now this is on AB.

I doubt AB ever puts on a Steelers uniform again. No way you can have a player back on your team that blatantly quit on his team and the coach goes far as to pretty much say he quit on his teammates.

King of cliches so I would expect a cliche interview.............................................................

Salute the nation

This needs to be handled with Tomlins Diplomacy. THIS CALLS FOR ALL THE ******* CLICHES...Brown is immature but extremely valuable. Cliches to the public and dealt with internally...

You know.....Like maybe TEAM first....No "I' in team.....WE HAVE TO WIN THIS LAST GAME SO ALL HANDS ON DECK..

Hell yeah cliches....

I saw a man who is tired of this ****....

A suspension i think most players will be ok with provided he doesn't do the **** again..

With prior players missing a walkthru and weren't traded, I think the outcome will be more to what I am thinking.
