Mike Silver, Dianna Russini, Rodgers prefers VIKINGS

These players certainly talk to each other. Whatever word has gotten out, isn't good.
No to defend as I am not overly happy with them , but I did read the deal was the FB got more guaranteed money and opted for the team return.

Should be sending a loud and clear message to both the Steelers and Giants. He’s waiting on the Vikings! Hello, McFly! Geez both these franchises should take the hint, the drama queen don’t want you, he wants the Vikings or he would have already signed with either of the other.
You have in Minnesota a HC in Kevin O’Connell who turned Darnold around and is an excellent offensive mind. The Vikes have a damn good team on both sides of the ball and got better in FA.
What’s not to like there vs the two offensive juggernauts in Pittsburgh and NY.
It's cold as all heck, but all the playing is done indoors.

You know slash,I think most of us are proud fans of this organization. This waiting around ,pretty well begging type of BS is sucking the pride right out of me. It’s starting to piss me off. They got caught putting all their eggs in one basket last season without any contingency plans and are doing the same again. You can pretty well see how the national media is shaking their heads and laughing at us at the same time. It’s a ******* embarrassment.
I don’t even blame Rodgers. He’s a FA….he can sign whenever he wants. What happens if he signs? We were what…3rd best choice? Yea. That’s the type of player I want. At best he would be with us 2 years, most likely one year.
If the Steelers really wanted Fields, why didn’t they go all in right after the season was over. All of us looked up the upcoming FA QB’s in 2025. ****,I looked it up right after they signed Fields and Russ, knowing that they were on a one year contract. We all knew the selection wasn’t great. So they had to act quickly and decisively. I blame Ownership,FO,HC.
Now of course if they went all in and no one wanted to play here, what does that say about our team?

I’ve got nothing against Metcalf. But the fact that we signed a 28 year old WR for 150 million dollars without having a signed QB that is our future is mind boggling to me. To me this is the type of thing you do when you believe you are a player of two away from making a serious run. Which we aren’t. And if they had to go this route, sign a player for that type of money in FA,rather than trading and giving up a second. That second is huge for us. The coming days should be interesting.
I’ve said it before. This franchise is broken and badly.
To trade your premium 2nd round pick for a WR before you have a QB locked down is nuts.
It sometime seems like we have three different people doing three different things over there.
The owner Art II saying after the season he preferred Wilson or Justin and appeared to be favoring Wilson.
The HC who already seems to be out on Wilson and not sure he was ever in on Justin wanting Rodgers.
The GM most likely caught somewhere in the middle trying to appease both of them.
It’s all wrong and misguided and like their offense, seems like there is zero plan and scheme.
The three do not seem on the same page.

This team has completely botched the FA season so far.

Vikings not be convinced JJ McCarthy is healed?

That I'd figure as well. Plus moving your whole family, changing schools and such is a pain. If PA had no state tax then that would be an extra bonus, but California also taxes their people to death.

Well….that and the fact that I don’t think he’s played one down in the NFL. Quite the risk they are taking. But do they really want him to sit for a couple more years if they sign Rodgers? These types of decisions are what usually gets the GM hired or fired.

**** Rodgers
I have to say so far this free agency Omar doesn’t get passing grades.

Failed to upgrade the run D
Failed to upgrade the QB position.

Now they have one less pick in the draft on top of that.

Might be a good time to draft down in 1 or up in 3…

To be fair “upgrading” the QB position in this free agency crop would’ve been a tall task.

Can’t make free agents better than they are

Could’ve brought back Fields-sure
Could still bring back OldeRuss- another year older and definitely not an upgrade

Did ya really want Darnold? May be a slight upgrade but imagine the ghosts he’d see behind this OL

Danny Jones-meh, not an upgrade, maybe a stop gap

He did bring back Rudy on a cheap deal who has a better starting record with Steelers than Russ

That brings us to Mr. Rodgers-did I mention **** Rodgers 🤣

Surely you weren’t pining for the likes of Crab Legs, Brissett, Mariota, Huntley or Unibrow

The one mistake I think he made there was not bringing back Fields (a guy who wanted assurances to the QB1 role and a guy Tomlin already screwed). Had Tomlin not mismanaged the QB room again that may have been a possibility.

