Mike Munchak Heads to Denver

...Uprooted his family to move across the country to get away from this **** show. Congratulations Art II...

A couple of things: No question that his leaving is a loss for the Steelers. But to say he "uprooted" his family is a stretch. He and his wife (Marci) are empty-nesters. Did she actually move to Pittsburgh when Munch was hired, who knows? I guess.

Also, we don't know that he took the job "to get away from this shot show." We aren't privy to any of that.

What I do know is that he'll be 60, and he's spent nearly 40 years in college and pro football. It's likely he has retirement in the back of his mind. Makes a lot more sense that he would retire in Denver than Pittsburgh, especially with close family there.

Everything I need to know about the Steelers right now. Far and away best coach on the staff. Uprooted his family to move across the country to get away from this **** show. Congratulations Art II. You and your Rooney Rule Coach have completely ****** this team up. How long do we have to put up with this bullshit. Never thought I'd hear myself say this but I hope they sell the team.

Or to be with his daughter and grandchild.

Munchak might also know Vic Fangio who was just hired by Denver as HC. Fangio is from Dunmore PA, which borders Scranton where Munch played high school. Fangio is only a couple years older than Munch so they may have actually played against each other.

Would be funny if they hired ex bengals OC Bill Lazor. He’s went to Munchak’s high school.

The Steelers lose offensive line coach Mike Munchak to the Denver Broncos today. Munchak will assume the same position for Denver in a lateral move that makes little sense to Steelers fans.

Seriously who is writing this? Steeler fans and non-Steeler fans know exactly why he left. It makes perfect sense. He wanted to be close to his family, he got a raise and if the HC job comes open in the near future he's a shoe in. What's so hard to understand about this?

I think Art Rooney II needs to get as far away from this team as possible. He’s a complete and utter failure as an owner. Sell the team to anyone!

Sarrett was the defacto OL coach in 2013 for the last half of the season and turned things around. He will be a great OL Coach. Losing Munch sucks, but this is far from the end of the world. The Steelers fixed the OL by drafting studs and paying them big money. They employeed Sean Mahan and Todd Fordham before Munchak. Hence why they sucked so bad.

Holy ****, forgot about those guys. And Stapleton, Hartwig, Kemoeautu etc., what a vortex of suck. Really makes it hard to believe we actually won a SB w/ those guys.

Good info. So much we as fans don't typically know and it's so easy to knee-jerk everything. It sucks, but perhaps this is where he really wanted to be because of his daughter?

Fangio is actually 2 years older than Munch so i corrected my post above.

Good luck to Mike Munchak, a classy and tough guy who quietly built one of the best offensive lines in football. Family does come first so I understand the move PLUS he is going to an organization that wants to get better.

The Steelers are an embarrassment. Never in the Noll or Cowher era has such a "circus atmosphere" taken center stage as it has now. Sure there were less talented teams etc, but the head coach seemed to have control.

Coach Tomlin, despite his record, appears to have a team with prima donna malcontents defining its image. He has lost control (if he ever had it) and now the Steeler ship is drifting hopelessly at sea.

Sad!

WTF. A lateral move by Munchak? We just lost our best coach, and this move highly suggests Munchak has had it with Tomlin ineptness. Being from the state of Pensylvania, all things being equal, he would have stayed.

Good luck Mike, and thanks for being an excellent coach.

Art Rooney II must be sleepwalking though his life.

what is telling is there was no mentioning of Munch leaving, no thank you, no good luck. Only that they promoted his assistant. Kind of a dick move by the organization whom they had such high regard for and were going to do everything they could to retain. A lateral move is a slap in the face when he interviewed for the HC and took the same position there. Maybe family is part of it, but I'm not buying that is the whole story.

I guess Ben going into his office and begging him to stay wasn't even enough, the Steelers Factory of Sadness is rolling into high gear

****, the guys on the fan in Pittsburgh are trying to put blame on Ben for this too. If I'm Ben I walk into the 93.7 fan office to the GM and tell them to take his show and shove it up their *****.

Obviously you aren’t old enough to remember when a coach was being sued by his own future HOF player because of a comment made during litigation about another team’s player. Or that player being unaware that other players on the team were testifying. Add to the fact that another HOF player was holding out at the same time for a new contract and that all of “circus” atmosphere happened during training camp....Yep. Never happened before..

I was relieved to read that. Said the right things about Pittsburgh too. I find it harder and harder to believe any of the presumed drama that is supposed to happen with the Steelers.

Mike Munchak is a class guy AND also a HOF lineman who present linemen respect. I sure hope he is right about the future of the O Line.

He will really be missed.

Great addition to the Denver Broncos and a loss to the Steelers.