I would have liked to give Darnold a try. Thought he did well overall and I think his future is bright. I do agree overall the options were highly underwhelming. Darnold for me was easily the top available.

My concern is they didn’t even blink in his direction. Told me their QB likes are questionable at best.

They still could trade for a QB but yeah not thrilled.

Also they have no excuses on the Dline their biggest fail to date….

Just give Rodgers an FU and move on already. Sign Wilson. Sign anyone to compete with Rudolph at this point. I am reading some say bring in Flacco. Heck, at this point, they don't have many options. Just do something and take your lumps knowing you royally f'ed up.

I think the top 2 available options were Darnold and Rudy, with Danny Jones in 3rd only because I don’t think JF was willing to return. Had he been willing he and Darnold would’ve been my 1A and 1B.

Seeing what Darnold got I’m more than happy with Rudy as the bridge and start mining the draft. Something that has been a need for awhile now.

They can’t let Colbert chucking a KFP grenade on his way out the door make them gun shy. Also gotta figure the new GM wants to get a crack at drafting a QB or two sooner rather than later.

Question for ya Slash, seeing what Darnold got paid would you have inked that deal for him (likely at at slightly higher number to factor in the Tomlin system overpay required) and bet the next few years on him?

Agree we need DL help but with the depth of DL in this draft I feel Weidl who loves drafting trench players has a plan for a double dip. The good DL players in free agency were a lot of “Robin” guys that played next to “Batman” and got paid. We’ll see how good Milton Williams and Wharton pan out and if they were worth the coin. I think Williams will look like an overpay but Wharton may shine as he will be “Robin” again playing next to Brown.

Not sure what Darnold would have cost. With the Steelers having a better WR duo maybe it would have been an even cost? Keeping in mind they signed him before Kupp came aboard. Hard to tell as the FOS hands were in their pockets in regards to SD. But the Steelers are just as stable as the Seahawks not that the Steelers will achieve anything with Tomlin.

I guess my ultimate play would be Tomlin exit and the Steelers trade up next year. Just not sure his exit is a realistic want, with this owner in tow..

Steelers still have Batman at DL with Hayward. They could have snagged a free agent and still drafted one in 1 or 3/4.

But to answer your question sure I would have offered him a slightly higher contract.

We shall see how the Hawks do with him this year to see if my suspicions are correct in his value…

They did inquire on Darnold, but probably were nowhere close to the Seahawks offer

They need a starting defensive end and a run stuffer in the middle. Other than qb those are probably their two biggest needs.

Definitely. Which is why it would make sense for them to double dip. Perhaps at 1 and 4 or 3 and 5….

Yes, and he is a huge fan favorite in San Francisco. I doubt he wanted to leave the team and really doesn't reflect poorly at all on the Steelers.

I would get why Rodgers would want to play in Minnesota, no clue why they would want him after drafting McCarthy in the first last year. I'd assume Rodgers is using them for leverage.

Yet, many claim that Khan has already established himself as this great GM.

Based on what, exactly?

He **** the bed with the WR position last year and the QB position this year. His three first round picks to this point are either coming off disappointing seasons or have yet to show much due to injury.

I really wanted the Steelers to go outside the organization to head up the front office. Khan is too accustomed to the Steelers way of doing things, which seems to have become stale and out of place in today's NFL.

I'm not sure bringing Weidel in an assistant capacity from the Eagles was enough of a change, as it is ultimately Khan and Tomlin making the personnel decisions.

The whole GM search a few years ago kind of seemed like a farce, as it felt like Khan had been promised to be Colbert's successor some years earlier.

Everyone knows the dynamics of things in Pittsburgh. The coach wants a player, the GM tries to get that player. Khan is way more aggressive in trying to get those players, and isn't afraid to make trades.

He's also gotten a lot of value from the trades he's made. Acting like Khan is just status quo isn't paying attention. He's the opposite of Colbert, but both were/are stuck with Tomlin.

He's also only had two drafts so far

Yeppers, it’s not like Tomlin’s job is on the line or anything…………………

Salute the nation

My hot take is the Steelers shouldn't do anything else of significance at the qb position this offseason. Also let Russ walk to get a comp pick.
